The property was described on VRBO as having an elevator (it does but it is frequently broken requiring tenant to climb narrow curved stairs to the apartment) and washer and dryer (there was a hookup for the machines in the apartment but no machines. The laundry was a pair of pay machines in a cramped closet on the floor above). The pictures in VRBO were deceptive. The windows had aged air conditioning units in them, the furnishings were old and worn. The bathroom was cramped and had two large holes near the baseboard that were covered with black plastic and duct tape. I killed a centipede there on the first day. The kitchen was small with a dishwasher that pulled away from the counter when the door was opened. There were no basic supplies like salt, pepper, sugar etc and minimal table ware. My wife and I contacted VRBO the day after we arrived reporting our concerns. They wanted us to remain there for 24 hours to give the host a chance to fix the problems. We refused and moved to. Hotel. I spent 5 days and multiple phone calls and messages thru the VRBO website but with no resolution until I threatened legal action. The host finally agreed to refund me for the stay minus the one night we stayed in the apartment. VRBO refunded me their fee. We have used VRBO several times in the past with no problem. When faced with these problems they claimed that they could only refund if the host agreed in spite of my making all of the arrangements on their website.
