Cottage situated in quiet hamlet deep in countryside but only 10km from the sea.

Are you looking for a quiet country cottage for a holiday near the sea with young children or on your own? What about discovering the Val de Saire in the Cotentin where you will find activities and enjoyment for all ages and tastes.
Our little semi-detached cottage, part of an old stone building recently renovated, is fresh and modern inside and very comfortable. It is set in a small valley surrounded by farms and country tracks for easy walking. Children are safe and guests have access to 50sq.m. part of an English style garden looking over the owners' private part, entirely enviromentaly friendly This enables visitors to enjoy a lovely garden surrounded by fields with cows and sheep as neighbours. Garden furniture and a barbeque are supplied.
The cottage has a 23sq.m sitting room including a very well equiped kitchen and dining area. Two small bedrooms, shower room and separate WC leading onto a large light landing. The cottage faces east-west and the garden at the back is well protected.
There are plenty of sporting activities, walking, riding, sailing,swimming, windsurfing, fishing. Children enjoy climbing the lighthouse, animal park, rock fishing for shrimps, cockles and mussels, beaches, Cité de la Mer. There is a buzzing fishing port and marina in St Vaast La Hougue 4 km away, and Barfleur with its unique tidal harbour only 10km away. The cottage is 35 minutes drive from the ferry port in Cherbourg and 1 hour 15 minutes from Caen. It is within easy driving distance from the DDay landing beaches, Mont St. Michel and the Bayeux Tapestry amongst many other interesting sites.
The nearest town, Quettehou, is 5 minutes drive away and visitors will find a big supermarket as well as local shops and a weekly market.

We loved everything. Caroline made us feel very welcome, there were vegetables from the garden, flowers and homemade jam for us, when we arrived. The cottage is has been furnished stylishly and with an artistic eye, the garden is wonderful too. Caroline and Georges recommended their favourite beach and great cafés. It was as quiet as we had hoped, but still near to lively places. Our dog just loved the garden. We hope to come back!

Perfect summer holiday

This is a place where we immediately felt at home. Caroline and Georges are lovely hosts who made sure that we felt comfortable at all times. The house provides everything we needed as a family. We loved the great garden and the quietness of nature. There are so many things and places to explore on the Cotentin that we have to come again. Spending time here means to dive into the Normandie.

Calme mais proche de plein de choses à voir/faire

Un véritable petit coin de paradis dans le Cotentin ! Le cottage est aménagé avec énormément de goût, alliant confort et charme. Le jardin, magnifique et parfaitement entretenu, invite à la détente. Les propriétaires sont adorables et leurs conseils avisés nous ont permis de découvrir des pépites locales et de profiter pleinement de notre séjour. Le cadre est idéal pour venir avec un chien : de superbes boucles de randonnée démarrent directement depuis l'hébergement. Le hameau est d’un calme reposant, tout en étant proche des commerces et des sites à visiter.Et pour les enfants, c’était également parfait : une superbe plage de sable, quasi déserte et connue seulement des locaux, se trouve à proximité. Un endroit rêvé pour profiter de la mer en toute tranquillité et sécurité. Une adresse à recommander les yeux fermés, pour petits et grands !

Herzlichkeit und Entspannung pur

Vom Empfang bis zur Abreise fühlten wir uns gut aufgehoben. Begonnen mit einem herzlichen Empfang, über das liebevoll eingerichtete Haus, den wundervollen Garten bis zu den - nicht selbstverständlichen - Kleinigkeiten wie kleine Blumensträuße und Gemüse, die wir ab und zu vor der Haustür fanden, bis hin zu den netten Gesprächen mit unseren Gastgebern war alles perfekt. Die Unterkunft ist nicht nur für Hundebesitzer ein Traum. Wir haben uns bewusst für die Lage abseits vom Trubel entschieden; mit dem Auto war alles, was man brauchte in wenigen Minuten zu erreichen. Ein zweiter Aufenthalt ist auf keinen Fall ausgeschlossen, sondern sehr wahrscheinlich.

Séjour à Joulines

Un gîte a recommander !!! Des hôtes très accueillants et sympathiques .De plus le jardin à l'anglaise du gîte est magnifique, plein d'odeurs et de variétés florales. Les hôtes partagent leurs légumes et fleurs !!! Joulines est un endroit calme, verdoyant, vallonné propice aux ballades, et proche de la mer. C'est un pied à terre pour visiter les lieux mémoriels du Débarquement par exemple.

Schöne Zeit

Das Haus liegt ein wenig versteckt, aber in sehr schönen abgeschiedenen Lage bei einem traumhaften Garten. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und bemüht alles zum besten zu richten. Bäcker und Supermarkt sind mit dem Auto in 10 Minuten erreichbar, der nächste Strand in 15 Minuten. Barfleur 15 Autominuten entfernt ist ein Traum....

Wunderschöner Urlaub in einem französischen Cottage

Wir hatten einen unvergesslichen Urlaub bei Caroline und George. Beide sind aufmerksame und hilfsbereite Gastgeber, mit vielen guten Tips und Vorschlägen! Wir haben uns wie zu Hause gefühlt und wären so gerne noch länger als drei Wochen geblieben. La Pernelle ist ein schöner, kleiner Ort mit viel Natur, tollen Stränden und netten Leuten. Wir kommen unbedingt wieder!

