About this property
Il Soggiorno
Quote from Visit Mexico.com "The city of Merida, Yucatan, known as the “white city”, is famous for its rich Mayan history and for being home to some of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico. It is a great center of activities and is very well connected by road and air to other places in the region and the country. It offers all the amenities of a big city, together with the rich history and culture of colonial Mexico. It is a cosmopolitan and picturesque city, with a strong Maya influence; it serves as a starting point to visit the archaeological sites of Chichen Itza and Uxmal. Merida’s centro historico (historic center) is one of the largest in Mexico and laid out on a grid pattern. Many of the buildings in the historic center of Merida, including those on and around the Plaza Grande (central plaza), were built during the colonial period through the 18th and 19th centuries."

The host was very helpful. The house was large and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the outdoor space.FYI we had issues with plumbing and internet which was mainly due to being in a older part of the city. We had better luck contacting the host rather than the property manager.
The house is just lovely and very well appointed. It was spotlessly clean and a maid cleaned it again in the middle of our stay. The spiral staircase turned out to be a little too much for our old selves, so both couples slept downstairs and shared a bathroom. It worked out fine.
This beautiful home was in a great location, walking distance to many restaurants, stores and the central plaza. The rooms were lovely, beds were firm, and lots of space to stretch out and relax. The pool was refreshing every evening after those hot, hot afternoons and we especially enjoyed the colorful tiles, luscious plants and lighting in the outdoor space. Check in was smooth and the host was easy to contact. We would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for staying at my home away from home. I'm so glad you visited the amazing archaeological sites. There really is so much to see. I've returned at least twice year for the last eight years, and still have not seen it all. I hope you return soon. Best regards,
Michele
Stop looking and book this place! Il Soggiorno is the ultimate sanctuary in downtown Merida. The house is full of history, space and comfort. We found the house to be a welcome landing spot to relax and enjoy the Merida winter weather. The house can easily accommodate at least 6 individuals, everything is clean and comfortable including a huge kitchen, incredible back yard and multiple sitting spaces in the house. The A/C's blow cold, all the appliances are in great shape and the kitchen is equipped to prepare meals with ease. You're 5 blocks from the Centro, and everywhere you would want to be in town is minutes from the house. Our host was incredibly fast to respond, and our local contact was available when we had questions. You'll be blown away by the space, book it!

Thank you so much for your kind review. I would love to have you back in Merida. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay.
You open the door to another world; a relaxing and comfortable home protected by large walls. When you want to go out, the city center is close and the Plaza de Santiago is just a couple of blocks away. We spent lots of time on the covered veranda and in the pool! Lovely stay and the manager is very helpful and quick to respond.

Thank you for your lovely words. You were a wonderful guest. I hope you come and stay with us again.
What a stunning home! This is one of those places that looks better than the photos. We visited over Christmas with our two daughters and their partners and the 6 of us found the home comfy, spacious, well equipped and very special! The architectural details restoring this home are lovely and the colours, landscaping, location, pool, 3 living rooms, huge kitchen are all quite wonderful! We were able to park our vehicle in the huge garage and the whole house feels safe and secure. There was a hot water tank problem while visiting and it was dealt with promptly and with no problem. Thank you for making this home available to renters! (As someone who rents out a house on VRBO I know how much work it is!)

