Nice weather

There were issues; TV cable box needed replacing, two toilets needed to be fixed and water would constantly turn off. The owner delt with these relatively quickly. Dishwasher wouldn't work and he told me things to try and didn't replace for a month.He has interesting things but everything is very dated. Livingroom furniture should be replaced.The building is lovely and the people we met were great. The building did lots of fun get togethers. Location easy to get anywhere. We had a good time but spent as little time as possible in unit.

Any issues were tenant related, due to lack of knowledge misuse. We have a brand new Smart TV with Sound bar, 3 remotes. Tenant was asking for instructions on how to use remote for TV before check-in when she was across the country. That was a red flag warning. TV and cable box working fine for 2 tenants for a year prior to her check-in. Day 2 she contacted me not knowing how to use remotes, I had cable company come out to show her how to use remote on a mart TV. they hid the extra 2 remotes from her . Water issue was caused by tenant also she broke kitchen faucet causing it to run continuously and shut off water for safety. This was identified after her checkout. Dishwasher was not very old, worked fine for her 1st month of stay. Again user caused problem, jarred door causing it not to close and function, we had to schedule a replacement. The only thing dated in the condo unit was Grandma and Grandpa tenant. Its nicely furnished unit much more current and updated than a realtor furnished condo.

BEWARE OF HOST!!!!

This host knows that he can charge up to $1000. on damages and if you look at his reviews you will see he will do this. The condo was dirty when we arrived, garbage disposal did not work and patio door wouldn’t lock. You have to make your own keys to get in and he expects you to return them then accuses you they are not the right ones. He said that we damaged the “plate “ at the bottom of the patio door and had to replace the whole door. Then said the vent on the dryer was secured by a rubber band. He had someone move into the condo 3 hours after we left. Furniture is old and uncomfortable. Towels had to be washed before you could use them. The area is nice but the host cannot be trusted. Please read all reviews!!! Think twice before renting this.

Yes, we have a damage deposit of $1000 and the condo complex holds $1000 from landlords at all time to protect against damage to the common areas, pool, elevators, parking garage, as they have had instances of damage. Review prior tenants reviews to see the satisfaction from prior tenants. This tenant caused damage and was a problematic complainer. Reserved for 2 tenants, then told me she had 4 people review the condo upon arrival. They took all the keys for the unit 4, when they left and never returned them. Had to change lock for future tenant security. Patio is on the top Penthouse floor, look at pictures. Unless your a pigeon you can not get to the Penthouse floor patio, (look at pictures) from the outside and we has a security bar inside for the patio to lock, brace it closed mainly during hurricanes. Beware of problem tenants like this, rental owners! Caused damage to the unit during the stay. How would you know when someone checked in after your stay, unless you did not really leave the property?

Alta Mar - lovely; Condo - not so much

The Alta Mar experience is heavenly, from the property itself, its location, to the staff and residents. We were welcomed by all. You'll notice that this review is a year late. That is because we tried to resolve a rental deposit with the owner, for March 2023, privately. Dan will communicate with you when he's interested in getting information. He has not returned our calls or emails about the above-mentioned issue. Yes, although we had problems, we did intend to rent again, because the resort itself is so wonderful. The condo is filled with the owner's items. The sofa is not as pictured - it is an old thing which we never even sat on. There is extra furniture on the balcony and in the bedrooms. The beds, though, were very clean and comfortable. The condo was not clean. My husband re-cleaned the balcony windows because they were badly streaked. There was mold under the bathmat in the main bathroom. There was hair in the tub in the 2nd bath and in the vanity drawers. The carpets had not been cleaned between tenants and were filthy. The vacuum cleaner bag was so full that I'm amazed it did not burst. There were no basic supplies in the property: no toilet paper, paper towels, or cleaning supplies. We've been visiting Florida for 17 years. This is the first time we did not have "starter items" of basic supplies. Other than the carpets, we took care of these issues. We took care of the property as if it were our own. If you're not concerned about cleanliness, or if you'd like to clean the condo yourself as we did, feel free to rent.

