Taos with lots of room and amenities for a big family
Recommended w/o reservation. Everyone in my family said that this was the best place that we had ever gone for a reunion. Lots of space to sit around and talk: large living room; 2 outside, covered, picnic tables with grill; metal fire-pit with Adirondack chairs to sit in after dinner and watch the fire to relax. No noise at all, except for a raccoon calling one evening. Within 10 min of downtown Taos (historic area and plaza) in the middle of the day when traffic was heavy. Close to rafting on the Rio Grande and hikes to hot springs, also along the Rio Grande. In short, this property, with room to relax and enjoy, is in an ideal location.
Also, ideal property for getting together. Lots of room for sleeping, eating, preparing food and playing games around the table. There were 13 adults who had plenty of room and plenty of linens (bathing and kitchen linens.) We had use of the washer and dryer if we wanted to do laundry on vacation (Surprise! Surprise! My sister actually did do a load of laundry! The laundry soap was there to use.) The kitchen was well equipped with anything you might need for cooking, roasting, baking or clean-up. And plenty of counter space as well as a big island that could seat 6. There were often 4 of us helping to cook or clean up and we never got in each other's way. No problem finding silverware, steak knives, spatulas, serving spoons or serving platters/bowls, cooking utensils & knives and plenty of mugs, bowls, dinner and luncheon plates as well as glasses and stemware. And I almost forgot the long-handled grilling utensils for the outdoor grill. The plastic bags, dishwasher soap and dish soap were all there, so no need to buy stuff that you would just leave behind when you left to fly home. The only thing we had to buy was food to prep and cook--there were even spices and condiments there for our use. This was the best equipped kitchen for feeding a big group that any of us had ever used.
Rooms were substantial and quiet: if I went to bed early, I could not hear the others talking elsewhere in the house.
I forgot to mention: close to hiking in Carson National Forest, fresh eggs from the chickens, Hector's helpfulness (the caretaker on the property,) tasteful art work decorating the house, & privacy gate. GREAT property in a great place to see the iconic Southwest.
The owner was helpful, pleasant and easy to get in touch with, by phone. The damage deposit was refunded promptly.