Thank you so much for your words and for spending your vacation here. You were a fabulous guest. I hope you will plan to stay with us again.
Three of us stayed here for 10 days. It was perfectly located to walk to many of the key targets in centro historic downtown. We also visited the zoo and paseo montejo.
We did several day trips to ruins and cenotes.
The communications with the owner were timely and helpful! We left the keys by the pool and locked the back gate and locked ourselves out. Another set of keys were delivered and problem solved. It is a quiet retreat to hang out during the heat of tha day and chill out before the evening wander. We hope to return and stay again!! Highly recommended🐻
The home is beautiful. The pool felt wonderful to swim in after a hot afternoon out sightseeing. The home was very clean. The only thing we noticed was that the master bedroom
Bed needed new pillows and mattress pad. Close proximity to parks and shopping. Good communication with manager and host. The kitchen was very spacious and great area to cook a good meal. Would be happy to rent this home again when staying in Merida.
This is a lovely, large home. It's very clean and well-maintained. The design and decor are beautiful. Be sure to look in the notebook of photographs from the renovation. The transformation is amazing! The location was perfect for us. We liked being so close to Parque Santiago. It has great food stalls, a mercado with fresh vegetables and meats, and music/dancing in the square on Tuesday nights. The main Plaza Grande is also in walking distance. We had a little difficulty upon arrival. The code given for the lock box was incorrect and the gas wasn't working. However, I was able to reach the property manager by phone immediately. She and her team worked late into the evening to correct the problem. Smooth sailing from then on! I highly recommend this beautiful and comfortable home.

Lovely house, but small issues
The house is huge and has a well equipped kitchen and lovely patio and pool, which is very clean. The master bedroom is up a spiral staircase, but is very large and quieter than downstairs. But the master bath is up another 6 steps. Ok for young families, but not for us. We used the downstairs bedroom and bath on a daily basis, however we used the upstairs bath for showers. It was much bigger and had a better shower.
The biggest issue was the traffic noise. Even after closing all the doors between the main dining, kitchen, living area and the front of the house, at times the traffic noise was really loud. Nothing to be done about it. That is Merida in certain areas. Just happens to be a busy street. I would still recommend it, but if you are sensitive to noise, just be aware.

It is a lovely property with a very helpful local staff
The location is perfect for walking into the central square of Historic Merida. The swimming pool and air conditioning came in quite handy since it was unseasonable hot during our January visit. I found the local contact quite helpful with a couple of tiny issues that came up. The house keeper was also very nice and helpful. I would stay here again.

Magical Merida
My husband, our 20 year old son, and I enjoyed 3 days at Casa Carambola, located just 6 blocks or so from Historico Centro in Merida, Yucatan . It was a fantastic trip in every way! The house has been restored beautifully! The original pasta tile floors aND colonial style doors are just some of the architectural elements that make this house so special. As travelers we were delighted with how well set up and equipped it was.We truly only needed to bring our own clothes and toiletries. Everything needed is there! Although there is a plethora of excellent restaurants within walking distance, the kitchen is fully loaded and ready for cooking....and the Mexican style dishes are lovely. The laundry room is wonderful, with full sized washer and dryer. Even in November we enjoyed the pool! The walled garden and swimming pool area was a relaxing retreat. ..We walked into Historico Centro each day and again at night. .It's the perfect location for exploring and sampling authentic Meridian life! We can't wait to go back. .we loved it! Thank you Tom and Michele for opening your house up to us!

What a wonderful vacation!
My husband and I have visited Merida many times. This was our first time trying VRBO.
We found this home on VRBO and fell in love. It was central to everything we wanted to do, and at the same time we had our very own little paradise to come back to every night. We had everything we could possibly need. I can't wait to do this again next year! A great escape from the North East cold! Thank you Tom and Michele for providing such a beautiful and comfortable home for vacationers like us.

Why they chose this property
My sister lives in Merida and with every year that we visited we loved the city and the surrounding area more and more. There is just so much to see and do! The Colonial homes in downtown (Centro) are just amazing. We love exploring, and this home has provided us with easy access to many of Mexico's amazing sights, such as Uxmal, Chichenitza, Izamal, etc... Long story short, we decided we wanted a home of our own. Visit http://www.visitmexico.com/en/merida
What makes this property unique
This particular home needed very little structural change, It was mostly cosmetic. This home is over 100 years old. We loved the high ceiling, old doors, original floors and archways. We wanted to keep the feel of the original home in tact. I think we accomplished that, and hope that anyone who stays in our home will appreciate that and truly enjoy their stay at la Carambola house.
