About this property

Stunning 18th Century Charentais Logis with Swimming Pool near Cognac

The logis is situated amongst the vineyards of the Grande Champagne region, famously known for having the best Cognac vines in France. It is set in a beautiful rural location, within minutes of the capital of the Grande Champagne, Segonzac where there is a bakery, supermarket, tabac, pharmacy and post office. The house lies within 2 acres of enclosed grounds, which include an orchard, courtyard, pigeonnier, and 10 x 5m swimming pool. The logis will be your gateway to a great vacation, outdoor living, and a family hideaway with simplicity, rustic lifestyle and a relaxed elegance. With large light rooms, carefully renovated with period style furniture it will feel like home from home.

Location: This 18th Century charentais logis, has large light rooms. It sits amongst the vineyards of the Grande Champagne region, famed for being the most impressive region of the Charente. The nearby town of Segonzac, just a 5 minute drive away has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery etc. And the nearby village of Juillac le Coq, a 2 minute drive away has a bakery, post office and a petrol station. The 2 acre garden is completely enclosed by thick bordering fir trees and has open spaces for Badminton etc. The swimming pool and garden are south facing.

The Surrounding Area: The pretty town of Jarnac, birthplace and final resting place of Francois Mitterand lies against the backdrop of the River Charente. Just a 10 minute drive away it also provides enjoyment for fishing and boating enthusiasts. Jarnac is also home of the famous brandy house ‘Courvoisier’.
The lovely town of Cognac, home of the famous brandy houses ‘Camus’, ‘Hennessy’, ‘Martell’, ‘Otard’, and ‘Remy Martin’, is about a 15 minute drive away, where most of the distilleries offer free tastings and tours. With its pretty streets, markets and street cafes the beginning of September sees the 'Coup de Chauffe' festival, where the emotion teasers, smooth talkers, barkers and street knockers wander in the ‘eaux-de-vie’ city streets, and the beginning of August sees the streets filled with Blues, Soul Music and Jazz resonating from the jamming sessions between amateur and professional musicians.

Additional Attractions: The fantastic ‘Puy du Fou’ show retells local history in a spectacle of fireworks, fountains, lasers and stunt riding against the flaming background of a ruined fortress. There are shows every weekend from June to September, and is well worth the hour and a half drive.
Futuroscope is about an hour away, and shows cutting-edge modern film techniques, with a screen the size of a 7 story building and a dome shaped cinema which gives an illusion of solidity and an underfloor screen that makes you feel like you are airborne. It also has a giant 3D cinema.
The beautiful wild ‘cote savage’ is under an hour away where there is miles of long, golden unspoilt beaches.
Or visit the ‘Marais Poitevin’, known as the Venice of France.
The nearest golf course is in Cognac, which is about 15 minutes away.

Beautiful and relaxing
A great spot for some down time, relaxing in tranquility surrounded by cognac vineyards. A short drive to local villages and towns for boulangerie, groceries, bars and restaurants. Would love to stay again!

Fabulous large and tranquil house in among the vineyards
We loved our stay in this magnificent house, along with the private (and warm) swimming pool and the well tended gardens. Inside, the long period, dining table was perfect for leisurely evening meals, and the open plan design into the living room ideal for lounging after a days outing. All of the bedrooms were equally spacious and sunlit so no-one felt that they had drawn a short straw. The property is located in a very quiet part of the countryside and therefore ideal for that get-away-from-it-all experience. However, Segonzac is a mere 10 minutes drive away - so food, wine, petrol etc shopping were very little effort. Royan, Saintes, Angouleme etc are approx 1 hour drives away plus there are many smaller villages and historical sites closer to-hand, for exploratory excursions. We did not meet the owner in person but their directions were excellent and they were very prompt at answering our "how does this work", "is there a ..." etc texts. All-in-all we had a very relaxing time and loved both the property and the region.

Sunshine, pool, rural France, what’s not to like?
Wonderful experience. House is well equipped, some things weren’t working well but nothing beyond normal wear and tear and we notified the lovely property maintenance team that arrived as we left and they took note of everything and said they’d look into it. Don’t forget your mosquito repellant for night time. Beautiful countryside for cycling and excellent quality roads - several 30 mile+ rides were joyful. Recommended and keen to return at some point.

