About this property
Dog-Friendly Loft on Ranch - 1Hr to Grand Canyon
Spacious dog-friendly 1-bedroom loft on a historic Arizona ranch, only 20 minutes from the Grand Canyon South Entrance. Private balcony, full kitchen, on-site horseback riding, and starry night skies.
If you're going to The Grand Canyon, the official Route 66 town of Williams, AZ known as "The Gateway to the Grand Canyon," Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, The Deer Farm, Flagstaff's Sunset Crater Volcano or Arizona Snowbowl, Meteor Crater, Walnut Canyon, the Red Rock Country of Sedona and its Oak Creek Canyon, Out of Africa, Tge Camp Verde Railroad, Havasupai Falls, Grand Canyon Caverns, Antelope Canyon or Horseshoe Bend, we sit at the virtual center of all these wonderful destinations.
BEFORE YOU BOOK ANOTHER PROPERTY, PLEASE READ OUR REVIEWS!
Your 1b, 1ba Loft with a hand-carved, Ash hardwood Queen Bed. The Loft sits on 10 acres+, unlike 1-2 acre or less, packed areas like Kachina Village, Mountain Aire, Baderville, Doney Park, or Sherwood Forest, which are neighborhoods. These “city neighborhood styled areas” are NOT desirable; mixed communities with nice houses and junk properties intermingled.
At The Loft, you will not be in a suburban or semi-rural neighborhood. You’ll be staying far from local cities. This is a free-standing, remote, deep-in-forest place with a gorgeous view of the famous Spring Valley. The Loft is a separate, secured living area above our offices with all new appliances, hand-carved hardwood aspen bed with bed warmers, deck off the Master Bdrm, new wood stove with free firewood, HD DirecTV, breakfast bar & dining nook. Kitchen ware and utensils, salt, pepper & some spices stocked for your convenience.
This property was initially developed in 1990 by the Wrigley Family. Yes. Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs), Wrigley Chewing Gun. Known by legacy as “The Wrigley Ranch,” it’s most recently known as “Dago Joe’s Place.”
As remote as this may be, you'll be safe and secure as we are here on property to assist in any unusual or emergency situation. We have never had such an occurrence. However, we do have clear and efficient plans for any unexpected emergency. We have many motion sensor night lights.
The Loft is nestled in 40ft-75ft pines, the perfect place for a weekend getaway deep in the Kaibab National Forest. Whether you’re looking to beat the heat of The Valley, Havasu, or Vegas, or for a serene trip, a romantic getaway, or an adventure vacation, or even a honeymoon, this is the place. You'll love the "no air conditioning needed" comfort of The Loft. Open, crack or close windows to adjust your room temp.
Free amenities include unlimited wood stove, split firewood & one free 12 pack of split firewood per stay for the fire pit. BBQ tools included. Add'l fire pit firewood at only $6 per 12 add'l pieces. No Wi-Fi because of satellite bandwidth limitations/costs. No cell phone reception because you're too deep in the woods! To use your cell phone, you'll need to drive out to the prairie about 2 miles down the road.
Tarry on out to our pond and enjoy sitting on our glider/bench while the geese and ducks frolic. If you like, bring fresh fruits and veggies to hand feed all the free-grazing birds. Horses love carrots and apples! Take the baby goats for a walk.
Walk freely on our 10 acre property plus its 30 acre add’l fenced forest land or head out on walking/ski trails to Spring Valley Tank where elk, antelope and deer get their water. Or take a hike on Sitgreaves Mtn or Spring Valley Knoll.
Horseback riding, including snow rides, are incredibly popular, too. Let us know if you want to ride so we can “pencil” you in! Availability subject to weather and ground conditions review day of ride by hosts.
Non-aggressive, dogs are more than welcome. No Pit Bulls or Rottweilers, however. Over 600 canine guests so far.
Horseback Riding available on site, guided or unguided riding right here all year 'round! Also Target Shooting & 4wd Tours are usually available March 15 - Nov 15! (Weather restrictions may apply.)