Gîte enchanteur

Magie et poésie sont les premiers mots qui viennent à l'esprit pour définir ce lieu de quiétude et de beauté. …wunderschönes Cottage

Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und waren von Anfang an bemüht, dass wir das Cottage auch direkt finden, denn via Navi nicht machbar. Natur pur, toller Garten (den wir aufgrund der Jahreszeit und des Regens leider nicht nutzen konnten), es gibt jede Menge Bücher, aber auch Spiele, die einen Regentag verschönen können. Wir haben uns gut erholt und auch viel Sehenswertes mit nach Hause genommen. Die kleinen Küstenorte sind sehr schön für Ausflüge (Barfleur als Beispiel), der Aussichtspunkt in La Pernelle bietet bei tollem Wetter ein tolles Panorama - Kartenmaterial und Tipps aus den Handbüchern der Vermieter bereichern den Aufenthalt. Fangfrischen Fisch kann man in kleinen Restaurants genießen. Der D-Day (Utah-Beach, La Batterie in Azeville und Crisbecq etc.) ist natürlich sehr präsent und stimmt nachdenklich.. Auf dem Heimweg haben wir das Gräberfeld des Soldatenfriedhofes in Orglandes besucht…

A fantastic week away in Normandy, wonderful hosts, dream cottage, everything we could have wanted.

An absolutely superb destination for a family holiday. The cottage was perfect , it was beautifully presented, light and more spacious than expected. I like to cook and can honestly say that the kitchen was very well equipped to make delicious meals from the superb local markets. Plenty of local beaches and harbours to visit and the kindest most pleasant hosts …a perfect week .

Traditionelle Ferienwohnung in der Normandie

Die Wohnung war einfach, aber sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, das Bad leider so klein, dass man es mir einzeln betreten konnte und sich darin aufgrund des fehlenden Platzes nicht föhnen konnte. Insgesamt war es eine saubere und gemütliche Wohnung mit sehr zuvorkommenden Gastgebern, die nebenan wohnen. Wir würden trotz der kleinen Wohnfläche wieder hinfahren.

Superbe et reposant!

Merci à Caroline et son mari pour ce beau séjour dans un endroit charmant. La maison est confortable et très jolie. Le jardin et la proximité d’une ferme ont fait la joie des enfants ainsi que les plages très proches. L’accueil et les échanges ont été très chaleureux malgré la période covid! Nous reviendrons !

Un séjour dépaysant et sympathique...

Très bon accueil de Caroline et Georges toujours plein d'attentions pour leurs hôtes. La maison style cottage anglais ainsi que le jardin sont très agréables, on s'y sent bien après les balades sur la côte ou dans les beaux villages. Région chargée d'histoire et de manoirs et jardins qui étaient malheureusement fermés. Nous reviendrons donc !

I am English and my husband is French. The cottage that we let is part of our old stone Normandy house where we have lived for nearly 25 years. Georges is now retired from a long teaching career as a French language teacher abroad and as a primary school teacher in Normandy. I have always worked with textiles and have taught patchwork and quilting classes as well as creative textiles. We both enjoy time working on our creative projects - Georges being a water-colour painter.
I love my garden where I work on a regular basis. The vegetable garden supplies us with organic produce which I am willing to share with our guests when possible. The garden is totally chemical free.
We walk on a daily basis in the different country tracks which surround our house and criss-cross the whole valley. There is a wonderful coast-line with long sandy beaches, broken from time to time with rocks and rock pools.
The excellent local sea food (oysters, fish, shell-fish etc) as well as local meat and fruit and vegetables give us a varied and healthy diet easily sourced and a well-equipped kitchen enables guests to return from the market and prepare delicious meals and, in the summer time, eat outside.

Why they chose this property

We came to live in Normandy and found our house in what we consider an ideal spot, when Georges obtained a post as a primary school teacher in Quettehou, the nearby town. We were very taken with the countryside around the house as it has not been spoiled. Small fields with hedges, pasture for sheep and cows and horses, plenty of bird and animal life. The sea is only a few kilometers away and the long coast line running round the peninsular gives us varied and beautiful walks and places to swim or fish. We did not hesitate to settle in the little hamlet of Joulines with its 2 farms and a handful of houses. It remains a quiet place and young families have settled here for the quality of life it brings. We wake to birdsong or the sound of the sheep or the cows. Our garden is a haven for animals and birds as we do not use pesticides or herbicides.
At the same time we are only 5 minutes away from Quettehou in the car. There you can find a big supermarket, a market on Tuesday, a butcher, 2 bakers, chemist, post office, bank etc.
The little sea-port of St Vaast la Hougue is 10 minutes away and there are plenty of restaurants and shops to enjoy and fish to be bought on the quayside. A little further north there are some wonderful beaches ideal for families with small children or for long walks with a dog.

What makes this property unique

Many of our guests have the feeling of "coming home" when they return from a day out. The cottage is decorated very simply. The inside is plaisant as well as comfortable and is not pretentious. Both of us are interested in cooking so we have provided a good basic equipment to enable guests to prepare their meals, as well as a micro-wave oven for those who are having a rest from cooking!
There is plenty of space to store clothes and suitcases etc. The cottage is functional and easy to keep clean.
Outside the back door guests will find a sheltered spot to sit or eat in. It is possible to limit the access so that parents can look over into our part of the garden but contain their children within the cottage's private area.
