Villa la Chaya is a splendid three-story, three bedroom beach retreat situated on a quiet block in the exclusive gated enclave of Playacar Fase I. This tropical oasis offers rare privacy as you step beyond the charming wooden gate set in a palm-fringed stone wall inspired by neighborhood Maya ruins. La Chaya is just steps from the best beach in Playa del Carmen – one of the most beautiful in the world. A blend of modern and traditional sensibilities, the home was designed to capture the Caribbean breeze with French doors and windows that invite the outside in.

The third floor master seduces with stunning sea views from both the bed and master veranda. The second floor bedrooms boast gorgeous green views and the gallery opens onto a terrace high in the trees overlooking the pool -- a great perch for sipping a cool drink and spotting the occasional spider monkey.

Cooking with the wide array of fresh, local ingredients available in Playa is a pleasure. The fully-equipped kitchen is complete with excellent cookbooks and opens onto its own patio for al fresco dining and barbecuing.

Stay in touch with high speed fiber optic WIFI throughout the house. Enjoy Netflix or Bluray on the 50' screen.

Stroll or ride a house bike to town though the verdant archeological parks of Fase I, one of which is at the top of the street. Playa del Carmen, long an international hub, is replete with world-class restaurants, nightlife and shopping. Super propriété

Merci à nos hôtes Steve et Jane. Les photos représentent bien la villa. Elle est situé à 2 minutes de marche de la plus belle section de plage de Playacar et à 15 minutes de Playa del Carmen dans un quartier très tranquille. Tout y est, cuisine très bien équipé, salon et chambres très confortable et une cours arrière magnifique. Chaises de plage, parasols et serviette inclus, il ne vous manque que vos maillots. Sergio, le concierge qui s'occupe de la propriété est toujours disponible et très accommodant. C'est aussi sans hésitation que nous retournerions à villa La Chaya.

Your ideal stay in Playa del Carmen starts here...

Villa La Chaya was the perfect place for our family's spring getaway trip. The house was beautiful and comfortable for family to spread out and enjoy. We love all the local art and great cook's kitchen. The pool, patios and outdoor terraces were great for sunning, reading or just looking out at the beautiful blue waters just a block away. Playa del Carmen is the ideal hub for organizing trips to all the features in the Riviera Maya / Yucatan. There were so many options but we decided on visits to the ruins at Tulum, the Gran Cenote, Turtle Sanctuary in Akumal, and snorkeling in Cozumel. All excursions were spectacular and were graciously organized with great advice and arrangements by Claudia the property manager as well as owners Steve and Jane Cutler. I also have to mention how great the food was in Playa del Carmen. We had great meals at Aguachiles and Mate 38 and then La Estrada in Tulum. We also enjoyed three unforgettable meals cooked for us at Villa La Chaya by Chef Anuar. What a treat! We look forward to returning at our first opportunity.

Living La Chaya Vida!!

We just returned home after an amazing 2 week family vacation at Villa La Chaya. The Villa is set in the most beautiful secret oasis in an already perfect area just on the edge of all the excitement of Playa del Carmen. Walking through the gate at Villa La Chaya we knew immediately that we had made the right decision. The beautifully landscaped pool and outdoor area lead you to the entrance of the villa. Inside the villa we were immediately impressed with the openness and beautiful relaxing decor. Once inside we got the full tour from the amazing house manager who showed us everything we needed to know to make the most of our time here. We took advantage of the option to have the kitchen and bar stocked before we arrived which is a great service. We love to cook and used the kitchen daily to make many memorable meals. Cocktails around the pool and barbecuing on the grill was also a nice treat. The main living area is open through all three floors of the villa with the most beautifully brick-domed ceiling at the top. The bedrooms are very bright with ceiling fans, air conditioning and really comfortable beds. The beach is just a short walk at the end of the street with lovely soft sand for lounging, swimming and walking. Taxis are plentiful, inexpensive and can be called for from the house phone. As much as we didn’t even want to leave the villa, Playa del Carmen is so much fun, great shopping and some truly amazing restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will definitely be looking forward to our next vacation at Villa La Chaya.

Beautiful Casa!

