Our family of five had a great week in Ocotal. Weather was amazing, Vanessa and Jorge helped organize fun adventures, and we loved Ocotal Beach. The snorkeling was excellent right off the beach. Coco Beach has lots of restaurants and is a quick but exciting 15 min drive. The condo pool was good but the one at Coco Beach Estates was nicer and had a gym. Having a bathroom for each bedroom was also nice. We had a few minor issues but Vanessa was quick to respond and resolve them. The condo itself is functional but not luxury.

Family vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect. We enjoyed the pool on site and at the club. Vanessa was helpful in securing a fishing charter that was AMAZING!

Great place close to the beach

We stayed 4 days and really enjoyed the easy access to a beautiful beach. The house was spacious and comfortable for our group of 6. Vanessa was very helpful with questions and recommendations. An overall very nice stay!

Amazing vacation

If you really want to enjoy the culture and locals of the island this is the place. We enjoyed the comfort and accommodations. it was home away from home. We were three couples that had our own bedrooms and baths. A car rental is a must. The gated community is very safe and close to nearby restaurants and activities.

Peaceful paradise

We loved the location of this property. We could walk to the beach in 5 minutes, and walk to the beachfront restaurant and bar in 5 minutes. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony listening to the howler monkeys and watching them roam through the trees.

Amazing Location!

This was an amazing place for our family to stay. It was extremely clean and beautiful. We really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony for coffee and reading while listening to the ocean waves. The beach was a leisurely 5 minute walk away and was a quiet mixed black and white sand with a fun tide pool to check out during low tide. Vanessa was very responsive with a wealth of local knowledge and contacts. We really enjoyed how quiet the community was yet was just a few minutes to shopping and activities at Coco Beach.

Absolutely Fantastic

A wonderful property. Excellent location. Vanessa had excellent communication with us the entire time. We had just gone through two previous cancellations by other hosts last minute, and were scrambling to find a place to stay. I can't say enough about Vanessa and her team. We look forward to staying here in the future! The location in Ocotol was great, close to the beach and Father Rooster's which is a fave of ours. Gated property, all the amenities, and the layout was great for us. Thank you Vanessa for looking after us so well, we look forward to our future friendship with you.

Location good. Beds were comfortable. Shower/bathrooms were clean and refreshing. Felt safe. Vanessa was helpful. Dishwasher needed repair/cleaning and needed dishwasher pods. Stuff provided was too soapy. Phone didn't work for local calls.

Ocotal

We really liked the quiet and relaxing vibe of this property. The pool was lovely and never busy. The beach was a short walk away and Father Roosters restaurant was also a short walk. From our front door we saw many birds, lizards, frogs and monkeys. The property was adequate and had air conditioning in each room which was nice. It is great to have a washer and dryer as well. We had lots of beach towels and some pool toys and a couple beach chairs. Vanessa was excellent and very helpful!

Inside The Property Very Dated

We paid for 7 night stay at Bernard's but choose not to stay. Initially walked in and the main floor bedroom smelled of urine. As noted in other reviews the pictures inside were outdated. The bedding in 3 rooms looked like your Grandma's basement bedding. As mentioned in the listing it was seaside and you could hear the ocean waves. Neither were correct or accurate. Hired an uber and stayed at a beautiful modern resort Mar playa Hermosa for the same money we paid not to stay at Bernard's.

Family Getaway

This property is in a decent location, just a short walk to the beach, although you can hear the ocean from the villa, the view form the villa is not desirable for me because you can't see the ocean because of the weeds and garbage drop off.. The listing says private pool and a TV in every bedroom, but there is no private pool and there was not a TV in every bedroom. We did have internet, but it is not high speed and we lost connection several times making it impossible to work from there!

Great location

We spent two weeks in Bernard’s home. The location is great, very short walk to Ocotal Beach. We visited other beaches but quickly learned that Ocotal Beach is one of the best the area has to offer. Bernard is very responsive and resolved issues quickly (the coffee maker was on its last leg, he had Vanessa purchase and deliver new one the next day, in fact Vanessa brought her own coffee maker until she could get the new one. Over the top! Although the cleanliness is not five star, the response and attention you get from Bernard and Vanessa makes it five stars! One has to remember that Costa Rica is a tropical country. Thank you Bernard.

