The host was great, very interesting woman was Terry. The house was comfortable furniture was comfortable. The fry pans needed an upgrade and the sheets needed an upgrade. But I’ll but all in all it was a wonderful place to stay. Including deer in the backyard our land lady was responsive to all of our needs. We did have problems with Wi-Fi but a new modem was promptly ordered.

We enjoyed the location of this property and the rental was everything that we were looking for during our stay. Convenient access to Custer State Park, Badlands, Deadwood etc. This was our first time using VRBO and the process was a great experience.

My wife and I stayed for a week with our 11 y/o grandson. This is a lovely, well kept, well-appointed prefabricated home in a quiet peaceful residential neighborhood. Host book provided useful suggestions for local dining. Furnishings were very comfortable. Bedrooms were cool, quiet and conducive to good sleep. Kitchen had ample cooking and dining pans and dishes. Particularly appreciated the frosty mugs in the freezer. Outdoor grill worked well.Easy walk to the only grocery store in Custer. Great proximity to Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, 1880 Train, Mickelson bike trail. Close enough for day trips to the Badlands, Devil's Tower, Spearfish Canyon, Rapid City, Evan's plunge in Hot Springs.Property does not have a pool, contrary to listing. Could use salt and pepper shakers. We look forward to coming back.

Custer - clean and convienient

Great location in quiet part of town, near bike trail, and close to many attractions. Very clean, tidy and well kept. It was perfect for our family who wanted to be out during the day and get back in the evening and cook and then relax. It had plenty of room, and had everything we needed. Our hosts were easy to communicate with by text. Highly recommended.

Clean and convenient

Property was easy to find and within walking distance of downtown Custer, which was a perfect home base for visiting Southwestern SD. Nice 3 bedroom, two bath with complete kitchen, full size washer and dryer, and plenty of bedding and towels. Furnishings are a little dated (esp. bedding), but everything was VERY clean and comfortable. Nice yard for kids. Secure and quiet area. Owners were very easy to work with and had everything ready to go as we rolled up. Would definitely visit again!

"Sweet, sweet home"

Our almost 3 year old granddaughter started calling our vacation home our "sweet, sweet home" after two days. The house was so clean and comfortable! Terry left pamphlets, postcards and books in the house to direct us to any site in the Black Hills. Frosted mugs were in the freezer upon arrival. (Nice after a long day driving!) The home is centrally located to all we wanted to see. Kitchen is well appointed with dishes, pots, pans and appliances. The large bathtub in the master suite was a hit with both our grandkids! Being able to return to a home base like this made our vacation memorable and fun. We would return for another vacation.

Walking distance to downtown. Quiet neighborhood. Great communication with host! Brochures and information are in kitchen area which we really appreciated! The only suggestion would be to have a better outdoor sitting area with patio table/chairs. Other then that it was perfect

Our family of 5 stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Mt Rushmore etc. Terry did a GREAT job preparing the home, answering random questions, etc. I highly recommend this place when visiting the Custer area, it was spotless, fresh bed and bath linens, well stocked kitchen and laundry room. Everything we needed for our stay.

Actually, the property was better than we expected. We enjoyed our stay. There was a "down home" feeling to the property and that was positive. We liked the cleanliness, easy check in, and responsive host. Everything we needed was close. We visited Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and the Crazy Horse Monument. We would certainly stay there again.

Everything we needed!

We stayed here as a base for seeing all of the area sites. It was the perfect location to see Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park and Wind cave National Park. It was perfect for our family of 5 and had everything we needed. Great communication with the host and when my husband accidentally locked the keys in the house they were quick to respond and get the door unlocked for us! There's not much yard if that's something you are looking for but we had no plans to use the yard anyway The rental is on a nice quiet neighborhood and we saw 9-12 deer every night just a block or two away. A great experience and we would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area! We recommend Pizza Mill and the Candy store in town for ice cream.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up a military brat but spent all my summers here in South Dakota. We fell in love with the hills and the outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, horseback riding, motorcycles, four wheeling, gardening, kayaking, etc.) and knew someday I would live here and here we are.
We live in Custer County.

Why they chose this property

Both my folks are from South Dakota and I always loved the state so when my husband and I came here for our first Sturgis Rally we fell in love with the hills and it's people, decided to retire here, started looking for our out of town place in Custer and surrounding areas and here we are !!! This is so beautiful to wake up to.

What makes this property unique

This rental is located close to HIKING, WALKING AND BIKING TRAILS, and in a nice, quiet setting with great neighbors.
