Cozy Catskills A-frame hideaway
Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stayCozy Catskills A-frame hideaway with epic views, a big deck, a wood stove, toys for the kiddos, movie projector, and even an outdoor shower—your mountain escape starts here!
The Mountain House – A-Frame Chalet with Breathtaking Views & Total Privacy
Escape to The Mountain House, a cozy A-frame chalet nestled on the mountainside in the heart of the Catskills. Set at the end of a private road and tucked down a long driveway on nine secluded acres, this classic mountain retreat offers sweeping mountain views, total privacy, and a true sense of escape.
The house features two comfortable bedrooms plus a charming sleeping loft, making it ideal for up to five guests. The main bedroom has a luxury king bed, the second bedroom features a twin bed, and the loft includes a comfortable queen sleeper sofa with foam memory mattress. Inside, you’ll find a warm and inviting living space with vaulted ceilings, big picture windows, and a cozy wood-burning stove for the colder winter months. A modern mini split system provides both heat and air conditioning, so you’ll stay comfortable year-round. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook and dine at home, and thoughtful touches like toys, books, and games make it especially welcoming for families with young children.
Up in the loft, you’ll also find a projector screen—perfect for cozy movie nights after a day spent hiking or exploring the area.
Please note: while the house has a shower only (there is no built-in bathtub), we do provide a portable toddler tub (Stokke Flexi Bath) for families with little ones.
Step outside onto the spacious, covered wraparound deck—perfect for lounging, dining, or simply taking in the stunning mountain views. The deck includes a gas Weber grill and outdoor dining table for relaxed al fresco meals, as well as a child-sized swing (ages 1–4) attached to the porch for little ones to enjoy. In the warmer months, you can begin your day with a peaceful rinse in the outdoor shower, tucked away in a private corner and surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
Just a few steps from the house, you’ll find a fire pit with mountain views—an ideal spot for making s’mores, watching the sunset, and taking in the star-filled Catskills sky at night.
Though it feels like a secluded retreat, The Mountain House is just a 10-minute drive from the charming town of Margaretville, where you’ll find great restaurants, cafes, local shops, and grocery stores.
Please note: In the winter months, due to the long, steep driveway, a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle is required to access the house.
Whether you're sipping coffee on the deck, exploring nearby hiking trails, skiing in the winter, or simply enjoying the stillness of the woods, The Mountain House combines rustic charm with modern comfort to create an unforgettable Catskills escape.
The entire house is available to guests other than a couple locked cabinets
I am local and available to guest in an emergency, otherwise I let you enjoy the peacefulness of your vacation.
Being in the woods means you may encounter wildlife and insects—it’s all part of the natural beauty here. Occasionally, small critters like mice may try to find their way inside, but we take proactive measures to keep them out. Some guests prefer traps, while others don’t; if traps are set, they’re discreetly placed. As for bugs, they are a part of outdoor life—bug spray is recommended from spring through fall, and ticks are present year-round, so always check after spending time outside. If you’re bringing a pet, please ensure they are on a preventative treatment.
Weather here can be unpredictable, with snow, ice, rain, and mud depending on the season. We do our best to keep paths clear, but nature sometimes has its own plans. Rock salt helps in winter, but in extreme cold, ice can refreeze. The driveway is plowed after 3-5 inches of snow, but timing depends on road conditions and the plow schedule. If a storm is expected, please park close together to allow for plowing or park at the bottom if you may need to leave before the plow arrives. AWD vehicles are strongly recommended for our region.
We appreciate your understanding and hope you enjoy the peaceful beauty of the mountains!
