This place is exactly what it says… it was a relaxing, peaceful getaway for our family. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The host was very friendly and thorough. We look forward to returning again.
The property is perfect for family to unite and cook and sit around and tell stories in the evening. Many places to visit and make sure you read the whole book David has put together about the build of this home and all about surrounding area hi lights. It was great information.
Property details as described. Very nice accommodations in a beautiful, quiet and peaceful setting. Great place for a family gathering or just to get away.
This house was the perfect fit for our two families. The AC was nice because it was HOT outside. There were five kids and four adults so lots of noise and the private location helped us feel like we weren’t bothering anyone else.
If you are headed out to enjoy Mt. St. Helens and the surrounding area, or just want a private and peaceful place to gather with friends/family, this place is an excellent home and location!
A group of us were doing fieldwork in the area and this was a great home base for us. The property was clean, spacious, and very scenic. We even had elk visit. If we come back to the area, we will definitely stay again.
Loved our stay at David and Mari’s place. It was exactly what we were looking for, and we loved the views from the property. David was very helpful and responsive with the few questions we had. If I was ever in the area again I would absolutely stay here again

Serenity in the northwest
Very nice home in a beautiful setting! Quiet comfortable, spotless, warm and charming, The hot tub was the perfect way to wind down each day after mountain biking and hiking in the nearby forests. We highly recommend this property and plan on returning.
The house is literally in the middle of a forest. It is very quiet and private. The bedrooms are very adaptable for adults and kids. We highly recommend the house.
We had a fantastic time in Lakewood house - the house still smells like new, very clean, has everything you might need. We loved its secluded location - we had our meals outdoors, with a beautiful view of wild forest, deers and eagles. Also we visited Lucia falls and Cougar park, had some hiking and swimming, everyone had a blast! And finally, the fireworks in Cougar town were so much more than we expected!
Amazing vacation, highly recommended!
The home was beautiful, spacious and had everything that we could possibly need. The area was gorgeous and we found multiple hikes not too far from the property. We started with the Ape Caves, Trail of Two Forest and June Lake. The following day we drove up to Lewis River Falls and hiked all three waterfalls. Absolutely beautiful. The hot tub was much needed after all those miles on our feet.

Beautifully spacious, great location, so private!
What a lovely place to start when wanting to hike, fish, explore during the day and come back to relax by the fire pit all evening! The home was well spaced with comfortable accomodations for adults/kids...beds were comfortable. My only frustration was the need to get toilet paper, as we stayed there 4 nights and only one roll, not even full was in each bathroom. That was a pricey trip to the local store for toilet paper, however we survived and were still able to relax. All instructions were clear too, so that was helpful

Kari,
Thank you for the nice review! We also love the hiking, fishing, and relaxing around the fire pit after a long day of adventure. Sorry to hear about the toilet paper! We have discussed with our cleaner to ensure extra rolls will be stocked under the sink in each of the bathrooms.
Sincerely,
David
The house was great once we found it. We arrived after dark and discovered after walking the entire lane that it’s the only house number that is not illuminated. The house numbers are not in order and this house number sign was posted above another that is illuminated. We never did figure out how to get anything to stream on tv - ended up watching the DVD’s. The house was lovely, clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed the hot tub.

Hi Roxeanne,
I am glad you found the house great, lovely, clean, and comfortable. I am sorry though you had a difficult time finding it. The directions we send are pretty specific and we have large signage for the rental home at the road and on our driveway. It hasn't been our experience guests have had a hard time finding the home but we appreciate your feedback.
Thanks,
David
My family and I (and our dog Pepper) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lakewood over the Thanksgiving Holiday! The home was even more beautiful and spacious and the views more breathtaking than the photos. The house was very clean and we had everything we needed for our stay, including all the kitchen items we needed to make a Thanksgiving feast. We really enjoyed the fire pit and had plenty of firewood!! The drive from Vancouver WA to the property was very scenic and took only one hour. We did not have any problems finding or accessing the rental. The country store was about 10 minutes and was stocked with the essentials and a deli. I highly recommend this rental for larger families and those seeking a peaceful retreat from the city but not that far away. There are plenty of beds available and room to spread out. Looking forward to another stay in the future!

