Tucked in the trees on a ledge overlooking McCauley Pond this lovely log sided home is ready for your perfect vacation. This non- motorized pond is locally known as a productive spot to fish for pike, perch as well as large and small mouth bass and other species of fish. You may fish off the private dock or use the supplied canoe or row boat. It is always fun to stop on the island or just float around. Please be aware it's a short walk down some steps through the woods to reach the pond.
The house is very secluded with tons of privacy. There are only 3 or 4 houses on the pond and none are visible from the house. You can’t see or hear the road from the house. Several trails wind through the woods for short walks around the property. Just walking the well maintained driveway up to the road is a nice walk. If you prefer longer hikes you are not far from the ‘Saranac 6’ or the 46 High Peaks. The Visitor’s Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s, about 10 minutes away, has many wide well maintained trails, programs and a butterfly house in season. There is also park land all around with countless trails.
Activities abound in the area. We are located close to the Saranac chain of lakes with several public boat launches. A 30 minute drive will bring you to Tupper Lake, well known for the Adirondack Wild Center and its elevated ‘Wild Walk’. You can also keep travelling to my favorite, the Adirondack Museum, in Blue Mountain Lake. Of course you must visit the village of Saranac Lake, ‘Capital of the Adirondacks’ and Lake Placid, home of 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, to take advantage of the shops and restaurants. Minutes away, you will find Saranac Inn's golf course. Also close by, is the Adirondack Rail Trail - a 34 mile bike and walking path that connects Tupper Lake and Lake Placid.
The house itself is large, surrounded by deck on three sides (one covered), so you can enjoy the outdoors and the gas grill even if it’s raining.
The great room boasts a fireplace, piano, and large south facing windows looking out toward the pond. In the great room, there is a couch with a pull out bed and also a futon. The first main floor bedroom features a queen sized bed, twin bed, and ensuite bathroom with a shower. The second main floor bed room has a queen sized bed and attached bathroom with tub/shower. Both main floor bedrooms have private entrances to the wrap around deck. You'll find a third bathroom connected to the first floor laundry room.
The master suite, on the upper floor, has a California king sized bed and a loft overlooking the great room. On the loft is a pull out sleeper couch. The master suite has a private balcony. The master bathroom has a large shower and Jaccuzi tub with windows facing the woods.
The kitchen is well equipped with a large refrigerator, through door ice and water, dual fuels stove, dishwasher, and 2 microwaves. Small appliances include coffee maker, waffle iron, blender, crock pot, toaster and toaster oven. Plenty of cooking utensils are supplied as well as a full set of dishes and silver ware. The dining room table seats 10 or there are 2 picnic tables on the deck, not to mention 4 stools at the kitchen island.
The large well lit downstairs is a work in progress. Be careful around the building supplies and equipment but feel free to enjoy a game of pool on the 8’ x 4’ slate pool table or some foosball. Life preserves , paddles and oars are kept by the door that leads to path down to the pond.
On those hopefully rare indoor days checkout the entertainment center in the great room. It’s equipped with cable TV, DVDs, puzzles and games for all ages.
Winter brings many other activities for you enjoyment. You can ice fish out on the pond. Snowmobile trails are located nearby. Opportunities for cross country skiing and snow shoeing abound. Whiteface or Titus Family ski areas are about 45 minutes away, the local Mount Pisgah Ski Area is closer and more accessible. Afterwards return home for a soak in the Jacuzzi or relax in front of the fireplace.
All in all, we hope you enjoy your stay in the most beautiful area nature has to offer. Do as much or as little as you like... it’s your vacation!
