Our “Coco de Mer” apartment in Wieck on the Darss Peninsula is very spacious (100 square metres) and of high quality. And if you have a boat, you can also moor it in the private harbour here. Nowhere else on the Darss will you find a comparable holiday rental. The seafaring village of Wieck on the Darss is the starting point for many beautiful routes on the Baltic Sea. You can reach all destinations from our apartment by car in just 30 minutes or less: the seaside resorts of Ahrenshoop, Wustrow, Prerow, or Zingst. The nearest village is just 4 kilometres away. Interesting destinations near Wieck: A few kilometres from Wieck on the Darss is the seafaring village of Dorfborn. The name derives from “Borina,” which means “pine forest” in Slavic. Just before Born lies the picturesque Bulten, small islands covered in grass and reeds, separated from the Saal Bodden by a narrow channel. In the past, it was always one of the upper class’s favourite hunting grounds. And so, in Born, you’ll find the “Ferdinand von Raesfeld” Forest and Hunting Museum, named after the founder of the Darsser Forest. This part of the forest, with its old pine, beech, and oak groves, is among the oldest in Germany. Ten kilometres from Wieck lies the Baltic Sea seaside resort of Ahrenshoop, undoubtedly one of the most attractive destinations in Germany today. The Ahrenshoop artists’ colony was founded around 1892. Even today, the artistic flair of this Baltic Sea seaside resort remains unique. In Ahrenshoop, you’ll find many lovely shops, as well as a wide variety of restaurants and cafés. Here you can go for a stroll and enjoy the luxury.

Stralsund and Rostock: These two Hanseatic cities on the Baltic Sea are also highly attractive destinations. Both cities captivate visitors with their historic city centers, particularly thanks to their beautiful gabled houses and red-brick churches. In Stralsund, a visit to the German Oceanographic Museum, the “Oceanum,” is highly recommended. With 40 aquariums featuring North Sea species and 37 tanks with tropical fish, this museum is the largest aquarium in Germany and Northern Europe. Also worth visiting is the bird park in Marlow. In the 20 stremmata of the park, you’ll encounter a wide variety of bird species. Approximately 150 species of birds from all over the world are represented here. This bird park is well worth a detour. On your way back to Wieck on the Darss, we recommend visiting the German Amber Museum, which is located just 250 metres from the main square in Ribnitz-Damgarten in the historic monastery. Let yourself be enchanted by the “gold of the North” here!

Nature, nature, nature: The Darß is one of a kind!: Like a magnet for migratory birds in the “Boddenlandscape” National Park, because the birds find calm waters for resting and a variety of feeding grounds here. Experience an unparalleled natural spectacle as thousands of cranes glide through the air. Every year, on the eve of spring, they begin their migration to Northern and Eastern Europe, and in the fall, when the birds return from their wintering grounds in southern France, Spain, Portugal, and Northwest Africa, thousands of cranes are drawn to their largest habitat in Central Europe, the so-called “Rügen-Bock-Kirr region.” But this spectacle alone makes a trip to the Darss well worth it. In particular, in the fall, up to 40,000 of these impressively large birds can be observed over an extended period. During the day, they forage in harvested wheat and corn fields, and at night they fly in long chains back to their nests in the shallow lagoons. Truly impressive!
