About this property

Bayfront Cottage. Private pier! Sunsets! Sunrises! 4 acres of peace and quiet!

Looking for some privacy and isolation yet on the water? Our Bay Cottage is perfect for you.. celebrate its 100 birthday! Originally builtin 1925. You can spend your days fishing from the private pier, kayaking Mobile Bay, crabbing, laying out in the sun on your private “beach“, sitting on the screen porch with a good book, watching movies on the smart TV, or taking naps! Here you can forget about all the problems of the world and relax in paradise.

We have looked for the perfect beach house for many years! We finally found it in the summer of 2014. This vintage cottage originally built in the 1920s, but modernized, sits on a secluded 4 acre lot surrounded by live oaks and huge pines! You can enjoy the sunrise and sunsets overlooking Mobile Bay while sitting on your screen porch or on your shoreside deck. Bringing along a canoe or small boat, you have your own small boat launch from the yard.

Our property is a Birder's Heaven. Not only can you sit on the screen porch and watch Great Blue Herons, Osprey and Pelicans fly by and fish for a meal around the dock, but the neotropical migrants are amazing. We enjoy the dolphins also!

This cottage is one of a kind! The interior is a classic with heart pine floors, walls and ceilings. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, with the master suite having its own bath. The other two bedrooms share a lovely bath. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer. The kitchen includes a full stove and oven, dishwasher, and all the necessary cooking supplies to make it possible to prepare your own meals. Or you may drive just a few miles to enjoy fine cuisine at a number of restaurants at Jesse’s, Beach Club or in Gulf Shores.

Mobile Bay is a fisherman's paradise! You can fish from the pier, catch live crab with one of the traps on site, or put your kayak in and enjoy the bay. Mark catches redfish, flounder and specks.

If you enjoy the beach side of Ft Morgan, the Mobile St public beach is a short drive (or bicycle) away. I love to walk or run the Pine Beach Trail across highway 180 through Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. See photos to see the beauty!

If you like to ride bicycles, there is a nice bike trail just down the road that goes all the way into Gulf Shores. This trail is being extended on past our cottage! The cottage is only about 8 miles from Gulf Shores, close enough to run to town for groceries!

Relaxing

We enjoyed our stay at Bay Cottage. The view of the bay was so relaxing and a heron was on the dock every morning to greet the new day. There was a constant bird symphony. It was a perfect get away.

Cute cottage among the trees by the water.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a week at Maggie's Cottage. My husband (and dog) had a great time fishing off the dock. I read and relaxed in the air conditioning. Had a wonderful meal at Jesse's By the Bay, just down the road. Highly recommend!

Quiet getaway, away from spring breakers

Relaxing week of morning coffee on the dock, reading and meals on the porch, fishing, the beach, trail walks, grilling, watching the sunset and dolphins from the dock and kayaking. Will definitely be back. House is conveniently located but away from spring break crowds. Clean and had everything we needed.

Great For Families!

I chose this place because of its privacy and dog friendly accommodations. My husband and I were asked to keep our four month old granddaughter while my daughter and her husband attended a wedding in Gulf Shores. It was perfect for our needs. The property has very comfortable beds and the kitchen is well stocked with things you may have forgotten! There is a big porch that is so nice to sit on and watch the water. I recommend this property!

Restful vacation spot!

The Bay Cottage is a perfect place for your family vacation! It is far enough away from town to enjoy some quiet time on the screened porch but close enough to town to go for dinner. The Peacock (Kenny) visited a couple times and is awesome. We used the beach access off the end of Mobile St which is part of the refuge and it is nice. We also enjoyed fishing off the pier and watching sunsets. The owner and manager are both very helpful. Would love to stay again in the future.

Prívate, quiet place to relax

Bay Cottage is beautifully laid out, decorated with many antiques and well-stocked. There are plenty of places to be in the house, but the screened porch across the back is hard to resist. The water views are unbeatable and we watched dolphins several days. Shopping, restaurants and attractions are not far away, but we seldom wanted to leave this little oasis. Owners and caretaker made everything simple. Would love to go again!

Absolutely perfect

This beautiful home is exactly like it is represented here. Maggie the owner was a delight to deal with! She made sure that we had everything we could ever need or want. The home has enough room for everyone to have their space while also making it easy to share family time. Fishing off the pier was so much fun. We caught catfish, crabs, croakers etc... It was also the perfect place to watch the dolphins! The cottage is also in the perfect location to go out and about just about everything was close by.

Relaxing and beautiful

You absolutely know that this place is special the moment you get to the end of the driveway and see the cottage. My husband and I have been here 3 times and it never dissappoints. We bring our 2 little dogs who spend every vacation with us. It is perfect for fishing and just chilling out. Everything is so comfortable and you feel like it's your own for a while. I can't say enough about Maggie who is always so quick to respond no matter what she has going on. We are already planning our next trip in a few weeks.

