Cute but needs updating
The house itself was clean and in a great location. It could use some updates to the floor especially. We arrived on a Tuesday night after hour and were not able to get the mini splits to work. It was 70 degrees. We were able to sleep with box fans. The next day we called the management company. They sent Crystal out and she was not able to get them to work so she called Manfield heat and air. He main unit outside needed a new board for them to work. He would not be able to get it fixed during our stay and said he would report it to the management company. The temperature then drooped to 45 to 50. We did not have any heat. We reported this via towards the end of our stay and did not receive a response. We then reported it again after our stay. The management company was very rude and said they couldn't do anything about it. We were not offered any compensation. Long Story short don't rent through this management company.
A Carolina Dream is a quaint bungalow in the perfect location with all the amenities needed for a beach stay. Just a block from the beach but still walking distance to groceries, shopping and restaurants. Complaints about the unit being "run down" are overblown. The unit was clean and in good condition. Yes, there are a few soft spots in the floor but none so severe they needed to be painted yellow (if you know, you know). Don't hesitate to stay - especially with your furry friends. This is one of the few rentals that include the pet fee.
The location was excellent..period. The beds were updated, which was nice as well. Beyond that - this is an older property that doesn’t match the pictures. North side of the property has a lot of mold on the outside of the house, and it just had the appearance of minimal updates we’re done to the home. Stove(electric) didn’t wok well at all, toaster was broken… screens were broke on the porch that let ALOT of mosquitoes in, and the whole house just needs a facelift.
Again - location was excellent - but amenities left a little to be desired. I wish I had looked at the most recent reviews.
Floors felt like you were going to fall through. Floors were buckled and you could trip in them. Carpet in family room covering a huge problem with flooring. Musty smelling. Outside lights didn’t work. House had holes in it inside and out. Bathroom floor so mushy you could fall through. Absolutely nothing like the description other than colors of rooms. The house needs major repairs. DO NOT RENT or waste your money. I have pictures but could not upload.

Budget beach rental
The location is great and so convenient to the beach however one of the bathrooms was not clean (smelled like urine). There were pet stains on the carpet in one of the bedrooms. Several screens are busted and need to be repaired. The kitchen hood over the stove is dirty. A cockroach made an appearance on the first night. The yard is overgrown and there are some dead trees that should be taken down for safety reasons. This house needs some love and attention. We love Oak Island but unfortunately we won’t stay here during our next visit.
The cottage was super cute with all the beachy colors and decor. When not at the beach or shopping, we spent most of our time in the screened porch listening to music and the waves. The outdoor shower was perfect to rinse the sand off our feet and our dogs who love swimming. The quick walk to the beach was perfect. There were some spiders both inside and out but overall, the place was clean and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay again.
Just didn't enjoy 8 legged creature's that kept coming out I really liked it

Poor cleaning
House was quaint and cute, however the house was extremely dirty. First walking in the odor was horrible we had to get air freshener right away. Kitchen cabinets and pantry had horrible odor everything we used in the kitchen had to be washed before use. Some of the cookware had old food stick to them. The cabinet la and drawers looked as if they had never been wiped down. We had to kill several spiders. The couches had sand and dirt all in the cracks. Housekeeping needs to be evaluated. We will never rent this property again very disappointed!
The house was clean and comfortable. We took our dog (pet friendly) which we loved doing. Loved the screened in porch. A very quick walk to the beach. Location was perfect, right between 2 grocery stores and several food spots within walking distance if you arent into cooking. We love Oak Island amd this place may be a go to when we visit again.
We had a wonderful time at this great destination! When we arrived the house was cozy and welcoming, with upbeat color scheme and comfortable furniture. The walk from the house to the beach is easy and beautiful. The porch was peaceful and fun to hang out with a good bottle of wine and dinner. Wonderful!!
