About this property

APHROULA'S HOUSE; A family home in a quiet, beautiful corner of Greece.

Aphroula's House is a modern and very comfortable and well equipped property set in a beautiful and quiet location at the back of the village of Milina. Upstairs there is a double bed Apartment with a large open plan kitchen/sitting/dining area. The kitchen has a full sized oven with 4 rings, fridge, washing machine, kettle, toaster and coffee maker, and a full range of cutlery, crockery and glassware. The sitting room also has a large and comfortable sofa-bed. There is a music centre with CD player, FM radio and Bluetooth, so that you can stream music from your phone or tablet. The shaded veranda in front of the apartment has views through the trees, down the valley and out to sea, and has a marble dining table and two sun loungers. The Apartment has ceiling fans, and an air-conditioner.

Behind the house the hills, covered with olive trees, climb steeply to the village of Lafkos. The lane stops here at the house, so there is no passing traffic... it's very peaceful.

The Studio downstairs has twin beds, with space for a third, folding, bed, a kitchen corner with sink, fridge, kettle, toaster and coffee-maker, while outside in a covered area there is a second sink, a small electric oven and rings, and a barbecue. The terrace in front of the studio leads down to an attractive flower and shrub garden and beyond to a productive vegetable garden. The Studio too has an outside marble table, and two sun loungers, and like the Apartment has a ceiling fan and air conditioning.

Aphroula's House is perfect for a family holiday with the parents upstairs, and the children with their own space, downstairs. As the stairwell itself is fully within the building, the effect is of a normal two-storey house. Equally, the house is very suitable for two couples holidaying together, and finally both Apartment and Studio can be let entirely independently.

Note that since the pictures were taken the trees have grown considerably, but the views are still there.

Our Village: Milina is the largest of the seaside villages here in South Pelion - though that is not saying much, with an electoral register of only some 800 souls. However, we have a good grocery and provisions store, two butchers, two bakers, two souvenir shops, and a couple of shops selling 'summer things' - beach shoes, sun hats, and buckets and spades, etc - and a chemist. And along the waterfront there is a really good selection of tavernas specialising in traditional Greek dishes. There are several souvlaki joints, a pizza palace, and several bars and cafes all with the sea just a metre or so away. Finally the beaches. The sea here in the Gulf of Volos is normally quiet, calm and warm, and as the beaches don't shelve, and there are no rocks or currents, it is ideal for children.

Aphroula's house
Tim was not just any host, he was a super super host. Everything from giving directions, meeting us to guide us to the house and having a wonderful basket of food so we wouldn't have to worry about breakfast on our first morning. He was easy to reach if we had any questions. The house itself was perfect for our needs, a couple traveling with two grown up kids. It was without doubt the cleanest and best equipped house we have ever rented. The sturdiness of the house construction was put to the test when storm Daniel arrived, but we didn't have a drop of water inside. My only recommendation to future guests would be to perhaps spend the night in Volos before driving down to Milina. I think that would be a more enjoyable experience than navigating the road in the dark.

Greece as it should be
The property is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the village of Milina and is peaceful and private and has everything you will need for your stay. Tim himself is Pelion's version of Indiana Jones (chopping wood, climbing trees etc) but is a very good host. As Tim lives nearby you occasionally bump into him and he is happy to engage in conversation or just to say good morning. The village itself has no real architectural merit but it does have a long seafront with an abundance of good quality coffee shops, ice cream parlours, restaurants, supermarkets and other retail shops. When you stay in a village like Milina your most important decisions will be 'what time shall we eat, what time shall we swim, what time shall I sleep'. These every day issues become the your main preoccupation as all the distractions of everyday life subside. It may take a few days to adjust, but once you do, let the Milina sunset work its magic. As alluded to the Milina sunset is very spec

A peaceful, comfortable, well-equipped retreat for four people within walking distance of the beach
My husband and I and two good friends spent a week at Aphroula's House in Milina in early July 2017 and loved the experience. The configuration of the house makes it ideal for two friendly couples or one couple travelling with children. The upstairs terrace, which faces west, with a distant view of the sea, is a good spot for breakfast and dinner, but too hot at lunchtime. Ceiling fans and A/C units keep the bedrooms cool at night. The house as a whole is simply furnished and very comfortable, including an outdoor cooking area on the lower level and a conventional, well-equipped kitchen upstairs. The owners live nearby and are on hand to give advice and to resolve problems – not that we had any. It is a pleasant 15–20 minute walk from Aphroula's House to the seafront at Milina, a wonderfully unspoilt village with some good beaches lined by a string of tavernas. Milina has plenty of traditional shops, including grocers, greengrocers, two butchers and a bakery, and local fishermen sell their catch on the quayside in the early morning. Getting to the house from the village by car is a little more challenging – along bumpy, rutted tracks with few passing places – but we got used to it! There is a fabulous walk up the hill behind the house to the mountain village of Lafkos that takes you along a well-worn donkey track with better and better views of the matchless Pagasitic Gulf as you climb. All in all, we had a lovely holiday and came away thinking that a week in Pelion was much too short.

Brilliant Holiday House
Aphroula's house is wonderfully peaceful and quiet, with sea views from the terrace. Milina's secluded location means that, even in the busy summer months, it never feels touristic or over-crowded. The house is a short walk away from the sea front, a number of traditional Greek restaurants, and small shops; it is also perfectly situated for walks over the mountains to other towns. The water is perfect for swimming - because it is a bay, there are barely any waves, and the water is lovely and warm. Tim and Aphroula are perfect hosts, very friendly and welcoming, and helpful in advising on places to visit and activities in the area. I can't recommend this house highly enough.

I'm Tim, and with me in the photo is my wife Aphroula. I'm English and Aphroula is Greek. We came to Pelion with our two very young daughters more than 30 years ago, and set up a tour operating company bringing visitors to south Pelion from England, France, Germany, America and Australia. We ran Houses of Pelion until we retired in 2012, and in 2001 completed Aphroula's House, designed specifically to cater for our guests - and by then we really felt that we knew what people wanted from their holiday accommodation. We are looking forward to welcoming you to beautiful South Pelion, to Milina, and to Aphroula's House!
