The property was in great shape. It had many excellent attributes like updated kitchen features, comfortable living room, the bedrooms were restful, house was clean, and the wifi was strong. Our family truly enjoyed staying there. Our next visit will be during a snowy season, like January or February, so we can built a snowman and have snowball fights. Ron was a great & friendly host who responded quickly to our questions and requests.
A great place to stay, the architecture and foliage amazing. As a fan of Eastern philosophy and aesthetics, the decor was welcoming and peaceful. We will be back!
Gorgeous views from this secluded getaway in the mountains north of Taos! Awesome property close to Taos city center, artsy community of Arroyo Seco andTaos Ski Valley. Our 6 person family group cooked gourmet dinners in the beautiful, well equipped kitchen— what a delightful surprise! Windsor Castle was our home away from home for a week and we loved every minute of our time there❣️ Thanks for your hospitality, Ron!!

Wonderful!!!
What a great vacation! This house is perfect for all ages and multiple families. The location is ideal sitting between skiing, shopping, and eating. The layout is great and the house is more beautiful than the pictures show. Nothing like sitting in a hot tub with amazing views after a long day of skiing. Can't wait to go back!!!!

Stayed 1 week as a party of 4 people and 1 dog. This is a fabulous spot, great views of the mountains, can walk to extensive hiking trails just up the road, with the Ski Valley being a short 15 minute drive. The house is spacious and lovely, with large sitting areas outside that are protected from sun and rain. Ron is a wonderfully attentive and responsive host. We have been here several times, and it has always been the nicest vacation rental experience we have had in the Taos area.

Peter and family are the best guests one can ask for! The house was left spotless and they were always thankful of what Taos, the home, and the local people have to offer! I can only hope they don't stop coming to the castle for many more years, for their summer vacation. And yes ,Winsor Castle and ski retreat, is also your best bet for a cool summer experience , hiking, fishing, close local resturaunts , star watcing, rafting etc!

Spacious and luxurious, perfect location between town and skiing
Winsor Castle was a delightful place for our large group’s ski retreat, with many thoughtful amenities and breathtaking views. The panoramic views of the mountains and canyon combined with the lush indoor greenery and abundant sun give the house an unforgettable character. The hot tub was a treat after a long day skiing, and the kitchen is the best equipped I’ve ever seen in a vacation house. Taos Ski Valley is an easy quick drive, and the restaurants and shopping in Taos are likewise not far. Ron really reflects the friendly hospitality we found everywhere in Taos!

Christine and friends stay make this job worthwhile.I'm so glad they had a great time.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property is very private and spacious. You will need all wheel drive if roads are bad as it’s a trek to the house.
The home is well stocked with needed supplies in the kitchen for cooking your own meals and much appreciated that!
There is an indoor garden which is lovely and relaxing but if you have small children then might not be ideal.
We appreciated that Ron allowed our two small dogs to stay with us!
We would definitely stay again! Thanks for hosting us!
Such a fun house! We were so pleasantly surprised at how amazing it was. The pictures don’t do it justice. It’s clean, it’s bright and refreshing inside. The hot tub is amazing and huge. The kitchen is VERY well stocked. Plenty of bath towels and hot tub towels to go around. Shower in the steam shower or bathe in a tub with a view! Ron is a SUPERHOST, and was available whenever we needed him. Contact him directly and he will get back with you!! Thank you so much Ron for your awesome home and always being available for us. We will recommend this place a thousand times over! We definitely recommend Windsor Castle!

Great vacation and ski home near Taos Ski Valley
This place is awseome. This is not your typical ski home. It is so much more. This is a ‘full’ house with all the New Mexico charm that is often lost with other places. The walls are incredibly thick, saltillo tile throughout and all items are customized from the doors to the cabinets. The overall size of the home, each room and the kitchen (a chef's kitchen) are great. The master is really huge and the integration of a garden area, within the living areas, is unique to the location. The views are expansive and beautiful and even better from the hot tub. Our dogs were happy as can be and the owner made us all feel welcomed at all stages of our stay. This home would be great for a peaceful getaway or a place to throw a wedding. In terms of skiing at Taos Ski Valley - the location worked great. We were a large group and having the entrance/mud room was perfect. Unless you are staying where no car is needed (walking distance to slopes) this home only adds about 10 minutes of time in the car compared to renting a home across from the mountain - the size, comfort and value are well worth it.

Not so good
Here goes. We rent a house every year for a week of skiing at Taos and have had only great experiences. but this was different unfortunately. Although the property and house were very nice, the 4th bedroom was literally a windowless closet. When we arrived after a long travel day from both east and west coasts, the hot tub wasn't warm. no big deal but we mentioned it to Ron. The kitchen is nice, but lacked any sharp knives so we asked Ron if we could borrow a sharp knife. After these exchanges, Ron called us back at perhaps 10:30 at night after we had all gone to sleep. He left a long angry rambling message about what bad people we were for mentioning the hot tub and for asking for a sharp knife. On the message he told us to find another place to rent (we stayed). The sking was great so this didn't effect our vacation, but we won'y stay there again and can't recommend it.

Liked: Check-in, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
nice large home but....
While the home is overall nice, my main issue was that the post says there is AC. I specifically messaged the host to confirm and he said, yes, central AC. There is no AC of any kind whatsoever.
There was no instruction on how to gain entry to the home. We arrived very late at night and I was slightly panicked that we wouldn't be able to get in I was able to call him and he said the door was just open. There was no communication beforehand about that.
There was dust all over the surfaces, but the windows were open, and I guess Taos is just dusty?
The yard is very nice and was great for our dog. But we found a butcher knife and a paring knife lying on the ground outside the master window.
There were good things. The bed is comfortable, the house is private. It could have been nice excewpt for the unfortunate downsides and the lie about the AC. That pretty much started us out with a very negative attitute.
When I tried to ask about the AC on the 1st day of our stay - he never responded.

