“Where the Wild Things Are” Quiet! Seaview! 2nd from the beach. August available
Be inspired: Maurice Sendak wrote 'Where The Wild Things Are' while summering in this house!
Our little house built in 1925 is perfect for a quiet vacation... or a writer's retreat. Our home, secluded by dense foliage, gives privacy and silence that is only punctuated by the music of the changing tides and the birds' call. We are the second house from the beach -- roll out of the bed and into the ocean! Seaview is a quiet family community with lifeguards and the best market on the island- Seaview Market! 7-minute walk to the ferry. Very close to Ocean Beach with shops and restaurants. There are 4 bedrooms, all with A/C and overhead fans - 1 queen size bed, 1 full size bed, 2 rooms with 2 single beds. A portable A/C unit is downstairs as well as fans. For those colder months, there is a wood-burning fireplace. There are 1 1/2 baths plus a glorious outside shower. The kitchen is fully equipped. There is a grill for outside dining on the deck. This is not a rental home, but our family home that we rent out only for a brief period every summer. Lifeguards on the ocean. Bay beach, baby pool (and swimming lessons), playground, basketball court access are available with an extra charge. Baseball field. Minutes from Seaview Market/Ferry and Ocean Beach.

Wonderful, traditional, Seaview house
This Seaview house has lots of character and just steps from the beach. The house, which dates from the '20s, is filled with books and has a wonderful welcoming atmosphere. Unlike some older houses, it is very bright. The location is fantastic, being just one house from the beach. Also, the house has an unusual amount of open space around it. The owner provided lots of bikes, beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. and the kitchen facilities were great. This is clearly a much loved home rather than a dedicated rental property.
This part of Seaview is very quiet, but is close to the bustle and facilities of Ocean Beach.
We wouldn't hesitate to rent this house again.
About the host

I have been coming out to Fire Island since I was a child in the early '70's. Now my children enjoy Fire Island summers. Even though we live in Italy, we make the trip back to the beach every summer. There is nowhere like it in the world. It is our paradise.
Why they chose this property
This house was passed down to us by my mother. It is our home and we cherish it. It is a true beach house, a cozy cottage with lots of character just steps away from the ocean. We wouldn't want any other house.
What makes this property unique
The beach is literally 100 steps from our front door. No cars. A place where everyone can roam free safely. It is in Seaview, where there are lifeguards, less-crowded beaches, access to the Seaview bay beach with playground and pool (and swimming lessons), baseball field, and a quieter atmosphere than many other communities on the island. Enjoy the beach morning and night with others who share the same love of peace and quiet and nature.
