Walk to NAU & Downtown - 2BR Historic Home w/ AC, Fireplace, Chef’s Kitchen
Rustic meets refined at The O'Leary House, a thoughtfully restored 1930s Flagstaff home in the heart of the historic Southside neighborhood. From here, you can walk to Northern Arizona University, downtown restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and local boutiques, all within 10-15 minutes on foot—then return home to the warmth and character of a classic mountain town cottage.
Guests consistently tell us they love the home's walkable location, exceptionally comfortable beds, cozy gas fireplace, and well-equipped kitchen. Whether you're visiting NAU, exploring downtown, hiking the surrounding forests, or heading to Arizona Snowbowl, The O'Leary House offers a convenient and inviting home base.
The home includes two bedrooms, one full bathroom, and one half bathroom. The two bedrooms are connected by a shared Jack-and-Jill bathroom, with access through either bedroom. Both the full bathroom and the separate powder room feature sliding barn-style doors rather than traditional hinged doors. Guests traveling as a group should review the photos carefully to ensure the layout provides the level of privacy they are seeking.
The kitchen is a favorite feature of many guests and includes a Viking gas range, quality cookware, high-end knives, a Vitamix blender, and a well-stocked coffee and tea station. The dining table seats four, making it easy to enjoy meals together at home.
The living room centers around a gas fireplace—perfect after a day on the trails or the ski slopes. During warmer months, air conditioning provides a welcome amenity not commonly found in many historic Flagstaff homes.
Outside, enjoy two inviting outdoor spaces. Sip coffee from an Adirondack chair on the front porch, or gather for outdoor dining under the string lights on the covered side porch, which seats four.
The bedrooms feature a Tempur-Pedic mattress in one room and a Nectar mattress in the other, along with quality linens selected for a restful night's sleep.
Upstairs, a small bonus loft offers a quiet place to read, work at the desk, or relax while looking out over the neighborhood treetops. Because the loft is tucked beneath the original roofline, it has low, sloped ceilings and experiences greater temperature fluctuations than the main level. It is intended as a supplemental space rather than a primary living or sleeping area.
Thoughtfully updated while preserving its original Riordan Mill wood floors, wood-clad ceilings, and historic character, The O'Leary House offers a distinctive Flagstaff experience rooted in walkability, craftsmanship, and a true sense of place.

About the host
Hosted by Shelby Klein
We’re experienced hosts who care deeply about creating spaces that feel calm, comfortable, and thoughtfully put together. We’ve designed this home to reflect what we personally value when we travel—cleanliness, quality materials, and a sense of ease.
We love Flagstaff for its seasons, access to nature, and walkable downtown, and we’re always happy to share recommendations to help you make the most of your stay.
Why they chose this property
This home is located in Flagstaff’s historic Southside neighborhood, one of the most walkable and connected areas in town. We chose this location for its proximity to Northern Arizona University and downtown—guests can easily walk to restaurants, coffee shops, and campus, while still being in a residential area.
It’s an ideal base for exploring Flagstaff, whether that means heading out to nearby trails, spending time downtown, or simply enjoying a slower pace for a few days.
What makes this property unique
This home was taken down to the studs and fully renovated as a true labor of love, with a focus on quality, functionality, and materials that stand the test of time. The design leans modern rustic—natural wood, warm finishes, and a cohesive palette—but the goal was never just aesthetics. It was to create a space that feels cozy and comfortable to live in.
Because the home was approached as a primary residence rather than a rental, it offers a level of thoughtfulness and ease that’s often missing from more standardized listings. As a guest, you’ll notice the difference in how the home functions day to day: spaces that flow naturally, plenty of space to settle in for a longer stay, and an overall sense of calm that comes from a well-designed environment.