Great staff to help out with anything we needed, questions/transportation/Covid testing. The house is perfect for a large family, we had grandparents, teens and my husband and I. Most of the all inclusive resorts offer day passes, one day was nice for us, otherwise we preferred picking our own restaurants. Xel ha for the day was my favorite but kid loved xcaret. We didn’t have groceries delivered but we ordered Uber eats several times - very easy. We walked to town for most meals, my favorite was Tropical on 5th, I’m vegetarian so lots of choices. We did not have any issues with seaweed, the beach was clear of it. Playa car is very safe and secure. Definitely would come back

“La Chaya en La Playa”

What a wonderful experience. Couldn’t have asked for much more. Perfect location. Enjoyed the beach around the corner. Did a couple of dives at Reef Marina next door. Took a couple of day trips down to Tulum and visited a Seventh Wonder of the World at Chichen-Itsa. Osmi, our local host, was always a text away. We felt very comfortable and safe in Playacar Phase 1. The security guards were a hoot :) When considering a stay en La Playa, look no further than Casa La Chaya!!!! Thank you very much for wonderful memories!! The Falcon Family 🙏❤️🤘

What a beautiful home!

We just spent a week at this lovely villa in Playa Fase 1. The home is beautiful, tastefully decorated and does not want for anything. Staying here is like staying at the home of a good friend. It's warm and inviting and relaxing. It does not feel like a rental. Some notes on the main things: great wifi! Comfortable beds! plenty of hot water! Kitchen well stocked if you are a cook. If you want to venture out into the community, just call the gate. They'll send a taxi immediately. Or, you can ride the bikes that come with the house. Convenient to everything. After staying here we liked this location more than something directly on the beach. The house is shaded and secluded but very close to the beach. It is also private, which is something you won't have if you stay on the beach. The pool is not big, but it's 5 feet deep, so plenty deep for cooling off with the beverage of your choice. The only complain we would have has nothing to do with this perfect home. It's the saragassum on the beach. Do your research to make sure you understand what's there, when it is arriving, etc. There's not a lot of predictability to it, but it definitely changed the beach experience for us. We did other fun things like swim in cenotes, climb Mayan pyramids, and swim with whale sharks instead and had a great time. If we return to the area at any point in the future we would stay here without hesitation. Also, Steve Cutler was so helpful and welcoming. Thanks Steve! for a great week.

WONDERFUL

Villa La Chaya was wonderful. The location of the house is perfect for easy access to the beach and a 15 minute walk to la 5 Avenida. Wonderful that we had access to bikes and beach chairs. Damaris the clean lady is wonderful and Osmi took great care of us and was in continued communication. I would stay in this Villa again. (We loved the 4 cats that live on the property)

Elegant, cozy and spacious for a family of five with teenagers.

Beautiful spacious home, which was very important as it was unexpectedly rainy. The staff was there to assist us first by a driver greeting us at the airport and throughout the week. The outdoor area with pool and the home were kept clean throughout the week. Could not be happier with the home and staff, definitely rebooking for a second visit.

Beautiful home and perfectly located in Playa del Carmen

The home sits in a quiet and secure neighborhood a few moments walk from the best beach in Playa. The layout and the decor of the house is lovely, tasteful and calming. The balconies are a great feature, and in the evening when the waterfall and the lights come on, the pool and garden are a private oasis. The pool is in complete shade however all day long -- so if you have visions on laying out by the pool, this is not the house for you. The staff is very helpful and the location cannot be beat.

Perfection in Playa

We just returned from a wonderful vacation in Playa del Carmen at Villa La Chaya. The villa is perfectly located - literally about a minute from the beautiful white sandy beach and a 15 minute walk (we always took the beach route) to Playa's 5th avenue. The villa was spacious and impressively equipped - I am a keen cook and appreciated that the kitchen was furnished with good quality knives etc.. We were a family of 5 plus my son's girlfriend and there was plenty of space for everyone. The villa has a small pool which we appreciated in the evenings especially. The air conditioning was great (super important to us:)). The Cutler's were great to deal with and super helpful. I cannot recommend La Chaya too highly!

Stunning in every way

Great property manager. Every need was taken care of. Peaceful beautiful home, we felt safe and tucked away in the tropical lush landscape. Just around the corner was a beautiful beach. The home was well stocked and very private. The bikes were a great addition and we rode around playacar quite a bit, also into town to bring back broasted chicken....yummmy.

Location, location, location

Villa la Chaya lived up to all of our expectations! The home is decorated beautifully, its tranquil feel helps you get into vacation mode right away. Located in a beautiful gated neighborhood, with a less than a 5min walk to a great, non-crowded beach. If you want to head to Playa's popular 5th ave, you are only a 15 min walk or 4min cab ride away. We were able to prepare wonderful meals in the well equipped kitchen, and you can arrange to have meals prepared for you as well. Everything was so convenient. What a great location! Steve and Jane have done a great job making sure anything you need is right at your fingertips. Love this property, we can't wait to get back!

Beautiful, well maintained, sophisticated and decorated with attention to detail.

