Excellent location on a beautiful island. The neighbor did visit a few times which was unexpected and the owner does contact you frequently before your rental just so you are aware. Very nice house and the view is phenomenal.

Crowing about the Roost!!
We had a fantastic time staying at the Roost! This is a spacious and comfortable home with nice views all around! The beds are comfy and the kitchen is well stocked. We loved the hot water on demand feature! We played games, ate lobsters, cooked out on the grill and just hung out looking out at the water. We would recommend this place for your family!!

beautiful roost
it was lovely to share your land for the week. Foggy, cozy, big for family dinners, just away enough from town for some distance and close enough to run and grab butter. thank you
We chose The Roost because of the attractive rate, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the the space AND coziness, the seclusion within easy reach of everywhere we wanted to go, the quaint decor and wonderful beds, and the unforgettable view--always changing with the tides, the light, and the weather. The neighbors, representing the owner, were helpful, informative, and friendly. We would stay here again without hesitation.
The Roost offers a peaceful setting with beautiful water views. The house is comfortable and spacious, and the kitchen was well appointed. Ched is a great communicator and an excellent host. We will definitely consider staying at the Roost again.
Beautiful place with gorgeous views of a harbor. The house is spacious and comfortable and we had everything we needed. Ched called us before we arrived and sent us information ahead of time. We really loved our time on the island!
We had a great week, especially taking advantage of the farm next door to get fresh eggs and strawberries for strawberry omelettes. The house is perfectly situated with exquisite views and great kite flying
The Roost was great. It was everything we needed to have a wonderful week away to enjoy nature and each other. Such a beautiful setting, and very spacious and comfy home. Jane and Charles were great hosts, extremely helpful. Would love to go back!

Lovely Spacious Retreat
Vinahaven is such a magical place, quiet and beautiful featuring fresh lobster and two higher-end restaurants on the island. We stayed at The Roost for a wedding with other family members and found the location to be so pretty, looking down across lupine and beach roses to the ocean/cove. The house has many rooms and they are were nicely furnished, including sheets and bedding, not always the case when visiting an island home. There was a big TV for anyone wanting it (we rarely used it). I would definitely stay here again!

Fun at the Roost
My extended family was able to spend a wonderful week at the Roost last summer. It was a good place for two small families to use with interconnected rooms on one floor, entries in the back and front of the house, a spacious living room and deck, a well-equipped kitchen and a beautiful view of the water. We all love Vinalhaven, enjoying amazing quarries, a friendly little town with good eating spots and great Land Trust trails. This house is unique in its layout which makes it good for families. The owners are very accommodating and the neighbors are especially friendly and helpful!

Island Getaway!
The Roost was welcoming and clean, with well-chosen decor to give it charm. We loved waking up with views of the coast, morning mists, and the gulls. Out the back door and along Coop Road were bushes laden with blackberries for the picking. Exploring the many nature preserves on the island was great fun, and returning to the cozy living room a treat. time to soak up the view, read a good book with a cup of tea! Owners were most accessible for our questions, but house set up nicely for finding everything. We even loved standing above the lobster docks to watch the day's catch arrive. For the shopper in the family, there were unique places to explore, even a wonderful used book store! An interesting selection of restaurants in town also.
I would happily recommend this property, and the island experience it affords.

About the host
Hosted by Ched Evans
Ched and Jane Evans have been vacationing to Vinalhaven every summer since we married in 1982. Jane since 1953. This family tradition started in the 30;s when Jane's grandfather bought the Herman Estate. The farm was a summer retreat for his family. The pine paneled entrance room has a wall of historic photos.
Why they chose this property
Vinalhaven is an idyllic island that allows visitors to enjoy a relaxing vacation. The Roost sits on the edge of a meadow filled with lupine and has a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. Early risers can enjoy their cup of coffee and watch the sunrise from the sitting room or a spot on the deck.
If visitors enjoy the outdoors and exploring nature, there are several Nature Preserves that you can take advantage of. Hiking, sailing, and kayaking are all activities that can be enjoyed on the island. Excursions can also be organized ahead of time to see some of the wildlife that live in the surrounding area.
Saturdays you can head into town for a early breakfast and than enjoy the flea market near the open area by the church. There you can enjoy food, island crafts, fresh vegetables, and more. Vinalhaven is a place to relax and reconnect. We hope you enjoy this island as we have for many years.
What makes this property unique
This secluded home has easy access to the swimming quarries, village restaurants, hiking trails, offered by the amazing island of Vinalhaven, Yet the solitude of a sunrise can be enjoyed with the birds playing in the meadow. Sunbathing on the deck? That's always a priority for our oldest daughter. The heart beat slows and within a few days we are on "Island Time".