Fantastic 'Away from it all' property
This is a great property for a large family / group holiday where you want to get away from it all. The house and grounds are fantastic, plenty of space and room for everyone. The pool is fantastic and was the focal point for our stay. The bedrooms are all clean, massive and all have different features while the bathrooms are excellent also. The house is located out amongst the vineyards, but only ten minutes from the local shops. All in all, it was exactly the place we were looking for - lots of space, fantastic gardens and a great pool. Recommended.

Countryside charm!
To start with this property is one of a kind. Remembered us of an old hunting lodge brought to modern times by its owners still keeping the charm and character. The property is massive with a little orchard, swimming pool and enough space to fit a wedding party. The positioning its just perfect in the middle of a sea of vineyards in Grand Champagne area. Segonzac is only 5 mins drive or 15 mins by bike (provided at the property) and it hosts a number of Cognac producers, all very keen to show their passion for Eau de Vie. Cognac city it's at a short drive away and it will show a little of its history to everyone passioned. Food scene is as expected in France and we were helped by the owners who provided very insightful comments about the nearby restaurants. Overall we had an amazing time in Charente and this superb property enhanced its reputation. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some French countryside charm.

Great First Holiday
Our visit to Le Logis was our twin sons first holiday and was extra special. The house was all we could have hoped for, being wonderful inside and out. We had a wonderful time and will be returning.

Le Logis - what a gem! Definitely 5 stars....
We were looking for somewhere relaxing, well away from the hustle and bustle of city life but with enough to do reasonably locally for us and the children. This was ideal! We had two families sharing and the house was perfect - plenty of space for everyone without feeling on top of each other, but not so big that anyone got lost. The house itself is beautiful - the pictures don't really do it justice- full of interesting furniture and pictures. Everything was nice and clean when we arrived and there were plenty of towels, bed linen etc. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms and kitchen well-appointed. The instructions were very clear and the owners great to deal with. The grounds are plenty big enough for cricket and badminton, safe enough for children and with some nice fruit trees and a courtyard for dining al fresco. The kids loved the swimming pool, which is very clean and well maintained, and we enjoyed the loungers and sunshades. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend staying here and would love to return someday. It really is a very special place. If there is a downside, it was that our Satnav was determined to take us on dirt roads through the vineyards at every opportunity.....

Home from Home!
A fantastic property in a wonderful location. Peaceful and isolated enough to feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere, yet an ideally located base for visiting all of the attractions in the surrounding areas and within easy reach of all the amenities. The property, especially the kitchen was so well equipped, that as a group of self-proclaimed foodies, there wasn't one gadget we missed from our own kitchens!! Toddlers are well catered for too. For four couples (one with kids) ranging between the ages of 20 and 60 we felt that the house was large enough not to feel as though we weren't in each others pockets, yet cosy enough to enjoy some quality time together. The grounds are beautiful, as is the surrounding area. The pool is safely yet tastefully sectioned off so that small children can play safely in the garden and the icing on the cake was the selection of herbs and fruit trees we discovered (the figs are delicious!!). Each window has a picturesque view, it was difficult to pick which bedroom I wanted. The owners were great to deal with, I would say they went above and beyond the call of duty. Their communications were very prompt and instructions and directions were clear and concise. There was a handbook onsite which even contained a list of local eateries with contact details and travel times!! Our only disappointment was that they couldn't control the weather :) Despite the occasional light showers we throughly enjoyed ourselves. I would highly recommend this property to friends, relatives and strangers, in fact I would break my own travel rule and visit again.

Perfect location, beautiful house, amazing pool!
We just returned from a lovely stay at Le Logis and wish we were still there! The house is in a perfect rural location, surrounded by vineyards. It is a short drive to the nearby town with bakery, pharmacy and restaurant. There is also a large hypermarket close by. La Rochelle and Royan easily accessible also. The house is beautifully renovated and furnished and is clean and spacious. It was perfect for us - 3 couples, 4 kids. The kids loved the space - inside the house, in the large gardens and the lovely pool with sun loungers and shade nearby. Great outdoor eating area also. We would love to return and would recommend this to anyone, particularly those with kids in need of lots of open space!

Perfect Holiday
A big thank you for allowing us to stay in such a beautiful property. The whole holiday was relaxing and with so much space for the 9 of us. Nearby Jarnac was worth a visit and the seaside resort of Rogan was equally lovely. We would definitely return again.

Living Large in France
Wonderful Chateau in Cognac area. Probably 10,000 sq ft with large grounds and a pool. Enjoyed evenings in the courtyard enjoying local wines and during the days touring several of the small local cognac cellars.