The house is two blocks away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. The neighbourhood is a gated community with a lot a beautiful homes. The house is very comfortable. The furniture and decor have been chosen with care giving a sense of comfort and beauty. The kitchen is very well equipped , better than what I have seen in rental homes in the past. This allowed us to cook delicious meals with ease. Claudia, the manager, is very professional, helpful and easy to reach in case you need help with something related to the property. The woman in charge of cleaning the house and changing linens and towels keeps everything sparkling clean. And last, but not least, the person who cooked for us prepared delicious breakfast and lunch. Our stay without such great food would not have been as pleasant. This property is so beautiful and in such great condition that we are definitely considering going back. We visit the area once a year and Villa La Chaya was a great gem to discover. Thank you Steve for creating such a beautiful place for travellers like us to enjoy.

Fun Family getaway

2 families flew into Cancun from Denver in late October. Ricardo (the driver) was waiting for us outside if the airport and took the 7 of us Villa La Chaya with a stop at the Walmart for food and liquor. What a perfect vacation home! The interior is beautifully decorated. The house is tucked away in a lush garden in a gated neighborhood just steps from the beach. The kids immediately jumped into the private pool. Here is a bonus.. You can watch the kids swim from the living room and relax in the air conditioning and watch satellite TV. Loved it! The house is stocked with all the utensils you might need to cook a meal, hang out at the beach, listen to your music, or just lounge around. Plus, we hired a private chef to cook us a meal at the house one evening. It was delicious and well worth it to dine in. The restaurants in Playa are great as well. It takes about 15 minutes to get to town by foot. We walked in numerous times with 3 kids under 9. They only complained a little. :) Just outside the main gate is a Hertz, we rented a van for a few days and went to Akumal to swim with the turtles. It was amazing. There is a welcoming committee of kitties who keep the bugs away and love attention and treats. The male kitty followed us to the beach one afternoon and watched us as we walked on the beach toward town. I would definitely recommend this house to anybody wanting to get away to the beautiful beaches of Playa Del Carmen. We had such a good time. Thanks Steve and Jane for renting us your beautiful home!

La Chaya the perfect Playa home base

I was lucky enough to stay at Villa La Chaya on a wonderful vacation/reuniting with college girl friends and their spouses. I see other reviews cover Ricardo he is perfect.From the charming front gate of La Chaya, to the perfect plunge pool, I found the decor so clean and calming, I wish I could have stayed more than the week. Beautiful, gardens, fabulous bed rooms, a block from the beach. I felt so safe everywhere we went. We all love to cook and found the fish market and grocery store, the well equipt kitchen was a pleasure to work in and the fresh seafood and fruit and veg were inspiring as ingredients. One night we had the grilled chickens that can be bought in town, it was delicious, and an easy alternative to going out. We did two day trips, one to Cozumel, we did rent a car there and drove to the beautiful far side of the island, we like to explore. The ferry price and the car were reasonable and all the vendors were friendly and gave us good information. Another day we rented a car and drove to the maya ruin Ek Balam, and stopped in the quaint town of Valladolid, where we had a wonderful lunch of local specialties. A bit of night life in town, the Cuban dance club is vibrant and fun to watch even if you don't dance. One friend bought a wonderful painting from an artist on the main drag. Everyday sunrise walks on the beach, a cooler of snacks and beer under the umbrella on the beach till sun set. Villa La Chaya, is the perfect setting,tropical outside, sleek and sophisticated interiors. In a development of beautiful homes. A quick walk to beach or into town, I highly recommend. Villa La Chaya is a Playa gem to be savored.

A great place to experience Playa

My family (kids 21 and 17) were met by Ricardo at the airport. He runs a car service recommended by the owners and is a great way to get there and back. There is a Hertz within walking distance for the one day we rented a car to go to Tulum. Loved the house and decor, the proximity to the beach and the quiet, safe streets. The beach is managed so that there are no vendors or salespeople to bother you. Very peacefull and a perfect beach for kids. The kitchen was great for preparing the wonderful produce available in town. Need another kilo of limes? of course you do! take a bike and run to the fruit shop, or stuff your backpack with some of the best grilled whole chickens I have had and bring them back still piping hot. You can chose your own adventure or just relax on the beach. This was our first trip to this part of Mexico and we will be back. If it is available, we will return to Villa la Chaya and would recommend it to you.

Wonderful Experience!

From the time that Ricardo picked us up at the till our departure we had a great time. Ricardo even took us grocery shopping on the way to the house. It was my wife, myself, 21 year old daughter and her friend. The girls felt very safe at the clubs and running about town. Very safe place. One block to a stunning beach that stretches for miles. Fifteen minute walk into town or take the bikes provided with the house. We very seldom went out to eat, as it was more fun to make wonderfully fresh meals in the well appointed kitchen. Great staff. Will return again.

