Ask a questionAbout Frank Symington
I've lived in many US states working in research until I became primary caregiver for two infant daughters and moved to Wyoming in the '90s. After periods teaching science and operating a forestry business, I retired and moved to France to reunite with a college chère amie. These days I regularly visit Mountain Shangri-La to savor its splendors, connect with Nature, and grow closer to loved ones.
Frank Symington purchased this cabin in 2000
Why Frank Symington chose Dubois
Before finding Mountain Shangri-La, I visited half a dozen Wyoming communities within a few hours drive from my home in Rock Springs. Dubois had it all. It's a jewel with rustic, creative, and natural charm. The area's mountains, badlands, and river systems are irresistible. Since then, land and property values have risen sharply, but my place there is buffered by its location and land ownership in the area.
What makes this cabin unique
Please see reviewer comments--this place offers incomparable views. Enjoy a kaleidoscope of rugged peaks, verdant valleys, painted badlands, and monumental swathes of forest with ever-changing perspectives as weather and lighting turn the dial to show new, unique panoramas. At night, dark starry skies present spectacular views of the heavens, meteor showers, and sometimes colorful Northern Lights. On-site porta-beds and chairs let you conveniently settle out in the meadow, snuggle under blankets with binoculars, and thrill to celestial sights unique to this environment. The property is secluded and very private--no drive-by traffic--and with its ~50 acres bordering Shoshone National Forest, it's expansive. You can roam forever. Wildlife abounds, with elk, deer, and moose making appearances in the large meadow in front of the cabin, and all manner of song birds and other mammals spending time within sight of the place through much of the year. The cabin has lots of classic Western charm and an eclectic library for PC-weary readers who want to savor the vanishing luxury of dozing in a gently swinging hammock, book at hand. Games, cards, puzzles, and objects of interest give you and your family lots to explore and to do together when you're inside, and the open layout with its dining, kitchen, and living room areas promotes casual exchange among those in your party.
