Rustic "Mas" Farmhouse in Baix Emporda/CostaBrava

Our wonderful rustic "Mas" farmhouse full of character in the quiet and serene Gavarres Nature Park/Baix Emporda between Palamos and Mont Ras near Palafrugell and Calella... however it is far from the maddening crowd but just a stone's throw away from the beaches of Castell, La Fosca, Cala Estreta, etc on the Costa Brava.

Mas Cabré is a typical Catalan "mas" (farmhouse) built in 1842, according to the date chiseled on the front stone archway. However, it's been documented that a building of some kind already stood there in the 15th century. That's not surprising, since human presence in the area dates from prehistoric times and several dolmens and other Neolithic carvings can be found on the property or close to it.

During our recent renovation of Mas Cabré, we've kept its rustic, simple style, while upgrading some of the amenities (electricity, water, bathrooms, kitchen, beds and furniture); and we've added a beautiful wood board terrace against a stone wall, with spectacular views of the forest and the sea as well as (since July 2016) a rustic style swimming pool.

The 450 sq meter (1,476 sq feet) house has two floors with large rooms (all doubles) and high ceilings, and sleeps a maximum of 12 people. It is perfect for families or groups of friends wanting to enjoy a few quiet days out in the countryside near the beach, surrounded by beautiful and serene landscapes.

In or around the house, our guests can read, sunbathe, cook, play ping pong and enjoy long, lazy meals on the terrace, or simply sit back and admire the views. Beyond the house, there are plenty of options: going to some of the best beaches of the Costa Brava: Platja Castell, Cala Estreta… hikes or short bicycle trips to nearby Fitor, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding or visiting nearby villages and markets: Mont-Ras, Palamos, Palafrugell...
Want to go sailing? Joan, my husband, has three classic sailing ships and offers a discount to our guests at Mas Cabre to sail the seas of the Costa Brava.
Want to do have a private yoga class? We can arrange for a session with a local yoga teacher.
Want to visit some of the nearby megalithic ruins or wine cellars? We can arrange for a guide to take you on a hike or wine tasting tour to visit them and explain the megalithic culture or wine vineyards in the region.

Mas Cabre is all about location, location, location! You feel like you are far away from everything, almost in the middle of nowhere.

It is situated in the Gavarres Nature Park which is included in the European Union's Natura 2000 Network of protected areas whose goal is to ensure the long term survival of Europe's species and habitats in a sustainable manner.
The nearest house is 1 km away.
However you can see the sea from the house and the town and beaches of the Costa Brava are only minutes away.

Located in the beautifully scenic Baix Empordà region, in Catalonia, Mas Cabré belongs to the municipalities of Vall-Llobrega and Forallac, an area rich with history, great food and sports activities.
From there, you can visit old medieval towns or go to the beach; you can indulge in lunch or dinner by the sea or surrounded by nature; or you can visit a local winery and experience a wine tour.
And let's not forget bicycle trips, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking… You can also go for a day trip to the cities of Girona or Barcelona, a mere 45 minutes or 1 ½ hours away.

How to get to Vall-Llobrega?
Ideally by car (even though there is Sarfa bus service as well as taxis)
How to get to Mas Cabre?
Definitely by car.

Mas Cabre is 45 minutes from Girona and 1 hour 1/2 from Barcelona and is located between the towns of Palamos and Mont-Ras.

It's easy to find Vall-LLobrega and the last portion (1km) of the road to the house is a un-paved road which sets the mood to your stay at Mas Cabre.

A small SUV/Crossover or similar car is recommended.
Basically you just need a high clearance car.
Long low cars (sedans) not recommended.
