No one who visits isn't left for words.. Four bedrooms, two on the main level and two up, plus four full baths make for an easy share situation for family or couples. The house is a product of our imaginations and skill levels.
This has been our home since the early 90's. It was a bit cramped and "tired" when we bought it but we expanded as our boys grew. We are happy to share it now so that others can feel the the "ahhhh..." as you drive down the curvy driveway. We live in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by friends of over 30 years we are really sensitive to noise limits. WE STRICTLY ENFORCE A 10:00 OUTDOOR NOISE CURFEW. We hope you understand.
The following events have minimum stays. Spring and Fall Furniture Market 4 nights. WFU Graduation 4 nights. WFU Homecoming 3 nights Thanksgiving 4 nights Christmas 4 nights.
Our outdoor porch is a lovely place to gather. We do ask that you keep the volume low out here as the topography really makes voices travel. We are in a quiet neighborhood so we like to be respectful of our neighbors. We have a small fire pit on the porch as well. Do be careful. We have a fireplace in the living room (currently it is not operable due to chimney issues) and wood stove in the kitchen which we have just discovered to have an issue with the chimney. Old houses!!! We have a gas grill. The yard is large and rambling. Do keep and eye on your children.

This was our second time staying here - the second time was even better than the first: the house is a little bit like seeing an old friend! It’s comforting and familiar and so welcoming - the house, itself, is magical, and its proximity to so many lovely things in Winston-Salem, while somehow maintaining an illusion of being in its own world, makes for a really lovely trip. You can do and see everything you want and then retreat to a warm, winding house. It’s wonderful!
This home was the best in every way. Location, space, outside deck, fully-equipped kitchen, multiple tvs for watching every game and on and on! We loved our weekend so much. If you have a large group of couples or families with kids- book this house immediately!
Four adults had a great getaway at this truly unique property. We delighted in watching the birds from the kitchen window, grilling out on the covered porch,, curling up on the couches, and admiring the artwork in every room. We felt away from it all but only minutes away from any attraction. We’d love to learn more about the history of the house!
We loved our stay in this house - so many visually interesting things to look at and plenty of hang out spaces for our family! It was conducive to cozy chats with little nooks and larger group fun with the rec room complete with pool table, large TV and dart board! Amazing! The owners were responsive and accommodating - we are so grateful we found this place and hope to stay again!
It was such a delight to stay in this wonderful love- and fun-filled home. We all fell head-over-heels for the home and property! Every little detail is perfect and so very special. There is beauty, creativity, and treasures everywhere you look! Convenient location, lots of amazing indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, everything you could ever need, and so much to see and do! We enjoyed every minute and hope to come back! We also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely and talented owners and learning more about the property's history and the many special memories made there over the years. We enjoyed every minute and hope to come back!
This house feels like your worlds away from the city - and yet you’re only ten minutes from so many things, including trails, gardens and restaurants, and only about half an hour from state parks. The property is interesting, cozy and spacious enough that people can tuck themselves away when they need a moment. It’s a lovely house that’s quirky in all the wonderful ways - I would move in tomorrow!
We have family in WS but didn't want to overrun their house with 10 people and the family dog. This worked perfect, it became the meet up for Christmas Eve and Christmas celebration. Our family enjoyed this reunion which brought members spanning several generations from Miami, Atlanta, and Chapel Hill together. Susan and Jeff kept us informed of pertinent information about the house and the blistering cold front that came through that week. Highly recommend to any large group getting together in Winston Salem for Wake events or reunions.
This was our second stay in this home, both occasions for a nearby swimrun race. We love this house - so much character. We had 7-8 adults and easily could have slept the full 10. Plenty of space. We cooked both meals there, and really enjoyed the outdoor covered patio area. Thank you for sharing your home. It's such a significant piece of special memories from our weekend
Amazing house in a location close to Winston-Salem yet on a lot that feels remote. The home exudes charisma, warmth, with a sense of artistic fun. The gardens, huge porch and layout allowed community and private space. So easy to book and communicate with. Highly recommend.
This house in the woods is wonderful. The kitchen is well stocked. Great outdoor space for a glass of wine or two or three! Wake Forest Univ and Reynolda Village are less than a 5 minute drive. Grocery stores and lots of restaurants are close by.
This house was an absolute joy to stay in. We took our parents and inlaws to the Paul McCartney concert and had 9 total people with kids in the house. Every corner is a different discovery. Property was as advertised. No surprises. WiFi worked great. It's in a very nice area within 5 minutes of a grocery store and multiple restaurants. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Our favorite restaurant was Mama Zoe's...absolutely amazing. Definitely worth checking out.
The property owners were lovely. This is not a vacation home that is rented most of the time- this is a family home that is available to borrow- so the imprint of the family is very evident here vs a more hotel-like atmosphere. We loved it- especially the heated floor in the kitchen and surrounding woods.
This house is one of the most unique places I’ve stayed. The owners have put a lot of work into decorating with cool artwork and keeping the yard looking great. Our family stayed here and the kids loved exploring the yard, playing pool, and bird watching.
This is a beautiful, and unique property. While many of the construction materials of this home seem to be repurposed from industrial buildings, it still has a very warm, welcoming, and cozy feel. Overall, we were very happy with the property, and felt more like we were in the N.C. mountains, as opposed to Winston Salem.
Wonderful property and rental for a family gathering. Owners are easy to work with and the home has space for 10+ comfortably. I would highly recommend.
Our plans changed last minute and we were looking for options for a getaway in NC, we weren't planning on going to Winston-Salem, but when I found this home it looked like a wonderful option for our group...and we were not disappointed!!
The home was everything we hoped for our group, lots of space, big kitchen, comfy rooms, fun den/game room, firepit and a big covered space outside to enjoy the evenings. Loved how the owners built and decorated the space and how it felt like you were hidden away from everyone with the trees and woods around us.
Great home and would definitely recommend this rental to our friends and family!!
This was our third visit to this unique home, and we love it!
We love the common areas and especially the pavilion and firepit.
Susan is a wonderful host, great communication.

Our home is the product of who we are; an interior designer and a Realtor who wants to be an architect. Featured in Winston Salem Magazine, this 3400 s.f. (website hidden) is part log cabin and part cutting edge hi tech. Relaxing, peaceful, serene. We are in the middle of the woods yet ten minutes from downtown and a mile and a half from Wake Forest University. All mod cons including WiFi, cable, lots of parking. We built this house to relax in. We live here when not accommodating guests. We have enjoyed our experience staying in others homes around the world and thought we would share our place with fellow travelers. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
Why they chose this property
The house and location are unique in that we are 7-8 minutes from Winston Salem's excellent and vibrant downtown and yet once you drive down the driveway you feel a million miles from its hustle and bustle.
What makes this property unique
We are located in a neighborhood called Lake of the Woods where the elite of Winston Salem built their hunting cabins in the 1930's. Our house was built as a one room log cabin by the Hanes family, of Hanes Hosiery. Many, many iterations later it is a structure that wows everyone who visits. Nearby are many restaurants, Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and several very good mid to upper level American. One note, the house has several level changes and may not be suitable for some guests. My 86 year old mother-in-law does fine but wanted to make you aware.