Wonderful Family Vacation

My family stayed at La Chaya for a week in October. The home is beautiful, very clean, has all of the everyday essentials. The housekeeper, Jo was wonderful, keeping the home beautiful, she even did our laundry and for a family of 6 that is no small task. The gardener and the pool guy maintained the outdoor area every other day. Ricardo our driver to and from the airport was prompt and full of information about the area. Claudia, the property manager kept in regular contact with us, making sure that we had everything that we needed. Claudia arranged for a chef to come and cook us a meal one night which was absolutely fabulous. The beach is a block away. The beach has white sand, blue water that is 80 degrees. The beach is very shallow for a long ways out which was very nice for our 10, 7 and two 5 year old children. The market is probably a mile away the kids walked it with no problem. We visited xcaret while there, which is only a 10 minute taxi ride. Xcaret was very impressive, the whole family had fun. Our vacation was wonderful. Thank you Steve for being available and answering any questions that I had and thank you for your wonderful staff of people that maintain the beautiful La Chaya!!

Excellent house to rent

We really enjoyed our stay at La Chaya, the house is beautiful and very well kept and the location is perfect. You are 2 short blocks to the amazing beach that is between the hotels so it's very quiet and very close to downtown Playa/5th Ave. The house has everything you need to enjoy your stay including beach accessories, bikes to get around, BBQ, 50" TV and a private pool. Rent with confidence.

Winter escape from Des Moines, IA.

La Chaya was every bit of stunning! Never, have we felt so comfortable as we did while guest at this villa! The fresh local markets, golf courses, shopping, entertainment and international flare made this experience second to none when comparing to previous trips to Mexico. The private beach is exceptional with no vendors, booking agents or loud music so commonly found at the local resorts. Fabulous stay, amazing home and beach!

We stayed at the LaChaya in April while we were in the area for a work rewards trip. We had been at an all inclusive the first part of our stay and then moved to the beautiful gated beach community - Playa Car Phase 1. This was by far the high point of our visit. The home was spectacular! We have rented vaction homes before and this one was by far the best. It did not feel like a "rental" the decor and ammenities were fantastic and it truly felt like home. We were greeted with ice cold Mexican cervezas and limes in the fridge which we immediatly grabbed and walked down to the beach, which was undter 200 steps. The beach and sand was pristine and not crowded like the all inclusive. It was the most beautiful beach I have seen in my lifetime. Mellow waves, warm aqua marine blue water.... you could float out there all day! There were many options of actvities while we were there, the home came equipt with beach cruisers so we were a quick ride to get fresh grocery / seafood or just cruise through town. We walked the beach every morning for sunrise. It's a quick beach walk as well to town and all kinds of shopping/dining for everyone. The home had everything we needed from a gourmet kitchen, swimming pool to new TV ( netflix) which we only turned on once. I plan to return not only for a girls weekend but also to bring my children as this location and home is perfect for any occasion. Whether you want to hit the town and eat out or just chill on the beach, make dinner and have a few margaritas; it's a perfect getaway!

We were recently retired when we rented our house in 2014 for a vacation. We knew the neighborhood well having rented other properties for seven years. We fell in love with what was then called, Casa Rockstar and the FOR SALE sign posted outside the gate was impossible to ignore. We had flirted with the idea of owning in Fase One since our first vacation. That spring, the house became ours and assumed its new name, Villa la Chaya. We consider it a home and welcome you to our experience!

Why they chose this property

Villa la Chaya was originally built by a Mexican musician and his wife and the beautiful stone wall was designed by them for much needed privacy. There are many lovely homes in Fase One, but you'll find yourself on display in most. The many trees on the property provide habitat for a wide variety of birds and animals native to the peninsula. The house, though situated amongst palms and banyans, is bathed in beautiful sunlight inside and out. The skylit kitchen is bright and inviting for cooking and dining.

What makes this property unique

Because la Chaya is our south of the border home, we've decorated it as such. This is not a sterile rental property like many you can find in the area. The walls are adorned with art from renowned local artist Jacobo Roá and other artists. We are the third owners of the house and have taken special care to make it both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.

We have four beloved rescue cats who hang out on our patio. If you like cats, this is the place for you. We provide the food. If not, don't worry. Feeding is not required.

The swimming pool, while not huge, is deep and its organic shape is highlighted by a Yucatán stone waterfall that spills into the pool every evening at happy hour, making your cocktail just that much more refreshing.

What made us fall for our house? Everything. The perfect combo of lush tropical splendor, proximity to the sea, views of the sea from the master bedroom, the variety of outdoor areas to enjoy, the French doors, the boveda ceilings, that faux zebra rug that ties the room together, the weather. Too many things to name. We love it and hope you will too!
