Absolutely wonderful stay! The home was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, responsive, and made us feel right at home. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing a mama bear and her two cubs—a truly unforgettable experience! We also enjoyed dinner at Chateau Morrisette Winery, both of which made our stay even more special. If you're looking for a peaceful mountain retreat with amazing hosts and plenty to see and do nearby, we highly recommend staying here. We would definitely love to come back!

The Barn was so comfortable and provided with everything you will need. The hosts, Nate & Chris, met us when we drove onto the property. The kitchen was well equipped, the living area very inviting, bedroom so comfortable and the bathroom so nice and clean. The view was beautiful and the area secluded. Curvy, mountainous roads to get to the property but worth the drive.

The hosts Nathan and Christine are the real deal and made us feel welcome and like we are old friends. Everything was perfect. We were completely comfortable our entire stay. My wife caught a huge fish. We were able to have a tour of the property and it was beautiful. There was plenty of deer to see and plenty of wild birds singing. It was a pleasure to stay here and we plan to return. Thanks to Nate and Christine for everything...The only negative I found was the couch was sprayed with fabreez and I'm a bit sensitive to it because of asthma. But It wasn't a big deal. Everything was fresh, new, and clean. Great Property and Wonderful Hosts. 5 out of 5 stars

If you are looking for a place that is warm and inviting. Quiet. Peaceful. Serene. This is where you need to go! Nate and Chris are two of the best people I have met in quite sometime. I felt like a friend the moment I drove on property. Their property is what you would imagine driving on the back roads of the Virginia country. I had the privilege of being their 1st guest after the renovation. I cannot say one bad thing about the barn. They are a duo that knows how to bring the vintage charm and modern together and have it fit together perfectly. Here is my two cents. If you are looking for a place as I just described, than book it. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

With our love of everything outdoors, old things, art and comfort, we want guests to have a quiet, relaxing and amazing get away they will never forget. We hadn’t planned on having a VRBO property, and when our Barn renovation hit the halfway point - and receiving much feedback from family and friends who were seeing the renovation move forward, we realized it would make sense to make this place a vacation rental property and share how special this area is with others. We love meeting others and hearing their stories and experiences and look forward to seeing you here.

Why they chose this property

Purchased in the fall of 2019, this is our dream property. We’ve always wanted to rehab the barn apartment, and it just took a little longer than planned. Meadows of Dan is a very special place with friendly locals, beautiful countryside and an amazing amount of wildlife. The folks are very proud and patriotic and be prepared to get the two finger wave from locals when you are on the side roads.

What makes this property unique

Our property is very unique and isolated. It is almost always windy and very quiet. You can sleep with the windows open and not be disturbed by dogs or traffic, but possibly an occasional coyote howl or our resident Geese that stop by every spring and raise their little ones.

We have purchased adjoining property as neighbors decided to sell off. This was to ensure there would never be other homes surrounding us. We’ve accumulated about 50 acres total of woods and pastures and guests are free to roam and explore as desired. As avid hunters, the absolute abundance of wildlife here sets this area apart from most places. Deer, bear, turkey, Bobcat and Coyotes are plentiful. Deer and turkey can be seen around the property on most days. While there are many bears in the area, they do not like the open pastures surrounding the barn, but we do see them occasionally in the timber or wandering around the pond. Bears are little to no threat unless they have cubs and are being harassed or feel threatened.

The two lane county roads surrounding us are great for bicycling or motorcycle rides. There are few straight aways or level ground, so an E-bike might be in order. With a ground elevation of 3200 feet, our temps are typically 10-12 degrees cooler than places like Greensboro, Raleigh or Mount Airy. We hope you come and enjoy all that Meadows of Dan Virginia and The Barn at Windy Ridge have to offer.
