The Space:

The cool mountain air greets you as you step onto the porch, where the gentle rustle of pine leaves mixes with the distant call of birds. In the evenings, a warm glow from the indoor fireplace invites you to curl up on the sofa while the smart TV flickers with your favorite shows. Outside, the hot tub steems against the crisp West Virginia sky, offering a soothing retreat after a day of exploring the snow‑kissed trails.

Sleeping arrangements

Two private bedrooms provide comfortable space for up to four guests. The main‑level bedroom features a king bed, while the lofted upper bedroom holds a queen bed. A full bathroom serves both rooms, making it easy for couples, families, or a small group to share the space.

Outdoor living

Step onto the deck or patio and feel the fresh mountain breeze. String lights create a soft glow after sunset, and a fire pit is perfect for roasting marshmallows while the night air turns cool. The hot tub is ready for use year‑round, especially inviting on clear, cold evenings. A grill and outdoor seating let you enjoy a simple meal al fresco when the weather allows.

Living area

The open, two‑story living space flows from the kitchen to the living room, encouraging conversation and togetherness. Comfortable seating surrounds the fireplace, and a smart TV offers entertainment for rainy days. Central heating keeps the home cozy when the temperature drops.

Kitchen and dining

A fully equipped kitchen lets you prepare home‑cooked meals, and the dining table seats four, ideal for sharing meals, board games, or a warm cup of coffee while planning the day ahead.

Family and pet‑friendly touches

Children’s books, toys, and board games are available for younger guests, and a private entrance makes arrivals easy. The home welcomes pets, though cats are not permitted. A small fee for dogs is not required, and the spacious yard gives them room to explore safely.

Location and surroundings

Nestled in Rio, West Virginia, the cabin sits just ten minutes from Bryce Resort and offers easy access to nearby state parks and scenic trails. The surrounding area provides quiet, uncrowded winter scenery, perfect for peaceful walks and gentle hikes.

Practical notes

Wi‑Fi is included, though the remote mountain setting can occasionally result in slower speeds. A brief note about seasonal leaves and pollen on the deck and walkways may be helpful, especially in early spring or autumn.

Pet-Friendly

Bring your furry friends! We love hosting families and well-behaved dogs! For allergy and maintenance reasons, we’re unfortunately unable to host cats.

Ideal for couples seeking a cozy winter retreat, families looking for a relaxed base, or a small group wanting a peaceful getaway, this chalet offers a warm, inviting setting to unwind and reconnect.

We loved our stay here. Very quiet, pretty setting, great hot tub, comfy couch for relaxing. Keep in mind that the road to the house is gravel and very bumpy. Also note that the water has a strong sulfur smell, if you are sensitive to scents. Definitely recommend at stay here for a mountain weekend!

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.

What makes this property unique

We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Red Feather Cottage in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cottage is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