There are air conditioners in all bedrooms, they are typically installed July 1st - October 1st, which I have added to the details, but the listing details did state that the A/C units were "portable," not central. When asked if there was real air conditioning or evaporative cooling, I told him it was real, but they wouldn't be needed, as temperatures drop to less than 45 degrees at night and stay below 70 degrees during the day and his response was "you're probably right. I won't need the air conditioning." I left on a trip, since the house was being rented and was out of service- there is another number to contact for emergencies on my profile and they were not contacted, so unfortunately this couldn't be fixed during their stay. As for entry into the unit, I did call the day of check-in and was told he'd be arriving at midnight - I told him the door would be open, as I've told every other guest. Glad their dog enjoyed the yard, which I spend endless hours pruning and caring for and sometimes leave tools out. I will point that I did have to ask for the $100 pet fee, which should have initially been paid, but appreciate the back payment. Will keep your critiques in mind. Enjoy the rest of your travels.
My family stayed here for our annual ski week and I will never be back, nor recommend this property to anyone. First off, getting to this property in the winter is dangerous. It's like going up and down back alley hills that are muddy and covered with ice and snow. Our son's van could not make it, and two of our front wheel drives barely made it. Only the AWD made it ok.
Second the house has been decorated and is being maintained by a guy who shops at garage sales. It is a mess. Things don't work like lights missing bulbs, bulbs out, TV doesn't work, thermostats not functional, etc. many more things. For the price I paid for this place it was a total disappointment. There is a ceiling fan that does not work and has a plant tied to it with yarn. Total wreck. There is also an interior garden which makes the place smell like wet potting soil. And there is a live frog living in there that would make noise at night.
Third, the kitchen is so poorly stocked and supplied. Not even a cookie sheet in there. There were very few basic staple. If you ignore this review, you better bring everything you want in the kitchen.
Forth, the owner was absolutely unresponsive. I send him VRBO messages and left voicemails and never received one response. He showed up at the house when our first car arrived and never communicated again.
The views from this house are amazing, but that's about it. I can't say it enough, find another property this one is not worth it.
You've been warned.

I gave bob 5 star rating before I read his untruthfull review . I never heard from him once, so I thought they were enjoying their stay. That was his first lie. Secondly, some mud&snow tires would have helped that bash. The 2wheel dr cars with bald highway tires almost did'nt make it, but they did!His sons van 1/2 the size of a ups truck with street tires could not have made it to the ski area with any snow on the road. I spent about a half an hour, ten days after I broke my ankle,20degrees and snowing, trying to tow it up to the house.I was crawling around on hands and knees hooking up the tow strap. I guess my advice about mud and snow tires on 2 wheel dr cars,4x4 recomended for inexperienced winter drivers,on the web site, did'nt get shared with the kids. I sent his son to the ski valley shutle parking lot a couple miles away where there was good cell reception,as big bob was on the way. I gave my usual instructions to the five kids,on how everything works at the house and never heard from.. him or them again. A couple weeks later a sweet lady ,and future guest e mailed me asking if she needed to bring a frying pan and a pot so they could at least cook a steak for dinner and make breakfast . I told her the story behind his review and how there was a gourmet kitchen with everything one could need to cook and serve a meal for15 people, lies, lies lies. There might not have been a cooky sheet, but there was enough pirex baking dishes and stainless steel baking pans to cook 30 cookies at a time,, the tvs worked fine, there is a thermostat in every room and most people love the indoor tropical greenhouse , the in floor heating . I guess thats why The castle has about 120 , . 5 star reviews over the last 8 years! I pray that you never have to deal with the likes of him in your castle!
Gorgeous setting with 270 degree views including sunrise and sunset, and the house is higher-end than we expected. Ron/owner is available and caring- he made sure we were ok in snowstorm.
My family of 6 had a loveky time here. 4 bedrooms (one small) in a well equipped kitchen and jsimpky beautiful surroundings, inside and out. The view is gorgeous and I-honestly felt might self lucky to have a whole day at the house with our toddler while the rest of my family skiied. The indoor greenhouses were magic; those and the decor were so beautiful and comforting, my husband and I are already thinking of trying to come back. Thank you Ron!

About the host
Hosted by RON WINSOR
I've lived in Taos for 35 years. Avid outdoorsmen, expert skier (private lessons and TSV mountain guiding available upon request), ultralight pilot, and am offering sunrise flights out over the Taos Gorge and Tres Piedras. Love to meet new people. The house I live in is close by, a few hundred yards away and I will be available for anything you might need during your stay.
Why they chose this property
Best views in area! Quiet and private - lots of lawns for kids to run around on, hot tub with spectacular views to relax in. Hiking and biking routes available right from property. Watch storms roll in and enjoy them from inside, looking out through the greenroom. It's majestic.
What makes this property unique
I designed and built this home in 2004-05. Passive solar house will keep you cozy throughout the day without having to blast the heat! Also, radiant floor heating will keep your toes warm throughout the house :) Where else can you hang out in a jungle in your living room? Watch weather form across the mesa from the hot tub, or hammocks. Grill out on the patio and enjoy the sunset! There's nothing quite like it.