Magnificent Oasis!

We rented Bernard’s villa for 3 weeks for our family Christmas holiday. We had a fantastic time. The gated community and property was excellent. The three pools were spectacular and the villa was exactly how it was portrayed in the listing. Bernard was a magnificent host and his property manager is the best we have ever had. We use VRBO all over the world so that is a huge compliment. Vanessa went above and beyond for us during our stay. She made us feel like family and answered our messages or questions immediately. My two sons and husband and I would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for all the amenities of home in a tropical setting. We loved our tours and the black sand beach was amazing. Costa Rica was a favourite destination but by far the accommodations and great service from Vanessa made our holiday one of the best holidays we have ever had. We highly recommend this villa to anyone who is looking for a quiet, safe and beautiful location to enjoy your time. Thank you Bernard and Vanessa we will be back!

Beautiful location

We enjoyed our stay in Bernard’s house very much. Father Rooster was steps away and the food was delicious and the atmosphere especially nice when they had the band and ceviche bar. Having access to the beach clubs was a huge plus and gave us variety in our pool/beach days. We appreciated the options quite a bit. Although we had some hiccups with driver pick ups, Vanessa was very responsive and offered to cover a cab to get us to the airbnb at no cost to us. We did find the photos to be a little out of date (linens aren’t white as pictured) and some new furniture that while functional doesn’t really fit the space that well. However these were minor things. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will probably visit Playa Ocotal again! Some honourable mentions for the cook at home chef option given to us by Vanessa. And we hired a boat captain through a travel agency called “my tan feet” named “Marcy” who was amazing. Saw whales, jumping devil rays, turtles, puffer fish , cool caves and more! All in all a great trip!

Guanacaste at it’s best.

Place is as advertised. About a football field’s distance from a quiet beach (Playa Ocotal) with wonderful, warm water and lovely views. Villa is as described. All amenities necessary were provided, including plenty of towels, beach chairs, and plenty of kitchenware to cook just about anything. The pool at the villa was quiet and the other individuals that were onsite were lovely people, so there was no reason to leave the gates to go to the other pools. We did not venture to the club because we had full schedules already planned. Truly, you could knit pick any place you stay, and find something not to your standards. But in my opinion, if you have an issue with this place it is either a one off, unfortunate circumstance, or its the renter Bernard was communicative and pleasant from start to finish, as was Vanessa. We did not require their services, but they made themselves known as available. It was an amazing week, and would absolutely stay at Bernard’s villa again. Coco was about seven minutes away and had plenty of restaurants. Several grocery stores. Locals are absolutely lovely

Dark, dirty, disgusting place

This place is not a "villa" - it's a rundown townhome that is filthy and has false advertising. There is no tennis, no gym. The "security gates" are rickety and don't open completely not great for wide cars. "Security" is one guy that walks around - no one at the actual gate. That's definitely not 24x7 security in an area that actually needs it. The pictures show a sunny home. It is literally dark, musty and filthy throughout the home. I have taken numerous photos of the issues and submitted to vrbo. This should not be rented as is due to potential health hazards from mold on the window shades, in the coffee maker, body odor and hair throughout all the bedding, mouse droppings on the headboard, improperly cleaned toilets, gum stuck on the one non plastic coffee mug, dirty utensils in the drawer along with cobwebs, old beach towels used as bath towels, the list goes on and on. This review should allow photos from renters to show what this actually looks like. The owner has done nothing except to call and say everything is fine. Nightmare scenario for vacation particularly for Xmas week. We evacuated after 1 night of our 7 night stay it was THAT BAD. There are plenty of other options in Costa Rica - we have been 4 times that are clean and safe. This isn't one of them.

Todo fue perfecto lo que nos prometió Vanesa aparte de qué se portó muy bien con nosotros todo lo que se nos prometió de la casa fue lo que se nos entregó todo estaba limpio todo estaba en orden en el acceso a la playa es perfecto el restaurant muy cerca y muy sabroso para nosotros fue excelente volveremos a ir claro que sí y lo recomiendo