Beautiful, Secluded, Very Clean
The house was in a wonderful, secluded location that was perfect for a group of 3 couples on a weekend retreat. The property was gorgeous, the hottub was nice, and the house was immaculate. Kitchen was remarkably well stocked in most ways (had things like a rice cooker, but missing a couple really basic things like a can opener?). We went to the Ape Caves which were ~30 minutes away and had a lot of fun. My only complaint was the neighbors' dogs and rooster. While the house seemed secluded, it was hunting season, so the tranquility was often shattered by distant gun blasts, dogs barking their heads off (pre-dawn) and a rooster. Not ideal for sleeping in, which was part of our plan. Otherwise, we had an awesome time.

Thank you for the nice review. We are happy to hear you had an awesome time! Thank you for letting us know about the missing can opener. We will drop another one off in the next few days. Sorry to read that you heard barking. That has not been our experience but perhaps it was due to hunting season.
When you arrive to somewhere new, you never know what to expect. We drove down the driveway dumbfounded by the view alone. The lodging was amazing. Spacious. Well provisioned. Quick response with those responsible for any concerns that I call hiccups. G
For instance, we had too many kitchen devices plugged in at once and tripped the breaker; they responded and drove out and remedied the situation. The rooms are spacious. The views incredible. Walking at night in the neighborhood a delight as we picked fresh organic blackberries. I will definitely book this home again if the owner will have us. Easy access for our hiking and a perfect time out at the end of the day.
We enjoyed our stay but a few notes: we never were sent gate access so were left at gate for a LONG time until we LUCKILY accessed by another resident leaving. Would have been TERRIBLE had that not happened. Other things:
1. Please upgrade bedding, pillows, mattresses. They all seemed very worn, old, cheap. and not up to par with nightly rental fee. We are not bedding snobs but these were simply bad.
2. Would be nice to have one room with a KING.
2. Need new hair dryer. One was TINY
2. Soaps for showers? Seems pretty standard these days
3. We bought some foil and left it behind. Again, pretty standard item to keep on hand.

Wow, we have over 100 reviews and this is our first 3 star review. I really don't feel this one is fair. The gate code was sent to this guest prior to their arrival through the VRBO email system on 7/13. They asked for it again and they were sent it again prior to their arrival. The gate and gate code fully functioned. I'm not sure how you can give a poor rating for something that was provided twice and fully functioned. Sorry, the master bedroom has a queen bed not a King as depicted in the pictures of the home and as listed on VRBO. Bedding is changed on a schedule and most guests find it comfortable. We provide hand soap, dish soap, shampoo and conditioner, but not a shared shower soap bar.
It's a lovely property with many amenities. I was so glad to immediately find a crockpot. But through the days of our stay we found issues. Because of a previous VRBO stay at an unrelated location that had no washcloths I was looking for enough washcloths and there was only one in the downstairs bathroom, hardly worth mentioning. However, we discovered the next morning that the coffeepot had not been cleaned. There were moldy grounds in it and it wouldn't work. So we were making coffee for 6 adults with the French Press. Also one night at midnight the smoke detector went off. We could not find any 9 volt batteries and tried to borrow from other appliances without success. We went out the next morning to get a battery. I know there were other issues which I can't remember because I'd just had hip replacement surgery and was not very aware. I passed another review email on to my daughter to fill out so you may be getting more than one review.

Hi Victoria,
I am glad to hear you loved the property with the many amenities. We were not aware the coffee maker was not working. We have replaced it with another one and added new batteries to the smoke detectors. There are usually two washcloths in every bathroom but if one was missing we keep extra washcloths in the hallway linen closet.
Thanks,
David

We love the Pacific Northwest with its forests and outdoor activities! With 3 boys we look forward to escaping the Portland Metro area and enjoying nature and the beautiful outdoors.
Why they chose this property
Our Lakewood property began with the dream of a having a retreat home in a gated community close to the mountains and lakes yet still within driving distance from Portland. We wanted a place where the family could get away from the city and the business of life and enjoy a relaxing time together in the great outdoors. We also wanted a place where our children could form special family memories as they grew up. As we developed this property, we realized that there would be other families who would enjoy it as well. This led us to listing it with VRBO and HomeAway.
A portion of all proceeds from the Lakewood Retreat goes to support clean water projects with Food for the Hungry in Guatemala and Peru.
What makes this property unique
