At the eastern end of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula lies the seaside resort of Zingst, with its 270-meter-long pier directly on the Baltic Sea. Local attractions include the Experimentarium, several photo galleries, the local history museum, the harbour on the Bodden side, the Kurhaus, and the captains’ houses with their ornate front doors typical of the region. The fall bird migration, featuring the spectacular sight of cranes resting, is a unique experience on the Zingst Peninsula.
Day trips by boat to Hiddensee or Barth across the Bodden, or a 38-km drive to the World Heritage city of Stralsund, are possible. Rügen, home to the “Störtebeker Festival,” is also nearby. Don’t miss the western beach between Ahrenshoop and the lighthouse—it’s considered one of the five most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world.
