Tradewinds is a quiet, peaceful, private 2 level one OR two bedroom cottage perched above John's Folly Bay in the scenic, tranquil southeastern corner of St. John. In contrast to many cottages in St. John, we are easily accessible from a paved road. No scary gravelly mountain inclines to traverse to get to Tradewinds! Available as either a one or two bedroom charming, large cottage, Tradewinds can accommodate 2-4 guests. If it's just two of you, the downstairs bedroom is locked and unoccupied for the week. IF YOU'D LIKE MORE ROOM, THE DOWNSTAIRS BEDROOM AND BATH CAN BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ACCOMMODATE A TOTAL OF 4 GUESTS FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE. YOU MUST INDICATE THIS TO THE OWNER THROUGH VRBO A 45 minute drive from Cruz Bay(ferry arrival point), we are five minutes past Coral Bay, a one minute drive to Salt Pond Beach and Ram's Head. Tradewinds features beautiful sunrises from the large deck and the gentle melody of waves on the beach below.
This charming wooden cottage features light, airy rooms with stunning ocean views throughout. The deck commands a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands and a southeastern exposure offers breathtaking sunrises-if you're up that early! Steady trade winds keep the house cool on hot days and ensure bug-free evenings.
Renting as a 1BR grants access to the upper level featuring a kitchen/living room/eating area, bedroom and bathroom. Or for more space, rent Tradewinds as a 2BR cottage granting you access to both the upper and lower levels-one bedroom and bathroom on each level. The lower level, accessed by an enclosed outside stairway, features a beautiful bedroom with a private balcony and a bathroom with ocean views. This configuration is designed for maximum privacy between two bedrooms-each with its own private bath. **This set-up is NOT good for small children, as bedrooms are separated and access between levels is via a covered outside stairway.** The choice is yours, one bedroom or two! ** PLEASE NOTE THE 2nd BDRM is an additional $100.00 per night fee which is not going to be reflected in the initial Homeaway quote. The owner will adjust the rate manually to be reflected. Additionally there is a cleaning fee of 275.00 plus tax. There are only a few other houses on our hillside, ensuring complete privacy in our cottage, with a few houses nearby in case one wanted to wave hello to our neighbors.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host
Hosted by Krista DeRoma
I am a girl of all kinds of trades and generally full of ideas for new and exciting ventures. Which is how we ended up here on St. John. My husband Lenny and I love traveling along with our now grown children and our two Labradors, we have wonderful friends and family. We are blessed with so many gifts from others. I love horticulture, gardening and creating new spaces. I am a graduate from both the University of Maryland and also a graduate from The New York Botanical Garden School of Professional Horticulture. I help manage a 100 acre vineyard on Long Island and I own and operate my own design and horticultural firm for private residences. I did most of my studying in Tuscany, Italy and also building rooftop gardens in Manhattan, New York. Lenny my husband is a consultant in the financial banking world. We are a great team and coming to St. John was one of the best things that we have ever decided to do. We love people of all sorts and making new friends and Tradewinds has helped introduce us to the many wonderful people that have crossed our path because of our mutual love for such a beautiful place in the world.
Why they chose this property
After vacationing for several years in Virgin Gorda and then deciding to "go American" we came to St. John and vacationed here for about 6 years. After we lost all of the elderly loved ones in our family within a relatively short period of time, we decided that we needed to do something fun for us. One day I saw a real estate listing for Tradewinds and I said to my husband, "hey what do you think of this place?" his response, "let's make an offer!" We hadn't even visited Tradewinds. The photos that you see are what we saw. We just went with our gut and dove right in! Here we are. So excited and so happy to be able to share our home with so many wonderful people.
What makes this property unique
The great thing about Tradewinds is you can relax and do nothing or you can fill your day with hiking, swimming, snorkeling or go shopping in Cruz Bay or even St. Thomas. That is what I love about this place. But for us, we are very big supporters of our National Parks and living near to the NP was key for us. It creates a place and atmosphere like no other with beauty and tranquility all around us. Our home Tradewinds lets in the beauty of the outside surrounding area. From the wide and large windows throughout the cottage you can see the mountainside of the National Park and then also three sides of the ocean and islands all around you. You can't escape the beauty anywhere even from within the house. Its natural light glowing through the windows all day gives you such warmth from within. It is just so special. The outdoor deck and sitting area. The bedrooms with their large windows. We have stayed at so many homes in the area and this house I knew was special. It just feels like home and there is no other way to say it.
