Loved the location! Close to all major tourist attractions in the Black Hills. So welcoming, comfy, and beautiful scenery. My family and I absolutely loved staying here. Must try Moonlight Gulch Saloon right down the hill too, delicious burgers and fries! Thank you for everything!!
This is our second stay here. We love the view and the cabin is cozy. Our only complaint s are the ceiling fan in the living/dining room doesn't work and whoever had stayed there before us didn't wash the dishes very well. We washed most, if not all the dishes before we used them. We enjoyed seeing the deer including a couple babies.Even with those couple of issues, we would stay there again.
Pros: Clean home, beautiful views, friendly localsCons: No cellular service or wi-fi unless you go to the bar, directions were challenging, no A/C, the shower was exceptionally small and the shower head was not the greatest, and parking was challenging as it is on a steep hillside. Landscaping on walkways was overgrown.
This cabin is perfect. We loved staying there. Homey, comfy, comfortable. Loved sitting on the deck and seeing the beautiful scenery. Convenient to the different parks. We will definitely stay here again when we are in the area.
We spent a few days in the black hills and loved the cabin! Every night we went to sleep with the sound of the stream and in the morning enjoyed the stream again with our coffee on the deck. The cabin was centrally located for everything to see and do on our list. Easy check in and check out, everything we needed to prepare meals, no complaints. We’d stay again!
This place was a great getaway. The location was perfect! Had beautiful views and being without internet was refreshing.

Little piece of heaven
The cabin was hard to find, communication was difficult but it all worked out and was an amazing couple of days! Views are amazing, cabin was clean, area was so peaceful. Definitely worth it!
A lovely cabin in a beautiful location. Very clean cabin that had everything we needed. We did not have running water the morning we left but overall a great stay.
The deeper you get into the hills, the more it gets ahold of you.
Sitting on the deck on a fall morning drinking a cup of coffee while listening to the creek flow and watching deer play is the way life should be. No internet, and no cell phones makes this place even better!
Quaint family cabin with a beautiful view in a remote location. We did a lot of site seeing so it was a bit of a drive to get back to the cabin but if you have time for the scenic drive it’s definitely worth the trip.
Great location to disconnect and enjoy nature! Perfect location if you are planning to do everything the Black Hills has to offer. 4x4 or AWD vehicle recommended for getting to property :-)
The last week of September was a great time to be in the Black Hills, leaves were changing and not much for crowds. This cabin is very centrally located to the many attractions in the area and we enjoyed the evenings at “home”. Around 6pm each evening one of the neighbors feeds the deer, the Moonshine Gulch Saloon is a fun place with very friendly folks. We enjoyed this trip very much!
We fell in love with the cabin and the views. It was so peaceful and cozy. It was a perfect spot to recharge after our days of exploring the hills. Having my coffee on the deck while watching the sun rise and the deer graze was a favorite time of day for me. Our boys enjoyed the nearby walking trail and were so excited about the area that they did not once complain about not having internet. My husband and I hope to come back for our anniversary.
The cabin was great. Could use a few little changes like shower curtain made shower very dark and upstairs room had no curtains or blinds so it was very bright in the bedroom in the morning.

Better Than Expected
My family and I absolutely loved our time here. It is indeed centrally located in the Black Hills. Staying in Rochford allowed for easy travel to Rapid City, Deadwood, Spearfish, Mt. Rushmore, and Custer. It was a bit more remote than I had anticipated, but was just what we were looking for. It was wonderful to spend time with the children in an electronic free environment (there is local TV stations) and reconnect as a family. The rental is immaculate and well stocked. Clacie was so helpful in offering advice on shortcuts to the main roads. I would connect with him prior to travel. It made a real difference for us. Loved it, recommend it, would gladly stay again.
Hot when we stayed, no A/C. Opening windows helped but then lots of noise from rode below. Despite lack of upstair shower and no A/C, we still enjoyed our stay. Oops, ceiling fan in dining room didn't work. Free standing helped iin bottom bedroom, butbwished there was a second one for upstairs.
This cabin was so cozy and homey!! The views are incredible and the townspeople were super friendly! The only con to this cabin isn’t the cabin itself, it’s the road to get there and the drive way. But once we knew what to expect it was fine. We were surprised that we had no cell service and internet access, but it honestly ended up being the best part of our vacation! My son(15) and my nephew (13) who are always on their phones were finally able to feel what it was like before technology, we played games, watched movies and had many conversations! They loved it as much as myself and my dad did! However the owner of the cabin had a different cell service than we did and they had service in parts of the cabin, but we’re glad we didn’t! I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone! We will definitely be back! Owners are super friendly also, which is a huge plus!
We really liked this house. There were killer views from the deck. Short walk or bike ride to the Mickelson Bike Trail. So much wildlife to see from the deck. The house is like a mini museum. Love all of the antiques!! Everyday I saw something new. Comfy bed. Slept with the windows open because it was so cool. The smell of pine trees brought me to my happy place. Everything you need is provided. Pots and pans, plates, glasses, silverware, even a corkscrew! The grill could stand to be replaced, and the toilet lid in the upstairs bathroom should replaced. Other than that, it's a great place to stay. Make sure you visit the Rochford Store. Otherwise known as the Small of America. And the Moonshine Gulch Saloon. We have recommended this house to a few of our friends.

Nice place, but difficult driveway
The property is nice enough. The view is to die for. However, there is no cell service, wifi, or, at the time I was there, no land line. Luckily, the bartender at the saloon below let me use his phone, so I did and we enjoyed a beer.
Upon arrival, my wife and I slid off the drive and could go no farther. She backed down the drive while I directed. After driving 10 miles to get a signal, I called the owner. He told me to just gun it and go. We had 800 pounds of camping gear in the back of a front wheel drive Pathfinder. There was no go. The owner was nice enough to drive 40 minutes to come haul our gear up. He later came back to top off the water supply. We rescheduled our visit from 4 nights to 2 to avoid the driving up the drive in the dark or in the rains that were all around us. I had no interest in landing on a roof of a house at the end of the drive. I should have known something when all I saw for 40 miles were ATVs. No cars. No trucks.
Also, come with a full tank of gas and groceries. There's nothing for miles, which is why the locals love it, I'm sure.
I will say this. The owner was very accommodating and patient with me, even though I was angry with him at the time of his arrival for not mentioning this in the description. All is well. We enjoyed our short stay and would recommend it if you have the proper vehicle. FYI...I crashed an Indy car at Texas Motor Speedway at 160 mph, so im not affraid to drive. I just dont want to tumble down the side of a mountain.
Beautiful clean property near many fun adventures! No service or WiFi should be made more clear to future renters as we had no clue coming, but fortunately we had so much to do other places we didn’t need it!
Chose the cabin for location, and peace and quiet. Now, the lack of WiFi and cell service wasn’t necessarily the biggest plus, we were
not looking to be “off the grid”!
The community of Rochford was amazing!! Very welcoming and helpful (alternate routes due to construction on 385.for example). A light above the staircase would be nice, but the full moon helped. Bottled water very nice touch.
