This place was nice to stay great location, but it has been let down and needs some tender, loving care to bring it back to what it could be an excellent rating. I suggest cleaning up the grounds trimming the trees for the view and fixing all the windows so they close Like I said it is a great place with a wonderful location.

Great getaway

Our Favorite Getaway

This is second time we have stayed at this sweet little beach getaway. We always love staying here because it is close to everything but you feel like you are away from all the busy places. This time we were a little disappointed that the construction next door was going on but we eventually were able to block out the noise. We would so stay here again!!

String of Pearls was absolutely perfect for our honeymoon in St. John. The house and property are quiet, while still a very short walk to the Westin. We enjoyed the private beach very much! BJ was very responsive and helped out when we had any questions. We will definitely be back!

Such a perfect spot

We really enjoyed this beautiful place. It’s such a perfect location with easy access to everything we were looking to do. Loved having the necessary amenities so I could cook and even do some laundry. The photos don’t do it justice! The beach access is amazing. And everyone was so kind. We’d love to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Booking the String of Pearls was relatively easy and communications with Luciah prior to our scheduled arrival on 29 December 2025 went well. Unfortunately, a travel issue delayed my flight to 30 December, while my daughter arrived on 29 December at the Villa. Surprisingly, the Villa had not been cleaned after the previous guests departure. I called and direct messaged the hosts on Vrbo immediately after my daughter informed me about this unforeseen situation. Within an hour, Luciah and the cleaning crew arrived at the Villa to rectify the issue. Luciah and I spoke on the phone and she assured both me and my daughter that she would make my daughter comfortable as the cleaning ensued. Luciah personally drove my daughter around the town and to a small grocery store to acquire provisions for the next day while I was in route. Constant, uplifting communications with Luciah from that point made our 1st time visit to St. John both memorable and pleasant. Her personal recommendations on dining and National Park sites were SPOT ON! She shared her views cheerfully and REFUNDED 1 day's rental fee for the inconvenience on the 29th. I speculate that a majority of clients would excoriate the Host and Villa in an evaluation of this occurrence (less than 5 stars). In my view (a 4.5 star rating), the situation was handled immediately which helped to obliterate the inconvenience from mind as we enjoyed our St. John adventure and stay at the Villa. Yes, I would rebook the Villa!

Just right for us

Absolutely great location! On the water with an amazing view of the bay. Having the Westin a very short walk on the beach away was a home run. We walked over every night to catch a taxi into Cruz Bay. The living quarters are very nicely arranged and clean. Again, nice view of the bay from bed. Finally, the owner/manager was available and responsive to our needs!

Awesome location

Excellent location within walking distance of Westin via the beach path. Perfect for two people. I would suggest better directions for finding the property especially in the evening. The road to the house could be very challenging for those not comfortable driving on a narrow road . The toilet needs to be reset and linens upgraded. The shower was hot ! Would stay here again !

St John/String of Pearls

My husband and I had a great stay at String of Pearls Villa! The villa was spacious and clean. The kitchen provided everything we needed to prepare some meals at “home”. And most importantly, the bed was incredibly comfortable! The property was private, yet close to everything! We did rent a vehicle, but it would be easy to catch a taxi from the Westin if need be. BJ and Freida were very responsive and offered many hints and tips to make our stay on St John perfect! We look forward to returning to the island and String of Pearls!

False advertising

The property does not have a beach. It has a back yard with sand and a 10’ rocky barrier to get to the ocean. No beach at all! The air conditioning did not work. The hot tub was empty and had dirt in the bottom. Was second floor and bottom floor and side areas were full of trash and ruble. After we arrived and found out what we had actually rented it took several hours to reach the property management team. I escalated it to the vrbo customer service and at about the same time that we were finishing the case number the property management called us back and agreed to refund our money. Also the property is not on chocolate hole. It is in Great Cruise Bay next to the Westin. The only beach in the entire bay belongs to the Westin and is private. Just about every detail in the listing is false.

The best private getaway

I wanted something simple and private for our honeymoon. I knew we wouldn't be at the house often, but I still wanted beach and water access. My husband didn't feel well one day, so it was a perfect spot for me to be able to go sit on our little sandy beach area. A quick maybe 6 minute drive and you are in Cruz Bay for dinner. We enjoyed being able to cook our own breakfast and enjoy it on the porch or by the water! A great way to save if you would rather make sandwiches to carry with you for the day and cook dinner at home. I would highly recommend renting a car. If you don't have a boat, you definitely need a car. There's a spot right down from the house where you can schedule water activities and boat rentals. The property manager was great with response and easy to talk to! All of our friends have been messaging us wanting the info on our little home for the week! I am usually spoiled when it comes to luxurious stays, but in St. John it's the last thing you need. This home is so peaceful and private. You are surrounded by "luxury" just by the views of St. John. Trust me, rent this home and you will not regret the view and privacy you have. We will absolutely be back and I cannot wait!

