About this property
Seaside Serendipity Waterfront Cottage near Twillingate
Summary:
Description
Fall is the most underrated season on the East Coast. The crowds go home, the hills turn, and the light through September and October is the best of the year.
Seaside Serendipity is a warm, quaint cottage at the water's edge, newly renovated by its owner, an interior designer.
A cozy week away for two. A quiet, private place to finally finish that chapter. And if you would rather be moving, the Rockcut Trails, an outstanding coastal trail system, sit only a few minutes away.
The Space:
Light is the first thing you notice. Large windows on the water side fill the house all day, and the design makes the most of every hour of it.
In through the side door to a welcoming foyer, then a chef-friendly kitchen looking out to the ocean, laundry just off it. The kitchen opens into the bright living room, where a large, deeply comfortable sectional faces the water.
The main-floor bedroom (queen) sits quietly at the back, beside a full bath with a deep soaking tub and a separate shower. Upstairs, two more bedrooms, one queen and one with two singles, in deluxe linens and soft cotton bedding.
Between them is the nook: two swivel chairs turned out over the water. Warm and tucked away, it is the spot for a morning coffee, an evening cocktail, or an afternoon with a book.
Out front, a deck with a wide open view and room to eat, sit and stay a while. A set of binoculars sits ready out there, so you can settle in and take in the scenery and whatever wildlife comes past.
There is a security camera that overlooks both entrance doors
Guest Access:
The whole cottage is yours. One parking spot sits directly beside the home. A door code is sent one week before your stay, so you can arrive on your own schedule without waiting on anyone.
The Neighborhood:
Merritt's Harbour is a tiny, historic fishing village located in the scenic area known as Herring Neck. Herring Neck is only a short 15-minute drive from Twillingate, where you'll find all amenities (gas station, grocery stores, liquor store, pharmacy, restaurants, entertainment, etc.). Herring Neck offers beautiful scenery which can be enjoyed by simply walking the roads or by traversing the various local walking paths.
Getting Around:
Most guests to the Twillingate area arrive by car. Although the walking/hiking in the area is incredible and steps from most accommodations, a car is necessary to access some of the sights (i.e. Long Point Light House, various trail heads, etc.)
Other Things to Note:
The Rockcut Trails start a few minutes from the door. It is a community-built network of coastal paths running out along the headlands, roughly fifteen trails in all, from short easy walks to proper day routes. It has a reputation well past this island for how well it is built and looked after, and in the fall you will often have long stretches to yourself.
Great local food options. Lobster and seafood chowder at Sansoms, scallops and cod done well at Georgie's, fish and chips along the harbour, and a fish market if you would rather cook at the cottage. Crow's Nest Café does a proper espresso, latte or coffee and good pastries. The Great Auk Winery pours more than twenty Newfoundland wines made from local berries and fruit. Boat tours run out of Twillingate through the season.
Hours thin out in October, so call ahead.
A security camera covers both entrance doors.