Need Peace and Quiet? This is the Place!

Had a wonderful stay at Bay Cottage! Would definitely stay again! It’s very quite and peaceful there. Got to see a peacock and had a very regular seagull guest we lovingly named Ernie. There’s a very long driveway back to the house that’s excellent to walk up and back in the mornings if that’s something that interests you. A dock in the backyard right on the bay for fishing and a very short drive to a public beach access on the Gulf which was never crowded. Also a great restaurant called Jesse’s that’s also on the bay and a very short drive to. Maggie is a great owner who is very responsive to your needs. We had a great stay and would stay there again.

Perfect Getaway!

This place is awesome! So far off the road that you can’t hear all the traffic on 180. Well stocked. So private. The live oaks keep the place in the shade most of the day, and since it was over 100 degrees while we were there, we were very comfortable. Maggie is awesome as well. She stayed in touch to make sure all was well. The pier needed a few boards repaired, but once we learned where they were, we were good. I would definitely recommend the Bay Cottage to anyone. 😎

Beautifully rustic

We very much enjoyed our stay at Maggie's Bayside Cottage. The location was wonderful and the cottage very quaint. If you enjoy being away from the views of multi storied condos, etc....this is for you. While the weather was too cool to allow us use of the screened porch, we could relax in the living room and still look out upon the waterway or walk around the yard enjoying the natural surroundings. If we had questions Martha or Maggie got the answers to us quickly. They also checked in by text to see how things were going. Thanks to you both.

Cozy just like home with a view unlike any other

This was our first vacation with our grown children. We considered a condo on the beach, but when we saw the photos of the warm and inviting cabin setting with a private dock on the bay, we knew this was our kind of place. And it was everything we expected and more. After a day at the beach or in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach, it was always wonderful to come home to the welcoming Bay Cottage. We cooked all of our dinners in the well equipped kitchen. We rented a couple of kayaks and explored the nearby bayou. We rented a couple of bikes and rode to the beach. We checked out the nearby Fort Morgan and enjoyed learning about its origins and history. We spent a lot of quality time on the screened in porch and on the dock watching incredible sunsets. This vacation will live on fondly in my memory due in large part to our accommodations.

Wonderful place. Will return

First, I must start off by expressing my gratitude to the owner, Maggie, for her professionalism and compassion. We had a booking that ultimately needed to be rescheduled due to the sudden passing of my husband's mother. Maggie was so considerate of our situation, not only did she let us reschedule at the last minute, she sent me available dates and once we picked a new date, she changed the booking for us so we didn't have to do anything. That meant so much to us especially during a chaotic time. Now, in to the property: it was magnificent. Pictures don't do it justice. The house was comfortable and clean. We never left the property once there. We didn't need to. It was so peaceful and while they do have a new house built next door, it's still very secluded and was so quiet. During our stay, it was very windy and cold so we didn't get to enjoy the pier that much but we did enjoy walking our dogs up and down the long, wooded driveway. It was great for exercise and my dogs couldn't get enough of the area. I'm so happy and grateful that dogs are allowed because we love traveling with our pups. We picked up after our dogs each time and it appears other guests were just as courteous as the yard was very tidy in that regard. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the house immensely.

Restful Bungalow but No Pier or Closets

Overall this bungalow offers a quiet retreat. Unfortunately, there were a few issues which disappointed us. Had we known in advance that the pier was completely inaccessible we may not have chosen to go. The owner did tell us it was being rebuilt and might not be finished but there was no pier at all. Additionally, the house was not adequately cleaned. The dirty windows obscured the view and the used and unwashed frying pan are two examples despite the house being cleaned either the day before or on the day of our arrival. There were no closets, drawer space or luggage racks. It was difficult to find a place for our clothing. A wardrobe with about 14” of unused space is not adequate. The two queen size beds were comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water. The rockers and swing on the porch were very nice. The setting is lovely and the view very nice. I think the owner is well intended and will probably address these issues. She was easy to reach and responsive but I believe that the fee should have been adjusted because of the storm damage resulting in no pier at all.

Why they chose this property

Amazing and unique! You'll love it. Such a quiet, private home right on the water of Mobile Bay...while still being so near the beach. We love the quarter mile driveway.

What makes this property unique

4 acres of peace and quiet on the water. Bird watching paradise. Fish from the dock or put in a canoe and paddle around the bay. Sitting on the huge screen porch watching the dolphin dance and fish...and pelicans and Great Blue Herons fish as well.
