A wonderful place to stay!

My family of five greatly enjoyed our time at Robert and Huguette's beautiful apartment. The location was perfect for our college tours of McGill and Concordia. The space itself is lovely, well equipped, sparkling clean and comfortable. The street it's on is quiet and tree-lined, yet it is just around the corner from a fabulous assortment of restaurants. Robert was welcoming and extremely helpful. He suggested great restaurants, gave us directions to get to our chosen places to visit and made our stay easy and fun. We would definitely rent here again!

Disliked: Communication, location, listing accuracy
I do not recommend this property, particularly for anyone travelling alone or with children.Communication with the host became increasingly aggressive after I raised concerns about the courtyard and a significant pricing difference I discovered when searching from Canada versus France. I was removed from the WhatsApp group containing the door code, leaving me without the access information I needed to enter.I also found the host’s presence around the porch intimidating. On one occasion, he sat there as I returned and whispered the door code to me, which I found extremely unsettling. Most concerning was a maintenance visit when the host entered, shouted at me and refused to leave despite my repeatedly asking him to do so. A technician witnessed the interaction. I felt frightened and unsafe. There were also significant practical issues: no Wi-Fi for approximately four days and a water outage. When it rained, the toilets/plumbing made very loud noises that woke my children and made them cry. When I raised this, I was simply told that it happened. The courtyard was not freely accessible as I had understood from the listing, the advertised barbecue was a countertop appliance, and the bathtub was not clean. As a woman staying with two young children, I found the overall experience deeply distressing and would not stay here again.

Response from VrboOwner on 3 Sept 2026
We respectfully disagree with this review and believe important context is missing. The guest originally wanted her stay to end Aug. 22 but knowingly booked the legally required 32-night stay through Sept. 2. From the first day, she made clear her intention to involve legal counsel and requested my email to proceed. I declined and kept communications documented through VRBO. Every legitimate issue raised during her stay was addressed. A particularly important event occurred Aug. 22—the exact date she had originally wanted her stay to end. During a temporary municipal water interruption, the bathroom tap was left ON with the sink plugged. When water service resumed, the downstairs resident discovered water flowing into their bathroom. Emergency entry was necessary to locate and shut off the source. The discovery and intervention were videotaped. The resulting extensive damage, including to our 100 year-old hardwood floors, is part of a damage claim. Just before 7 PM that same day, the guest permanently departed—11 days before her contracted Sept. 2 departure and on the exact date she had originally wanted to leave. We believe this chronology provides important context for future guests evaluating this review. Her allegations should also be considered against the contemporaneous communications, witnesses, photographs and video documenting the stay. Most importantly, our longstanding record speaks for itself: this property has consistently received excellent guest reviews evaluating both the property and me as host. We remain committed to providing every guest with a welcoming, responsive and well-maintained home.

Superb location, property and hosts

Better than advertised or expected. This century old home with original stained oak doors, frames and brick walls makes you want to stay in this impeccably clean home, cozy up and soak in the tranquility of this huge 2000 square foot oasis nestled in the heart of NDG. The private vine covered courtyard augmented with night lighting is a perfect place for high tea with a good book or good friends. Half a block to the south is a bike path that stretches the entire island of Montréal and half a block to the north brings you to all the coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores and more that Sherbrooke Street has to offer; the unique street that starts in the west end of Montréal and ends in the east and is lined with shops, parks, architecture and museums. I wish we could have stayed more than a month. Attention to detail host is always ready to be of service and only a text or call away. We will be back!

A Perfect Fall in Montreal

Robert and Huguette could not have been more accommodating and hospitable. Our first stay in Montreal was perfect because of their warm hospitality. The apartment is filled with “hygge.” We hope we can return some day! This neighborhood is perfect!

A keeper

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this extraordinary apartment, and would recommend it to anyone wishing to explore the great city of Montreal. The neighbourhood is beautiful, walkable, and has every type of restaurant you could want. And it is a short trip to downtown. Robert and Huguette were so friendly, accessible, and helpful, and made our stay even better. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Comfortable & Crisp & Clean

I really enjoyed my stay at this property. I was lucky to get the main bedroom where the bed was super comfy and the a/c was welcomed. There were details and small touches everywhere that did not go unnoticed. I felt the owners really take pride in keeping their apartment top notch. I would stay here again and again. Loved it :)

Historic charm and great location

Excellent location and very well kept property. Quiet neighborhood with many amenities in walking distance. Other parts of Montréal easily accessible. House was very clean and very well finished. Our family of 5 was very comfortable. The two balconies were great as well. Parking was not a problem- plenty of on street parking.

About the host

Hosted by Robert

Host profile image

We love to show hospitality and help people regardless of their age, nationality or religion.

Why they chose this property

This is a great place for people who want a grand vintage homestay on a quiet street with all the conveniences of modern living including an internet download speed of 600+ Mbps.

All the restaurants, cafés, bixi bikes, and subway start with a 2-minute walk from your front or lane door.

What makes this property unique

There are two large balconies and a private courtyard. One balcony overlooks the street and the other is outside the kitchen overlooking the lane and backyards. Everyone loves having two balconies.

The front balcony is adjacent to a bedroom and is great for enjoying refreshments or just relaxing. The one by the kitchen gets a lot of sun but has the protection of a patio umbrella that can also be closed to soak up as much sun as you can handle. Plus it's right off the kitchen and great for a morning coffee and fresh croissants from the café up the street.

Your private washer and dryer are down your own private set of stairs, so no noise in your large 7 1/2 room apartment. Also a clothes drying rack

If you have a car, or just walking, you can use your private lane door entrance with a keyless and lighted keypad for night entry to bring your groceries right up into your kitchen and large pantry room area.