Well, it interesting how people who don't get their way can be so vindictive. The review is over a year late, because it has nothing to do with your stay. After your stay you reported how wonderful everything was an that your wanted to come back the next year. You booked a reservation to comeback and stay again the next year. None of your inaccurate complaints were reported other than the vacuum bag being full. I advised you where to find a new bag in the laundry closet. I guess your idea of no communication is continuing to ask the same question you already received an answer to 10 more times, the answers not going to change. I communicate with all my tenants and have been renting properties for 30 plus year without issues or reviews like this one. Let's be honest, you backed out on your reservation a year later that you booked after your wonderful stay, and blocked anyone else from booking the property. This negative review has nothing to do with your stay at the property. It has everything to do with your reservation to come back the next year and then you backed out of last min, after having it blocked for a year from everyone else. The person who then booked the time you backed out of asked me several times if I was interested in selling the property, which is an indication of what they thought of the property. Just like everything else on the Internet you cannot believe what you read. Some people are just vindictive and will post inaccurate things. The condo was thoroughly cleaned and is always cleaned thoroughly between stays. New Smart TV's have been installed in both bedrooms and the living room. Sofa has been replaced, ironically a realtor purchased the old sofa from me and put in her rental property in the building. Yes, the owner does own everything in the condo.

Mixed Experience

My husband and I stayed in this unit Feb 1 to March 16, 2020. We were booked until March 31, but had to return to Canada due to the pandemic. Our experience was mixed; and after much deliberation, we felt it was important to share our experience with prospective renters. Alta Mar complex is clean and well maintained with great facilities. The residents (both full and part-time) are very friendly, welcoming and inclusive. The unit itself is well laid out with plenty of room for two couples. The complex is within easy walking distance to downtown Fort Myers and has a free tourist trolley stop right in front of the complex. Unfortunately, the unit had not been cleaned prior to our arrival except for the bedding and towels. We notified the owner immediately as we did not want him to be paying for a service he did not receive. Instead, he failed to believe us. We sent him various pictures as examples. Again he chose to believe the cleaners. I spent several days cleaning the unit. We did not bother to inform the owner that the patio screen was ripped top to bottom and one side of the toaster did not function. When we were forced to leave early to return to Canada, the owner was not willing to refund any portion of the payment we were losing even though the condo was available for rent on VRBO a couple of days later. As we had to self-isolate when we returned home, we were not able to mail the key for two weeks. The owner received the key on April 6. However, he did not mail the damage deposit to us until April 25th, and only after several eMails from us. This caused a lot of anxiety.

While it is unfortunate your vacation was cut short by the worldwide pandemic, it’s not justified pin the blame of your anxiety on the unit and property owner. This particular tenant was quite upset, agitated, and disgruntled about the pandemic occurring during her vacation, the potential border closing to Canada, self-isolate when she returned home, and possibly being stuck in the US. Her anxiety surfaced immediately during the start of the pandemic, and was directed at the property and me immediately, as she was contacting me about the refund of her deposit before she had even left the property. She had also contacted me about potentially extending her stay at the property if she could not find last minute travel arrangement back to Canada, or if the border to Canada closed. I was gracious enough to offer her the option to continue to stay at the property in the event of that situation. Her concerns for issues at the property were apparently not great enough to prevent her from staying longer. She also seems to have no appreciation for that offer of additional accommodations or assistance with that situation. Our unit was and is cleaned extensively. As often as possible I personally clean, inspect and do routine maintenance. Unfortunately a vacation home is never going to feel and be as comfortable as your own home that you have personally cleaned. Recently I had stayed for over a week cleaning, doing maintenance and preparing the property for a tenant. That tenant felt the need to tell me they changed the furnas filter for me. Ironically I had just changed it the week before. In her agitated and anxiety ridden state I think she is exaggerating and not clearly remembering the events, as you never mentioned an issue with the toaster until this review. That is an easily remedied problem we can address and fix.

