The Space:
As one of the few single-unit cabins in Brule Village, Maple Leaf Lodge offers complete privacy. Inside, you'll find a warm, rustic atmosphere with wood-paneled walls and cozy furnishings. The cabin comfortably accommodates families and groups with 5 beds across 4 dedicated bedrooms—no open lofts here, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep for everyone.
Our home features two distinct living areas. The main level has a fully equipped kitchen that opens to dining areas and a living room, perfect for gathering together. The recently remodeled lower level offers a second family room where you can watch TV, play board games, or challenge someone to one of the 1000+ classic Nintendo games. For your convenience, there are 2.5 bathrooms, with one on each floor.
Step outside to your private backyard space. Unwind in the hot tub after a day of adventure (or make that your daily "adventure" if you prefer).
Guest Access:
You will have exclusive access to the entire property during your stay, including the full cabin, the outdoor hot tub, and private parking areas.
Seasonal Activities:
Winter:
- Hit the slopes at Ski Brule—just a short walk or drive
- Snowshoe or cross-country ski local trails
- Warm up at the Brule Lodge with hot cocoa by the fire
- Explore nearby snowmobile trails across Iron County
Spring & Summer:
- Hike and swim at Lake Ottawa Recreation Area
- Kayak and fish the Paint and Brule Rivers
- Ride Iron County’s expansive ATV/UTV trail network
- Golf at one of 4 within 30 min drive (George Young, Miner's 9, Crystal View, & Big Sand)
- Grill out and stargaze from the back deck & hot tub
Fall:
- Breathtaking fall foliage drives through the Northwoods
- Hike forest trails surrounded by golden color
- Hunting season—check Michigan DNR for regulations
- Cozy evenings in with chili, games, & movies
Local Favorites:
- Riverside Pizzeria – Great local (award-winning) pizza
- Contrast Coffee – Great coffee & chill vibes in Iron River
- Homestead Lodge – BBQ on the mountain at night (select nights; reservations through Ski Brule)
- Ski Brule Lodge - On-site eats and après-ski drinks
Other Things to Note:
Please note that while we are very close to the ski resort, our property is not ski-in/ski-out. We are located a convenient 10-minute walk or a 2-minute drive to the Ski Brule Lodge and lifts. Shuttles are typically available by calling Ski Brule Lodge.
Lastly, we often heavily discount our non-weekend nights to make it more affordable for guests to add an extra night (or several). We find guests often enjoy adding an extra night so they can arrive earlier and/or have a home base to get an extra day of skiing (or other activities) in before heading home. In particular, we often find that Thursday and Sunday skiing at Ski Brule can be some of the best (and least crowded) days!

Frequently asked questions
About the host
Hosted by James Bacon
My name is James and I live in Appleton, WI with my wife and two boys. I have always enjoyed skiing and traveling, so deciding to rent out our family's ski cabin for others to enjoy felt like a natural choice. I hope you enjoy your time at our cabin!
Why they chose this property
We chose Ski Brule because some we met some friends there to ski after moving to Appleton and felt like it was the perfect, family-friendly winter getaway to enjoy some rest and adventure on the slopes.
What makes this property unique
Our property is unique because it's one of the only standalone, single-unit options in Brule Village and maintains its cozy, cabin vibes, while also having the modern updates and comforts we have come to expect. We hope you enjoy the cozy space with enough room to spread out (especially if you're traveling with kids) and the hot tub (new in winter 2024).
