About this property

Cedar Shake Cabin, with Artsy decor....Sleeps 3,

A mile and a half from the main campus of Wake Forest University and less than ten minutes from the vibrant downtown Winston Salem scene, you'll feel like you are in the mountains. A peaceful setting in a heavily wooded neighborhood gives you the best of both. Nearby you will find a public library, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian and American cuisine as well as the usual fast food.

It is a one bedroom house, with a day bed in the hallway. There is a step in shower with grab bars. Easy access. We have added a day bed in the pass through to the kitchen.
The Washer and Dryer are in the bathroom.

My husband and I stay in this house quite often as we rent out our larger home located just behind this one. Some of our personal belongings, clothing etc are in the house, but there is plenty of room for guest to be comfortable..

Cute place ... mostly junk store furnishings... but clean. Could not get the TV to work. Lighting through out could be much improved. Bathroom pretty funky ... had to hang a sheet over a big window that the neighbors looked directly in on. Nice neighborhood.

Great place to feel secluded

We loved being here. Nice to feel away from everything but still close to amenities. Everything was lovely and would return.

Came for a conference and stayed for the weekend

Easy drive to downtown made it convenient access to my conference. Husband and dog joined me for the week end. The cabin was comfy with everything one could need. Close to everything. Would book again in a heartbeat! Many thanks to our hosts!

Rustic, compact, well equipped

The cedar shake cabin is located in a quiet residential area. If you're on vacation, you will have to drive for any necessities, such as local shopping. For me, however, it's ideally located, less than a 5 minute walk from my son's house. Rustic is the operative word, both the exterior and interior. Much of the furniture is spartan, but completely usable. The property is advertised as sleeping 5 (I was alone), but I think 3 or 4 is the optimum number. I was there in the winter (the coldest spell in a couple of decades), and was happy to find that the heating system worked very well. The cabin is well appointed; you'll have virtually everything you'll need. Poke around, especially in the kitchen, so you know where everything is. (I didn't find the ironing board until I was leaving on the last day. It's behind the bedroom door.) The only thing I missed was a night light to help me navigate to the bathroom at night. The cabin has a large screen TV, and cable service with about 10 gazillion channels. There's WiFi, which I didn't try, but I'm sure it works fine. There are a lot of magazines scattered around, most having to do with architecture and interior design, probably an indication of the owner's interests. The kitchen has everything you would need: refrig, microwave, smooth top electric range, toaster (no toaster oven), dishwasher, cookware, and enough dishes and tableware for when your extended family from Pittsburgh visits. I couldn't figure out how to turn on the light above the range (it's built into the microwave, but the light switch has no effect). Bathroom has shower, washer, dryer, and a generous supply of towels. And then there's the deck. Plenty of furniture for enjoying the outdoors in the summer; there's a charcoal grill. The deck is accessible from inside, and from outside steps. It overlooks a small wooded patch; the owner reports that there have been several interesting wildlife sightings. I couldn't use it because of the weather. Maybe next time. In sum, you couldn't go wrong with this property. You'll be very comfortable and self-sufficient. Keep an eye out for the wildlife.

cute, clean and convenient

Perfect spot to stay for Wake Forest Univ. graduation! The back porch is wonderful; makes you feel like you are in the mountains, but you are only minutes from Wake. The cottage was comfortable, clean and convenient.

Peaceful

A charming and cozy cottage tucked away in the woods and yet so close to Winston amenities. My dogs loved romping in the backyard.

Clean, cute, quiet, comfortable

The cedar shake cottage is an idyllic getaway. Clean, cute, quiet and comfortable. It was the perfect spot to land while I looked for a house to buy in Winston. Located near everything you need, yet situated on a quiet wooded street with very little traffic.

Really enjoyed this cute little place!

This is a very cute place. For a one bedroom it is incredibly spacious. The bed was really comfortable, bathroom large. Laundry is a bonus even though we didn't need it this visit. Neighborhood is wooded and nice for walking your dog. We hope to come back sometime!

Great private location

Very cozy roomy cabin with everything I needed for a short stay. Pet friendly was a plus in a neighborhood where walking was easy. The cabin was very unique and comfortable - the owners were very helpful with making my visit perfect. I will stay here again when I return to the Winston-Salem area - highly recommend this adorable cabin! K. Davidson.

We loved the overall feel of the cottage with all the unique decor.

We were in town for a wedding and wanted to find someplace that would allow us to bring our dog. This cabin was perfect. Nice, quiet and secluded. Plus was fully stocked with anything we could ever need. I cooked many meals in the kitchen and everything I needed to prepare them was there. We would highly recommend this cabin.

Very quiant and peaceful!

Stayed one night at this cute little cabin. Very roomy and stocked well with everything we needed. Susan allowed a noon check-in and late check out at 1pm. We had our dog with us which was very accomodating. I took off one star because of the outside of the house. It was beautiful weather while we were there but the outside patio and surroundings were very dirty like they hadnt been cleaned since last summer and the coy/frog pond was loaded with leaves. Had to use towels to sit on chairs on back deck. That being said, the inside was comfortable and no problems inside. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Peaceful and Restful

This was a cozy cabin where we were close to many things, yet felt as if we were in the woods somewhere. There is privacy for two people, yet room for 3 others. The back deck was a bonus which is where we spent much of our time reading in the gorgeous fall weather and watching a family of baby squirrels playing in the trees. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped.

Love This Place!

Cabin is even nicer and larger than the pictures. The beds are very comfortable, kitchen extremely well equipped, internet, and everything else you might need. We loved the proximity to Wake Forest University and yet very quiet and beautiful setting. We really enjoy cooking our meals when we are away and having all the comforts as home and this place has it all.

Adorable

Perfect retreat for a getaway with our puppy. We had business in the area and needed a detached house so our crate-trained puppy wouldn't disturb a neighbor if he barked while we were away. The house was, clean, cute and just what we were hoping to find. The neighborhood was great for walks and the property was rustic and full of songbirds.

Wonderful home

We stayed at this adorable cottage for about 4 days in mid-October and loved it! The cottage has everything you need to feel at ease away from home. Our kids were comfortable on the pull-out couch at night, and especially enjoyed feeding the fish and hanging out on the back deck. Susan and her husband were very easy to reach and kindly accommodated us--even after I booked the wrong days and had to make a change! The neighborhood is so peaceful that you might not want to leave. I know that we'll definitely be back!

Why they chose this property

Charm and location.

What makes this property unique

Back porch has a view of woods and creek. You will feel like you are sitting at the edge of the woods. We have a frog pond that we are trying to get gold fish and koi to survive in.
Designer boho chic, make this property, fashionable yet very comfortable. We use this house as ours get away when our other larger home is rented out, so I am always tweaking it and making it a better place to stay. You will probably find something new here, not shown in photo that makes the property better.
Walkable quiet neighborhood. Safe area.
