Cottage with Huge Grassy Yard Fronting on All Sports Lake Chemung

The newly remodeled (2022) 'Market House' is the former owner's residence attached to the back of the historic Lake Chemung Market. It opens to an expansive and grassy backyard and the lake. The residence is completely separated from the market side of the building, and is exceptionally peaceful. The house offers beautiful views, lake/dock access, proximity to nearby activities like Mt. Brighton Ski Resort, golf clubs, antique stores, farmers markets, and the bustling historic towns of Brighton and Howell.

Lake Chemung is a deep, spring fed lake of 313 acres. Our location is one of the best spots for fishing on Lake Chemung in winter or summer.
The recently refurbished house offers a large living room great for entertaining, a huge bedroom and is fully outfitted for your stay on the lake.

The park like yard and house are perfect for a memorable lakeside wedding or other event. Please contact us for information on events.

Nice place to put our feet up and relax. Clean, updated and well stocked kitchen. Recommend this for a couple who would rather have a bit more space and privacy than hotel room will offer. Will definitely stay again if we get the chance!

Staycation during house renovations

We stayed at this property to be closer to our home so we could check on projects that were being done. We had our dog with us and he loves the lake. The place is very clean and just perfect for what we needed would recommend very highly.

We loved, loved, loved our stay over the holiday weekend. Great location and lovely time on the water. Peaceful and serene. Lots of room on the lawn and the deck to share some time with family. Great kitchen and well stocked for preparing any kind of meal. We look forward to next year!

The apartment/cottage was very clean and nicely decorated. The yard felt more like a park. A lot of room and the lake was right there. Lake water was clean and there is a small sandy beach right next to the dock. Couldn't ask for anything more. We had a good x. The fishing could have been better, but the summer heat took it's toll on it.

Cozy place

Cottage is very nice inside with a great kitchen and many windows facing the water. Due to the attached store there is a lot of people coming onto the property. Other than that it’s a lovely place to stay.

Nice place. A little odd, location, but would be great for someone who brings kayaks or a boat. Nice clean place with new shower and good kitchen. Some hiccups but nice people, low maintenance. Clear ahead exactly what is there and what you need/want. Quiet town, nice lake.

Perfect for us

Place was great space for a couple and our dog. Large unfen ed area for play . Inside looked like recent remodel/refresh and kitchenwas stocked with new dishes and silverware and bathroom had new towels. Host reaponded to questions and e erything worked so never really had to bother host after arrival. Great spot and likely a really great spot in summer with use of lake available. No probs here...its a recommend from us!

Wonderful little cottage

We loved staying here. It's behind a party store as they call them in Michigan (a convenience store), which I had some thoughts about initially regarding foot traffic and the like. But it was very quiet and peaceful. Really beautiful and clean. The lake view and very large grass lawn was awesome. My 7-year-old had a grand old time running around and dipping her toes in Lake Chemung. The inside of the cottage has been recently renovated, has a good layout, and was very comfortable. I hope we can stay here again next time. :)

We had a great time in this little house on the lake. Our girls loved being able to walk to the dock and wade in the water and try to catch a fish. We had a great stay and the owners were very accommodating for our family. Thank you for letting us stay and we hope to stay next time we visit.

the property was very smelly.

On opening the door I was assaulted by terrible cigar smell. I had come to Michigan to host my family at this lake ,as I do every year. When I called the property manager she said her cleaning person had told her this smell was there and had attempted to clean it out. Unfortunately, the smell was throughout all the fabric and carpeting. the manager said she would have a cleaning crew the next day. I asked to be moved to another property. It did not happen, she said she could not contact the property owner. I spent a smell ridden night with the windows open but even the curtains were smelly above the bed. The carpet cleaners arrived, I was expecting a disaster cleaning company with high powered fans, no just Stanley steamer. I left and when I returned they were finishing up, the water was being dispensed into the toilet. It was the color of strong coffee! It apparently had not been cleaned in quite awhile! Now the carpet was wet and the furniture was wet! And it smelled like wet cigars and wet dogs. Oh yes, the previous person had dogs too! I again asked to be moved and was put off again,.by the fact that the property owner could not be reached. the fans turned out to be 2 plastic very mediocre, flimsy fans. I opened all the windows,half did not have screens and put the fans on and went down to the lake. There were fishhooks, One was a small fish, with 6 hooks on it! and debris on the very small sand area and in the water. There was goose debris on the dock. I washed off the dock myself several times. I asked for a rake for the water and sand and they said they would have a boy do it. The boy raked a little patch of the sand and never touched the shallow water where my little grandchildren were coming to play.i As soon as she said she would move me, I repacked my clothes, but because of the cigar bar smell in the house, I had to re-wash all my clean clothes! The entrance door was off a parking lot, where the liquor store customers and the boaters coming from the lake come for their liquor. It was noisy all day and early in the morning there was a lot of banging at the wall the separated the house from the store. I told her the curtains really smelled and she provided me with laundry soap! fortunately my oldest granddaughter is tall and she removed all the curtains and washed them and she rehung them. The only reason I stayed was she kept telling me she had a larger nicer house for me. Only men cigars would like this . NOT GOOD FOR FAMILY

Darling place in a great location!

We had a wonderful stay. The apartment is beautifully finished, comfortable, spacious & was ideally located just a $5 Uber ride to downtown or the River Arts District. Highly recommend!

Very Pleasant

The Market cottage was a very pleasant place to stay. Loved the Lake and the views. We spent five weeks there and would recommend to others. However, being there 5 weeks the furniture wasn't comfortable. I would need new living room furniture for an extended stay. The cottage did need updating inside but the furniture was mostly needed. Diana was very pleasant and attended too our needs. The store was great being so close for a ice cream or beverage for the evening. The Market cottage would be a great weekend get away. Great experience

A very good rental experience. We had some concern in advance due to the proximity of the party store, but were pleasantly surprised at the privacy and convenience. This is a good unit for entertaining family due to the large living room and fully equipped kitchen. We would certainly rent this unit again. There is a small daybed as well for overnight guests.
