The apartment is located on the second floor of a historic Victorian home and is accessed by stairs. Guests climb approximately 15 outdoor steps to reach the private guest entrance, followed by approximately 6 indoor steps to the apartment. There is no elevator.

The home is surrounded by a distinctive landscaped garden rather than a traditional front lawn. The garden is part of the character of the property and includes a variety of established and native-style plantings that many guests and neighbors especially enjoy.

The apartment was beautiful, spacious, cozy, and absolutely sparkling clean. Sherry was very welcoming when I arrived and very attentive to a couple of minor concerns. Nice location too.

I was born and raised in New Jersey and have lived in this area my entire life. I love gardening, traveling—especially to the Caribbean—spending time with family and friends, and, of course, my pups.

Professionally, I have spent my career helping people and organizations, and I genuinely love work that allows me to support, connect with, and serve others.

I feel fortunate to live in this historic home, and in 2015 I decided to open part of it to short-term guests after regular renting since 1997. Since then, I have had the pleasure of welcoming people from across the United States and around the world.

Hosting has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people who are here for so many different reasons—family visits, celebrations, work, travel, and new beginnings. It has been a meaningful and rewarding part of my life, and I take great pride in offering guests a comfortable, welcoming place to stay.

Why they chose this property

I chose to buy my home in Montclair in 1997 because I wanted to raise my son in a diverse, welcoming and supportive community.

I loved the character and energy of Montclair then, and over the years I have watched the town continue to grow and evolve while still keeping much of what originally drew me here.

Today, it is a vibrant place to live and visit, with wonderful restaurants, culture, shopping, community events and easy access to New York City. I feel fortunate to have called Montclair home for so many years and enjoy sharing the area with guests.

What makes this property unique

I genuinely try to do everything with love and attention, and I want guests to feel as though they are staying with a trusted friend or family member while still having the privacy and independence of their own apartment.

I especially love the architecture and warmth of older homes. This Victorian has the character, details and personality that newer properties often do not, while still offering the comforts guests need for an enjoyable stay.

The location is another part of what makes it special. You can walk to the train for easy access to New York City, head south and reach the Jersey Shore in about an hour, or travel west to enjoy hiking, mountains and some of New Jersey’s beautiful countryside.

Montclair itself offers an incredible variety of restaurants, cafés, shopping, culture and entertainment. From here, you can enjoy city, suburbs, beach and nature—all while having a comfortable home base to return to.
