Groß Zicker/Mönchgut: Groß Zicker is a small village that has existed since the 12th century and is set to be designated a fully protected historic site. It is the best-preserved former Mönchgut middle-class farming village today.
Here you’ll find the famous parish widow’s house, a half-timbered clay-walled house dating from 1723. Another historic landmark is the brick church (late 14th century) with its remarkable stained-glass windows.
There are also two modern playgrounds and a football field.
A bike rental shop is located right next to us.
Groß Zicker also has a small fishing harbour. In the village itself, there are still two fishermen who smoke the morning’s catch daily and offer it—no later than 11:00 a.m.—as a delicious fish sandwich or as a whole eel.
Mönchgut forms the southeastern tip of the island of Rügen and is bordered to the north by the Mönchgraben strait between the Baltic Sea resorts of Sellin and Baabe, to the east by the Göhrener Hövt with the Nordperd, and to the south by th
The chalk cliffs: Rügen’s chalk cliffs, featuring the 119-meter-high Königsstuhl in the Stubbenkammer, are the island’s most famous landmark. The best way to experience their true grandeur and beauty is on a boat tour departing from the Göhren pier along the resort coast. If you wish, you can break up the boat trip at the piers in the Baltic Sea resorts of Sellin or Binz and make the return trip on the “Rasender Roland” train or by bus. Also recommended: a hike along the chalk coast from Sassnitz to the Königsstuhl (about 2 hours). From there, take the bus directly back to Mönchgut
Cape Arkona: Cape Arkona, the northernmost point of Rügen, with its two striking lighthouses—the older of which was built according to plans by the Prussian court architect Schinckel—the Slavic rampart, and the reconstructed observation tower, is a worthwhile destination for a day trip. In the fishing village of Vitt, just 2 km away, you can enjoy freshly smoked fish, still warm from the local coastal fishermen’s smokehouses. At the “Rügenhof” in Putgarten, typical island products such as ceramics, basketry, food, organic products, and more are offered for sale by local producers.