Villa in Paradise

My husband and I stayed here for two weeks for our honeymoon. The property was absolutely perfect for the two of us. The view was amazing, it was close to town and very private! We did not want to leave but will most definitely return next time we visit STJ!

String of Pearls

We stayed here for our honeymoon and enjoyed the views that it had. Waking up and looking immediately at the ocean was a great sight. The location of this VRBO was nice as well as it is located almost right next to The Westin resort. It was very easy to walk over to the Westin to catch a cab when needed. We would recommend getting a car when you come as the island is very beautiful and the taxis don’t deliver to all available locations on the island and they only run so late. If you arrive at night like we did, it was helpful to read the taxi driver the address as it is given to you when booking this site. Landmarks were more helpful when locating it as it is down a decent hill. The VRBO was a perfect size for a couple and having a washer/dryer was also a plus. As a con we were told the hot tub was out of order upon arrival. We were hoping to get to use it at night when shops were shut down but the part needed to fix it never arrived during our two week stay. Aside from that, our other needs were always met. The bed was also very comfortable. It was also really nice having a full kitchen to prepare food at as food can be kind of spendy on the island when eating out for every meal. It is also conveniently located not far from a grocery store (we walked to the Westin and then up to the grocery store). Overall we loved this VRBO and it’s location on the island and would love to come back again hopefully sooner than later!

St John Dec trip

Adorable property right on the bay! The pictures were very accurate. Great price for being in a great area adjacent to the Westin and on the water. We had a group of people staying at the Westin so it was very convenient getting back and forth. Check in and check out went smoothly. It was helpful to have driving directions so the taxi could get us to the correct place. The balcony is perfect for morning coffee or happy hour! The house was well equipped especially for beach outings with coolers and snorkel gear. St. John is absolutely breath taking and this was reasonably priced for what you got. Host was responsive when contacted.

Very private.

This property was amazing. It is located down a very steep hill, so you must have a car. Otherwise you need to go to the Hilton next door to get a taxi. The private beach was the best, if only it had sand. The backyard was full of chairs, lounges, and water toys. It also has a collapsed dingy filled with water that is a mosquito breeding ground. The oven had no upper element, so was useless. In all our previous rentals, there has always been foil, condiments, and other miscellaneous kitchen supplies leftover from other people. Not so here. Very frustrating when one is used to having them and didn't plan on it during shopping.

Amazing honeymoon

Dream Vacation

We had such a great trip to String of Pearls, and St. John. The home location was perfect for us, easy trips into town, and to different beaches. We loved the set up of the home, very comfortable, spacious. The bed was comfortable, and kitchen well equipped. We never used the entertainment center, so can't speak to that. The view was amazing, right on the water. Each morning we would pull back the drapes and sit in bed to eat breakfast and enjoy the view. Would definitely stay again. The driveway was ridiculously steep and hard to get up, but what can you do!

A Slice of Paradise

A difficult place to leave! Through many travels, this VRBO experience was my favorite. String of Pearls was beyond delightful. It is located on the beach! Afternoons were spent laying in hammocks on this personal beach that had zero traffic…Beautiful ocean harbor view, sea breezes (and AC when needed) added to a high quality stay. The wonderful hosts made sure we got everything we needed to make our stay perfect. The location offers hidden privacy on the beach with services a two minute beach walk away. It was nice to have the Westin so close for taxi grabs and the pool area is fantastic. The property is well taken care of; providing a romantic, beautiful setting. We celebrated our 20th anniversary and plan to go back. Do yourself a favor and reach out to BJ about the Sunset Sail on her beautiful boat The Constelltion too! A slice of heaven…..

I have lived on St. John for thirty years, having sailed here as a youngster on a classic ocean racer. String of Pearls is the cottage I built on my dream property, beachfront land just one house away from the Westin. I love the water and could spend all my time sitting on the beach or sailing, dinghying, windsurfing or kayaking! But I'm a full time real estate broker and am about to build an energy-neutral, 'green' house that will be another great rental! Look forward to Moonlight Serenade.

Why they chose this property

Great Cruz Bay is an elegant neighborhood, mostly of vacation rentals. To own a home on the beach almost adjacent to the Westin Resort with all its amenities is a dream come true. I designed the house to be the perfect romantic hideaway for a couple. When I'm at String of Pearls, I can just walk down the beach to great restaurants, a health club, watersports and shopping. Being just a five minute drive from Cruz Bay, the island's main port of entry is incredibly convenient, too. Ten minutes and I'm at a world class National Park beach.