Condo was very well furnishef with everything we needed including beach chairs and beach towels. This is a very nice condo and the location is great. The residents in the building were very friendly. We saw dolphins in the river every day. View from the balcony was awesome morning, noon and especially sunset.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO VACATION!

I spent eleven days in this condo and it was incredible. I highly recommend it for those looking for a luxurious vacation. The condo was clean, have extremely beautiful view and the pool is amazing, furthermore the condo is well equipment. Great place to spend and amazing luxurious and fun vacation. And not least the bed was very-very comfortable. :-) (It is unusual for an European girl.)

Relaxing and private Getaway

Our stay turned out great with beautiful weather. The condo met all of our needs with a kitchen, 2 bed rooms, 3 bathrooms and a laundry. Having our breakfast out on the balcony was always a treat. The pool/hot tub is never crowed and we enjoyed using the grill outside. If your interested the gym is also very nice with a great amount of equipment. Just down the road is a ton of different food options and a few shops. The drive to the beach is just around 20-30 minutes which is perfect for the days you want to spend on the beach.

Property had prior furniture wear issues; Owner arbitrarily deducted from Deposit.

My wife and I were the last renters. We are retirees in our early 70s who used this condo for 2 months while we researched and purchased a new retirement home in the Ft Myers area to be near our grand-children. We were very committed to careful handling of the Owner's furnishings. We took pictures on Day 1 especially of wear spots on furniture and walls; but kept them for our files only. Wish now we had complained early; but we felt we could roll with living conditions since we expected to buy a new home within 60 days. OWNER charged us with "some wear" on a sofa during our 2 month stay and withheld 40% of our Deposit. OWNER stopped all communications ..... text messaging and phone calls. Through our many follow-up text messages and phone calls, we sent photo evidence of the prior wear ...... with no acknowledgement or response. Our Advice: Use caution; take pictures and secure early direct acknowledgement from this Absentee OWNER ....who relies on 3rd party inspections only from a local firm when assessing damage and monies that are arbitrarily withheld from the Deposit.

I have been a landlord for 28 years. Unfortunately some tenants cause damage, some unintentional or intentional; I have experience both over the years. That is what a security/damage deposit is intended for. 95% of the time we have NO problems with our tenants and return 100% of deposits! The condo building requires me to put up a $1000 deposit to guard against damage to the building, doors, pool, parking garage, hallways, furnishings, or anything else tenant might damage in the common areas, because they have had these problems in the past. Then we have the potential damage to the unit itself or the furnishing. I personally inspected the unit before and after this tenants stay, as well as sent him pictures of the damage. Upon the completion of his stay he sent me this txt message “YOUR CONDO WAS A VERY CONVENIENT SET UP WHILE WE PERFORMED OUR HOUSE HUNTING EXERCISE” “BEST REGUARDS” NO complaints or mention of any problems. His unhappiness only started when we informed him we need to complete a cleaning and inspection prior to returning his deposit, after he vacated. He obviously did not count on me scheduling a unplanned vacation to clean and inspect the property! We have had that occur before, where damage was not discovered until a few months later. He then started contacting me daily via txt, email, and phone about the deposit refund, literally daily for weeks. Can you say guilty conscious? I believe he was hoping to force a refund before the issues were discovered. And once I traveled to the property, 1000 miles and cleaned and inspected we told him about the damage/excessive wear on the sofa, “water damage spot on arm like where you would sit a drink and leather peeling off the sofa fabric in 5 or 6 places after his stay” not normal wear for a newer sofa. The amount retained for the damage to the sofa was minimal and a fraction of the cost of the sofa, or a replacement. It’s kind of ironic that I just received a settlement of my son’s college apartment today, in which the landlord of my sons college apartment held $1689.65 of his deposit for cleaning kitchen, steam cleaning carpets, cleaning bathroom, patching walls, and replacing blinds. I believe I was quite fair only charging 40% of my tenants deposit instead of 100% to cover a portion of the cost of a new sofa. We sent the tenant a settlement statement with pictures of the damage and a refund of partial deposit 60%.
