Located in Beaver, this cabin is in the mountains and on the waterfront. Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Raleigh County Veteran's Inc are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Youth Museum of Southwestern West Virginia and Briar Patch Golf Course. Tamarack Conference Center and Ace Adventure Resort are also worth visiting. Discover the area's water adventures with kayaking and rafting nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with mountain biking and hiking.
Excellent kitchen and utensils, a spacious living room, a great deck with beautiful views, a fire pit and easily acquired wood next door and plenty of beds with 2 bathrooms. The cabin was easy to access and super clean and definitely worth visiting again.
Perfect location for girls trip to the New River Gorge area. Loved coffee on the porch overlooking the river each morning. Excellent hiking trails nearby. Cabin obviously recently renovated, neighbors were friendly. Easy check-in and check-out

Host was a bit hands off, which is fine but there was some confusion wit the door code. And since there is no cell service at the location, we had to drive to find a signal to get into the house
This fully renovated cabin offers a fresh interior with unobstructed views of the river. Two bedrooms, 2 full baths, a great kitchen and gathering room can accommodate a single author looking for quiet or a large family. Friendly neighbors and the beauty of the surrounding area makes for an enjoyable stay. The property manager was quick to respond and helpful to this first-time VRBO guest.
Camp Sophie was a joy! The house was very well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was clean and I think recently updated so it is very nice. We loved the back porch and the lovely view of the New River. It's not close to shops or stuff like that but that's what we like. (But not a super long drive to restaurants or shops either) We had a little issue with a bed but the host was on it in a flash and took care of the problem. They were super easy to communicate with I highly recommend Camp Sophie for a relaxing getaway in the New River Gorge.
Cabin was as advertised, 2 bedrooms with 2 baths and plenty of space to cook, eat and relax. The interior has been redone with new appliances and the works. All the basic needs are included. River front location with a great view of the river. New wifi system worked well but no cell service for our Verizon phones. We booked an ATV and white water rafting tour which were within 40 minutes of the cabin. We preferred this location to the local resorts that offered cabins and camping but it did increase the amount of driving we had to do to visit different areas of the park.We would stay at Camp Sophie again if we return to the Gorge.
Camp Sophie is a lovely stay for a visit to New River Gorge Nat'l Park and Preserve, especially if you want a place more off the beaten path. It's a long, winding trip through the mountains to the place, but it's worth it. The views: GORGEOUS. Neighbors: friendly and helpful. You are right on the river, but we found fishing from the bank difficult due to trees and shrubs growing at the edge, so best to plan to fish from another location. The cabin is updated nicely and cute, with all the basics you'd need for a stay. The kitchen was especially nice, and well-stocked. We had an issue with the bed in the main room, however. The slats on the frame were too short and too few (and there was no box spring), so the mattress and I collapsed to the floor multiple times our first night. We reached out to our hosts and they responded quickly, and came to make adjustments the next day. While the new slats kept the mattress from collapsing, the bed was so incredibly creaky we never felt comfortable both sleeping in it at the same time. I ended up sleeping in one of the bunks in the kids' room. Not the end of the world, but certainly not ideal. One other drawback was a lot of ants around the place, but some of that is to be expected when you're out in a wild setting. We just swept and washed surfaces frequently. If you're looking to be away from the busyness surrounding the national park and really experiencing the natural beauty of West Virginia, Camp Sophie could be a good fit!
Great place to stay while visiting New River Gorge National Park. Great location. Quiet and clean. Loved the mornings drinking coffee on the porch and listening to the birds. I think we identified 17 different birds!Everything you need.
