About the host
Hosted by Katie Loovis
Hello, I'm Katie! I was born and raised in Baltimore, went to UNC for college and lacrosse, I direct a statewide nonprofit organization, and my passion is plants (Master Gardener Certification, 2015; Therapeutic Horticulture Certificate of Mastery, 2023). I recently developed my four acre property in Chapel Hill into a restorative environment and therapeutic landscape with healing gardens, and then founded the Chapel Hill Retreat Center LLC, through which I offer personal development retreat experiences based on principles of permaculture, therapeutic horticulture, and Shinrin-yoku (Japanese forest bathing). Through the VRBO and the Chapel Hill Retreat Center programming, I enjoy helping people turn down the noise in life and experience the peace found in nature. Helping people feel rested, recentered, and renewed is my vocation:-)

The moss-covered walking trails, creeks, and garden rooms are complete with hammocks, tree swings, fire pits, tables, and lounges, and were featured Chapel Hill Magazine and on the Chapel Hill Garden Club Tour in 2024. It's really beautiful. Also, Chapel Hill is known as one of the best college towns in America. I love that our vibrant community is positioned within the Triangle Region, which is anchored with world-class universities (UNC, Duke, and NC State) and boasts a thriving arts scene, diverse culinary offerings, numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, and an international airport.
