About this property
The Fishin' Hole In Valley Of The Pines Red River
The town of Red River is located in the middle of the Carson National Forest with hiking trails leading, among other places, up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. The Red River Ski Area offers snow skiing and snowboarding beginning on the Thanksgiving holidays and continuing through Spring Break. Even when the natural snow is not as plentiful, the Red River Ski Area has the best snow-making in the state of New Mexico. Red River is just a fun town and is great for families. The town has wonderful shopping and galleries, nice restaurants, and even places to two-step.
The Fishin’ Hole is nestled in the Valley of the Pines just 3 miles outside of Red River. This quaint, three bedrooms, two bath cabin sleeps 8, has a full-size kitchen, wood-burning fireplace and washer and dryer. Two bedrooms each with queen beds are on the first floor, while the upstairs has another queen bed and a double in separate areas. The best “room”, however, is the new deck out back that overlooks the Red River that flows just 20 feet from the back door. The sound of the river is soothing to the soul, and the excellent fishing will provide the freshest, rainbow trout dinner around! The river is stocked in the summer months, and this location on the river is ideal for a good catch! Fishing not your thing? Art lovers will enjoy the numerous art galleries in both Red River and Taos, just 40 minutes away. Music lovers will find plenty of venues, hikers plenty of trails, and horse lovers trails to ride. Shoppers can park at one end of the town and stroll through the many, cute shops, stopping for a bite to eat at any corner. In the center of town is the Red River Community House, built in 1940. For generations, vacationers have returned to this spot for traditions all ages have loved, such as line-dancing, two stepping, guided hikes, boat-building for kids, movies on the lawn, and, best of all, endless egg tosses for all on the 4th of July.
Throughout the year you will have great fun watching the torchlight parade during ski season, enjoy Mardi Gras in the Mountains during February, the Fine Art and Wine Festival in June, the 4th of July Parade, the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Nights celebration in August, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival in September, and Oktoberfest in October.
This cozy cabin is a little bit of heaven located high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s sure to bring joy to all ages. If you want to venture beyond Red River, Angel Fire, with a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, is about an hour away in Taos and 2 hours from Santa Fe, with its shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Come refresh you soul at the Fishin’ Hole!

About the host
Hosted by Spence & Debbie Von Strohe

We have a cabin next door to the Fishin Hole. Our family loves this area for many reasons, but the #1 reason is the peaceful sound of the river. My wife has come every year to Red River for over 50 years. Red River is a great family place with a lot to do or you can sit next to the river with nothing to do?
Why they chose this property
This would be a very long story to tell in this small space. To summarize our long story - I had a dream at friends funeral when I was 28: I was walking down a mountain road towards a beautiful older women, to my surprise it was a girl I was dating. I knew then we would grow old together on Valley of the pine rd & we have.
