About this property

5 Min to Rainier's Nisqually Entrance – 9 Private Acres + Hot Tub

YOUR PRIVATE FOREST RETREAT AT MT. RAINIER

Set on nine private, forested acres near Mt. Rainier`s Nisqually Entrance, MossHenge combines the peace and privacy of a secluded mountain getaway with the comforts of a thoughtfully equipped home. Spend the day hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, skiing, or exploring the park, then come home to a huge private hot tub beneath the trees, a cozy wood stove, heated floors, and evenings around the fire table.

MossHenge sleeps up to 7 and is equally well suited to couples, families, and small groups. And because a vacation should feel like a vacation, we provide thoughtful extras throughout the cabin—from an unusually well-equipped kitchen and serious coffee bar to premium bath products, a welcome basket, family amenities, and a hassle-free departure with no cleaning chores required.

NINE PRIVATE ACRES + OUTDOOR LIVING

MossHenge`s outdoor spaces are one of the things that make it special. Relax to the sounds of the forest and nearby stream from the spacious upper deck, with outdoor dining, Adirondack chairs, café lights, a gas fire table, outdoor heat, and an umbrella for sunny or rainy days.

Down on the lower deck, the large private hot tub is waiting for tired muscles after a day on the trails—or a quiet soak beneath the stars. With nine wooded acres surrounding you, MossHenge offers a level of privacy that`s increasingly hard to find near Mt. Rainier.

A REAL KITCHEN + A SERIOUS COFFEE BAR

If you enjoy cooking when you travel, you`ll feel at home here. The kitchen is stocked for actual meals, with a gas range and oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, blender, food processor, Instant Pot, bread maker, griddles, electric kettle, spices, cookware, utensils, serving dishes, and much more. There`s also a gas grill on the front patio for year-round cookouts, plus additional refrigerator space downstairs and in the detached garage.

And because this is the Pacific Northwest, we take coffee seriously. Make a latte or Americano with the Breville espresso machine, set the programmable drip machine for an early trail morning, or choose French press or pour-over. Bring your favorite beans and make your morning cup exactly the way you like it—then take it out to the deck and enjoy the forest.

ROOM TO RELAX

The airy loft bedroom has a queen bed plus a twin bed. The newly remodeled lower-level bedroom, located in the finished basement, has another queen bed plus one built-in bunk with two extra-long twin sleeping spaces, each with its own reading light and charging port.

Three dedicated air-conditioning units serve the loft, main living area, and lower level for comfortable summer stays throughout the cabin. In colder months, heated floors in the lower-level bedroom and bathroom add an extra layer of warmth and comfort.

MossHenge has two bathrooms, both with showers: a convenient main-floor bathroom just off the kitchen and a larger lower-level bathroom. Both are stocked with full-size premium bath products.

The main floor centers around a large antique dining table seating up to eight—equally good for dinner or family board games—and a comfortable living room with a large sectional and wood-burning stove for cozy evenings indoors.

YOUR MT. RAINIER BASECAMP

The large detached heated garage has been converted into MossHenge`s adventure, game, and exercise space, with a full-size ping-pong table, ladder golf, boxing equipment, a beverage refrigerator, and plenty of room to organize hiking, climbing, skiing, or snowshoeing gear.

A large topographic map of Mt. Rainier lets you plan tomorrow`s adventure—or retrace your route after a successful day on the mountain.

THOUGHTFUL EXTRAS

• No-cleaning departure: When it`s time to leave, leave the keys and go. We`ll handle the cleaning.

• Backup power: Heavily forested mountain areas occasionally experience power outages, so MossHenge has a generator connected directly to the cabin`s electrical system. During an outage it keeps the refrigerators, lights, outlets, hot water, and gas range/oven operational—an especially reassuring feature during fall and winter stays.

• Wi-Fi + entertainment: Reliable Wi-Fi is suitable for everyday internet use, streaming, and video calls, with typical download speeds of approximately 15 Mbps. The lower level also has a large wall-mounted Smart TV, an Xbox One with several games that can play Blu-ray discs, and a separate DVD/VHS player for movies old and new.

• Year-round comfort: Three air-conditioning units serve the loft, main living area, and lower level during warmer weather, while electric heat, the wood-burning stove, and heated lower-level bedroom and bathroom floors keep the cabin comfortable in colder months.

• Family friendly: A Pack `n Play, high chair, toys, and games are available upon request, and the upper deck has a baby gate at the stairs leading toward the hot-tub deck.

• Welcome basket: Guests receive a carefully curated selection of snacks, treats, and useful supplies as our welcome to MossHenge.

• Strong cell coverage: Reliable coverage from most major providers, including Verizon.

• Early arrival/late departure: When our booking and cleaning schedule permits, we`re happy to offer early check-in or late checkout at no additional charge. Availability is confirmed within 72 hours.

• Forest stewardship: We are gradually restoring portions of MossHenge’s nine wooded acres with native species as part of a long-term forest-restoration effort. We planted 300 native seedlings in spring 2026 and plan to continue replanting in future seasons.

• Accessibility note: MossHenge is built on a steep, wooded hillside and has multiple stairs both inside and outside, including stairs to the loft, lower level, and hot-tub deck. The property may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

• Privacy-conscious security: An exterior security camera monitors the approach to the cabin and is positioned away from indoor and outdoor guest living areas.

A CABIN WITH A STORY

MossHenge has been our family`s treasured getaway and Mt. Rainier basecamp for years—the setting for countless adventures, celebrations, quiet weekends, and happy memories. We`re delighted to share it with our guests and hope you`ll experience what we love most about it: the forest, the privacy, the comfort, and the feeling of having your own special place at Mt. Rainier.

About the host

Hosted by Garth & Tabata | MossHenge

Host profile image
Mt. Rainier has been part of our family’s life for many years. Tabata and I even got engaged on the mountain, and we’ve spent countless days hiking, exploring, and enjoying this extraordinary corner of Washington. MossHenge grew out of our desire to have a peaceful family retreat and basecamp near the park. We enjoy sharing it with guests who come to experience Rainier, spend time with family and friends, or simply slow down in the forest. We’ve tried to make the cabin the kind of place we ourselves want to return to after a long day outside: comfortable, welcoming, thoughtfully equipped, and easy to enjoy.

Why they chose this property

We love the Nisqually side of Mt. Rainier because it combines remarkably easy access to the national park with the quiet, wooded character of the Ashford area. MossHenge is only about five minutes from the Nisqually Entrance, so guests can get an early start on a hike or spend the day exploring without a long drive home. At the same time, once you return to the property, the surrounding forest makes it feel wonderfully removed from everything. We especially enjoy the changing seasons here—from long summer days and fall color to snowy winter weekends and the return of green each spring.

What makes this property unique

What makes MossHenge unusual is the combination of location, privacy, and the property itself. The cabin sits on nine private wooded acres less than five miles from Mt. Rainier’s Nisqually Entrance. Guests can spend the day exploring the mountain, then come home to a large private hot tub surrounded by forest, a wood-burning stove, outdoor fire table, and comfortable decks among the trees. The detached heated game and exercise room adds space for ping pong, workouts, games, and outdoor gear. We’ve also focused on the details that make a stay easier—from a serious coffee setup and well-equipped kitchen to premium bath products, backup power, family supplies, and a departure routine that doesn’t require guests to clean the cabin.
