I would highly recommend staying at this property. We rented the cottage for Reunion weekend and had such a great time. The owner did an amazing job communicating and was very helpful. The location is great and the cottage is really well maintained. Thank you!
Our stay at The Ball Guest Cottage was fantastic! The house was impeccably clean and well-stocked with everything we needed. Janet was very accommodating and provided excellent communication. We can’t wait to come back!
Wonderful time spent close to the lake, a pier and all the trimmings! This is a perfect spot for two couples and up to four children. The kitchen was well stocked as was the washing machine and dryer area. We were steps from the lakeAnd we couldn’t of had a better time. thank you
It was the easiest and most positive experience to rent this property! Once I selected the house and processed the paiement, Janet ( the owner) quickly responded to my message . I prefer talking via phone and Janet called me right away.
The home is delightful in front of the lake. We made great memories!
We had a lovely weekend stay at this lake house! The lake itself is perfect, and it was so wonderful to have direct access. We brought our 18' speedboat and used the dock and boat lift during our stay. Worked out great! The owner was very responsive and helpful. The house is great, a perfect cottage for two families to share. The kitchen is well appointed and everything was clean and homey. The yard is shared with those in the other house, which was generally fine. There isn't complete privacy, but we were not concerned about it. Overall the stay was wonderful and we will definitely be returning here in the future!!
This is a lovely little cottage on the lake. Would be a wonderful place to rent if you had a boat. It is steps away from the water. The lake is sand and pebble bottom and was warm during our visit. Janet has two kayaks for guests to use-it is a fun way to see the beautiful homes on this lake. Janet is very amiable and great to work with. You can really tell she and her husband really love this family lake home.
Culver is a very interesting little town and Culver Academy is quite impressive. It was a very nice week.
This property is perfect for a family visit to Culver. The kitchen is modern and easy to cook in, as all the little things you need are there. Very well equipped cottage. The large lawn in front with the swing and hammocks is enjoyable. The larger house on the property, which I toured, is like a fairytale. Beautiful rooms that could be in a magazine. Just the perfect quintessential lake cottage.

Lovely Family Cottage
Our family had a wonderful week at the Ball Family Guest Cottage. Accommodations were very comfortable and the sunsets so beautiful. The hammocks near the water allowed for peaceful reading and we enjoyed the bonfire for Smores. Thank you for sharing your lovely cottage with our family.

Perfect Lake House Vacation
The main house and guest cottage share one of the most beautiful lots on the lake - perfectly flat with huge, old trees and an amazing view of the sunset from either patio. Unbeatable for boating, swimming, back yard bbq, sunset watching and star gazing. Short drive to Academy for visiting families. Classic lake house architecture and charm, friendly and responsive owner, historic neighborhood. Perfect place to make family memories.

Our stay was exceptional in every way.
The cottage is beautiful and the setting on the lake is stunning. We were there for four days and everything was beyond our expectations. The two downstairs bedrooms with adjoining baths were perfect for two couples and the kids stayed in the loft above. It was only a few minutes from the Culver Academies and the perfect location for my 50th reunion there. The hostess was responsive and helpful and everything about the cottage and our stay was outstanding.

Extended weekend
Our family stayed in the smaller cottage for a four night stay. It was one of the most relaxing long weekends we have had as a family! Highly recommend this cottage as a family gathering place.

Very clean and cozy!
It was very clean and cozy. It was also right on the lake with a nice pier. Plenty of parking . The property manager was great. Very efficient. The only thing they could do to make it better is add curtains or shades to the windows. Since the main house is only a few steps away and was loaded with people it seems that some privacy was missing. Otherwise, I would absolutely recommend this cottage.

Very nice home
Five of us stayed here for our 40th reunion as alumni from the Academy; two couples and one single. It's a very nice home, and very comfortable for six people; could hold more, but it's great for five or six. Very nice, recent bathrooms with great showers with loads of hot water from an endless tankless hot water heater. Very important when there are five or six people showering a couple of times per day. Nice fire pit on the patio facing the lake. Owners were very responsive to a minor issue and had repairmen on site in only a few hours who fixed the problem. Convenient location on East Shore Drive with three covered parking spaces. Highly recommend this to alumni coming to the Academy or anyone looking for a nice home to rent on a beautiful lake.

Beautiful Cottage
We enjoyed this beautiful, clean, spacious , well appointed cottage with direct access to the lake for 3 nights in August. They have water softener system which is amazing. Across the street from tennis courts and golf course, and biking distance to many wonderful restaurants.
I would recommend this rental to anyone and look forward to returning for another stay.

First-class
My wife and I and our kids shared this cottage with her sister and kids. We couldn't have asked for a better set up. It has a great yard for the kids to play and a the tire swing was a huge hit. The sunsets from the porch are absolutely amazing and it has the perfect sized bonfire pit for evening fires and smores. The owners could not have been more accommodating and were very attentive and responsive to questions throughout the process. The cottage was extremely clean and came with everything needed for a family traveling with kids and plenty of coffee for the parents! We definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to enjoy Lake Maxinkuckee and the town of Culver.

Absolutely Charming!
This charming cottage has it all. Our stay here put the cherry on top for our son's 2016 Culver graduation. If we didn't live in Houston, we would make the cottage an annual stop. Janet is a wonderful hostess and will do whatever is necessary to make your visit special.. Don't pass on this place! It's wonderful!

About the host
Hosted by Janet Ball Starkey
The property was first bought by our grandfather William C. Ball from Muncie, during WWII while my father William (Bill) Ball attended Culver Military Academy and my Aunt Lucina Ball Moxley mourned the lost of her first husband to the war. My siblings, Julie, Chip & John Ball and myself, Janet Ball Starkey, purchased the property in 2009 from our father who owned and maintained it for over 30 years. We all have a long history of wonderful memories growing up spending our summers at the lake.
Why they chose this property
My children along with my siblings children have also grown up with fond memories on the lake. I can honestly say all the cousins are more like brothers & sisters because of these lovely cottages that were provided for them during the Summers. It's been one of the most valuable times spent together with family I treasure dearly. I hope it would be so for your family & friends as well! By renting it out we hope to off set the costs to secure the cottages for the future generations of family
What makes this property unique
From the large lawn, you can walk straight out to the dock with no steps like many of the lake houses. Swimming is easy waste or chest deep at the end of the dock. Swing or nap in the lake side hammock & have a bonfire in the stone fire pit at night.
