Older than we expected
Our family (mom, dad, 4 teenagers) stayed here in June 2024. We wished we knew the following things before we booked:
Bug control. We had to deal with so many bugs (spiders, ants, caterpillars, etc.) inside the house many times per day that it became a significant nuisance.
Cleanliness. The house was generally clean, but it didn’t seem to have been deep-cleaned in a while. There was dust, dirt, and spider webs in most of the corners, walls, baseboards, etc.
Kitchen supplies. The bowls, plates, cups, pots, pans, knives, etc., seemed to be what was left from what grandma bought new in the 70s. (That was how the whole house felt.) The kitchen is closed off from the rest of the house, so dinner doesn’t feel like a family affair.
Bedding. The bed upstairs is quite hard; small and few pillows provided.
Living room seating was old and needs replacing. The sheets draped over them don’t help. The couches felt 40 years old.
The window curtains were coming off the rod hangars.
The toilet in the bathroom upstairs is hard to use for a full grown man. It is squeezed into a small space where my knees didn’t fit. The upstairs shower is teeeeeeny tiny. The downstairs shower doesn’t have a wall nozzle (only a handheld) nor a shower curtain.
In all, expect a home that was furnished and setup in the 1970s or 80s and not updated since then. The pictures look very well done, but it’s much older than they show. Built in the 1800s, this could be a beautiful property with work.
