The Doohickey - A Tiny Apartment in the Woods
Discover serenity and nature at this charming, tiny apartment tucked away deep in South Carolina’s woods. Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, adventurers, or anyone seeking a peaceful retreat, this cozy getaway is surrounded by stunning scenery and offers a range of outdoor amenities.
Please keep in mind BEFORE CONTINUING: If you are not the outdoorsy or social type, we would love to host your stay, but our place may not be well-suited for you.
We have bugs, spiders, ducks, and other outdoor critters. We have a shared Pavilion, shared showers and toilets, a fire pit, and other community gathering places.
The outdoor bathrooms, while dutifully maintained during your visit, MAY BE SHARED with other guests, depending on the number of visitors during your stay.
The facility has a capacity of 8 guests served by 2 toilets and 2 showers.
Description continued:
Inside, the thoughtfully designed space strikes a balance between comfort and practicality. The fully equipped kitchen features a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and dual induction cooktop—ideal for preparing simple, tasty meals. A small dinette for two offers a perfect spot for breakfast or a cup of coffee.
The living area includes a Roku TV, Wi-Fi, and a double sleeper sofa downstairs.
Upstairs, a cozy sleeping loft with a queen-sized bed provides extra sleeping space for guests.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a sleeping loft with a 4 1/2-foot ceiling.
The bathrooms and showers (PLEASE NOTE: Rustic - no heat or AC) are located across the gravel drive, approximately 180 ft away. This would be about the distance of a bathhouse from most campsites in a state park. Please note that they may be shared depending on the number of guests staying with us during your visit. If they are shared, they are maintained throughout your visit for utmost cleanliness.
Step outside to the pavilion—perfect for enjoying morning coffee while listening to bird songs, relaxing with family, dining at picnic tables, grilling, or hanging out beneath the open sky.
Guests have access to the outdoor pavilion (equipped with a coffee bar (available from October 1st - May 31st), and grills), the walking trail, and the pond—perfect for fishing.
Gather around the fire pit in the evening for cozy conversations or spend the day fishing at the pond, stocked with bass and bream.
Explore the scenic walking trail that winds through the woods, offering solitude and adventure just steps from your doorstep. You might even stop to observe or interact with grazing cows in the neighboring field.
Expect wildlife, insects, and dirt—part of the authentic outdoor experience.
For outdoor enthusiasts, additional campsites are available for boondocking, making this an ideal base for weekend trips or extended adventures.
Larger groups can also book additional facilities, such as a smaller sleep shed or a camper, but these are available separately and subject to availability.
Located conveniently near Interstates 77 and 20, this secluded retreat provides easy access to regional attractions while offering a peaceful, natural haven for relaxation and exploration.
Whether you seek a restful escape or an outdoor playground, this tiny woodland apartment combines rustic charm, comfort, and natural beauty for an unforgettable stay!
The Doohickey is one of two cozy, tiny apartments located at the front of the property, next to the main garage. For your convenience, bathrooms and showers are situated directly across the gravel driveway - approximately 180/feet.
Pets are welcome with prior approval. Just so you know, dogs must be socialized, as there are roaming dogs and ducks on the property. Our five friendly dogs, who live on the property, often interact with guests, contributing to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Please keep in mind, this is an outdoor experience—expect insects, wildlife, and dirt.
