The Pine View Bungalow is a two bedroom, two bath home perfect for one or two couples or a small family. The house is located on scenic Highway 1 at the north end of the fishing village of Bodega Bay. It is situated at the back of a large double lot and is adjacent to our other one bedroom/one bathroom Pine View Cottage (not available for rent). There is a large fenced back yard. and ample parking for your car(s) or boat(s). We welcome you and your well behaved canine.
Upon entering the home, you will immediately notice the beautiful finishes including 14' vaulted ceilings paneled in knotty pine, the rock faced gas fireplace, the wainscot and the numerous windows that take advantage of the fantastic view. The living room is furnished with a comfortable sectional, chairs and a large coffee table perfect for laying out a puzzle or playing games. Additional amenities include free Cable TV, DVD/CD player with surround sound and high speed wireless Internet.
The first bedroom has a queen bed, vaulted knotty pine ceiling and a large sliding glass door that opens onto the back patio. There is a bath directly across the hall from this bedroom that has a tub/shower combination and also houses the stacked washer and dryer. Up two steps is the spacious master bedroom, with a cal-king bed and a sliding glass door that opens on to the patio and hot tub. Up five steps is the master bath that features a glassed-in shower and a vaulted, knotty pine paneled ceiling. There is a hot water on demand system for the house that provides unlimited hot water (although we encourage water conservation).
The kitchen is fully furnished with all the equipment necessary to prepare fantastic meals. You might even use vegetables bought at the seasonal Bodega Farmer's Market or locally caught sea food, particularly dungeness crab purchased from any one of several sources within a 1/2 mile of the house.
If you enjoy cooking like we do, you may never want to leave the house, but if you choose to treat yourself to a great meal, the Michelin rated Terrapin Creek Cafe is directly across the street. There's nothing better than walking to dinner - enjoying great cuisine, drinks and dessert - and not having to get in your car!
A covered patio runs the length of the back of the house and contains the private hot tub, a table and chairs and a Weber barbecue. Relax in the hot tub at night and watch the fishing boats come into the harbor, and, on the 4th of July, watch the fireworks. A patio on the side of the house has comfortable Adirondack chairs and provides a view of the Bodega harbor.
A short walk will take you to Porto Bodega where you can charter a fishing trip on one of the many charter boats, pick up locally caught seafood, or just explore the harbor and sample some of the best crab and clam chowder on the coast.
There are many recreational activities within a mile of the house, including golf, windsurfing, fishing, hiking, biking, kite flying, beachcombing, kayaking, bird and whale watching. Or you can explore nearby towns, such as Occidental (eat at Negri's restaurant), Freestone (Osmosis Spa is a must) and the Russian River area. Or just take a drive north on Highway 1 along the most spectacular coastline in the world. You won't be disappointed.

About the host
Hosted by Rebecca Mills
Siblings Robert and Rebecca Mills, along with their spouses Diana and Kevin Dougherty, are co-owners of the Pine View Bungalow and Cottage. Robert spent many years as a custom home builder, and used his skills to completely remodel both houses. Diana went to school to fulfill her dream and passion for landscape design. She has an innate ability for knowing which plants to use in which location and continues to put her design ideas into practice at the property. Kevin has been coming to Bodega since he was eight, and he and Becky spent their honeymoon here. They retired from civil service after more than 30 years, and currently live in Fair Oaks, California. Becky likes all things craft, and Kevin is an avid chef and gardener.
Why they chose this property
In 2010, Robert and Diana and Becky and Kevin had the wild idea to buy a little 'fixer' house somewhere in the Russian River area, where Diana's family has owned property for over 100 years. After looking at a lot of homes and making offers without success (our realtor almost gave up on us!) Robert and Diana drove to Bodega Bay in the pouring rain to look at a house that was just listed. To make a long story short, they knew the little house at the end of town was 'the one'. Money inherited from our cherished mother, Elizabeth Mills, allowed us to purchase the property in 2010. A simple remodel it was not. We ended up having to tear most of the house down to the foundation. It was rebuilt with the skills, knowledge, imagination and hard work of our own private contractor (Robert!). The result is a darling house with beautiful finishes that feels much larger than its actual square footage. Robert then used his skills to remodel a little garage on the property that we now call the Pine View Cottage. It has the same nice finishes and shows the attention to detail that went into it's remodel. Because it was raining the first time Robert and Diana saw the property, they didn't even realize there was a view until after we'd made our offer and went back to see it for a more careful inspection. Were we excited when we discovered that we could see not only Bodega Harbor but Bodega Head and the Pacific Ocean right from the window. What a bonus. None of us ever dreamed we'd be able to have a house in Bodega Bay. But since we've been here, we've discovered more and more things that Bodega Bay and the surrounding area have to offer. We love every minute we get to spend in Bodega Bay and our little home away from home.
What makes this property unique
The Pine View Bungalow sits at the north end of town and its extra large lot provides a real sense of privacy. It is the last house in the row of houses and is surrounded by undeveloped property on the east and north sides. The Pine View Cottage shares the double lot with the Bungalow but both are completely separate and private. Because the house sits at the very back of the lot there is ample space for parking cars and recreational vehicles in front. We also love the location for its proximity to one of the best restaurants in the area, Terrapin Creek Cafe.