BRING YOUR QUADS. Plenty of room to park your quad trailer behind the barn. No charge!
Fishing at local lakes most Spring, Summer and Fall. Many lakes are nearby in Williams including Cataract, Kaibab, Dogtown and White Horse lakes.
Grand Canyon a little over an hour due North. Bearizona drive-thru wildlife park, Deer Farm, Canyon Coaster, and Elephant Rocks golf course are about 15 miles West. Sedona and its Red Rock majesty about an hour SE. Meteor Crater and Painted Desert about 45 mins E. Sunset Crater Volcano, Lockett Meadow, Walnut Canyon, Ft Tuthill Adventure Park and SnowBowl Ski Resort and its Summer Fun activities nearby in Flagstaff.
Folks often ask how close walking trails are. Start at The Loft’s door and virtually head out! Take a 2 mile RT flat walk to Spring Valley Tank, a very popular watering hole for all thirsty wildlife around here on the Spring Valley X-Country Ski Trail. Take a hike or dirt bicycle ride to Shulz Pass and see it's gorgeous high mountain meadows about 1 mile past Spring Valley Tank. Or for near 360 degree views of most of Northern Arizona’s highest peaks plus a glimpse of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, take a 4 mile RT horseback ride due East to Lone Tree Lookout, about 1/2 mile past Spring Valley Knoll. Or take a 4 mile RT on the Spring Valley Trail along the base of Sitgreave’s foothills to the new end of the trail where a Martian type, landscape desolation developed from a massive wildland fire 6-8 years ago. And if you dare and you’re in high altitude climbing condition, try mountain hiking to the peak of Mt. Sitgreaves due West of here. No fire roads. No trails unless you stumble upon an elk trail. We are told that only 5 people per year find the summit and make it to the top. Please advise us if you intend to try it. If you tackle this challenge, please advise us when you depart and when we should expect your return. Please have a cell phone AND GPS emergency locator with you if you try.
Max stays: 9 nights. 1100 sq ft is an estimated Loft size; what we were told when we purchased the property.
Friendly dogs welcome. But they MUST be perfectly controlled by voice commands OR must be on leash. Dogs may not be left alone in cottage unless we approve in advance. Incessant barking is banned by law. Unless you can absolutely control your dog(s) please don't bring them. No felines (cats) unless we approve in writing in advance.
Immunized, wormed, well and sound horses welcome. Separate 1+ acre pasture available for guest equines. Trailer parking included FREE. Water included FREE. Barn available for tack storage if needed. $25.00 per horse per night. Additional if we supply alfalfa: $3 per flake per feeding. 2lbs 12% grain (sweet feed) @ $2 per feeding. We have alfalfa and sweet feed grain (10-12%) only. No Timothy, Orchard Grass, Bermuda or other grains. Parks Feed may have other options for you once you’re here.
"Emergency" hosted laundry services for spills on bedding at $25 per load (wash and dry). No self-serve laundry available. If you have a different type of laundry emergency, please ask if we can help.
This is a NO SMOKING SUITE indoors. OUTDOOR SMOKING AREA: Concrete areas and around the outdoor fire pit. NO BUTTS IN FIRE PIT nor to the ground ever. Dispose of smoked butts in cans or bottles. NO SMOKING OUTSIDE OR OFF THESE TWO VERY SPECIFIC AREAS. NO SMOKING ON TRAILS NOR ANYWHERE IN SURROUNDING NATIONAL FOREST. Fires in dense forest are a major concern here no matter what official bans may be in place or not.
PROPANE/GAS BBQ is available to you for your exclusive use right next to your WOOD BURNING Fire Pit. FIRE PIT ready for you, unless bans are put in place by authorities. Bring your firewood or buy here ($10 per 12 pcs).
Hosted target shooting may be available at additional cost that varies depending on weapons chosen and cost of their ammunition. Ask for quotation, scheduling and availability. Strictly supervised. Or bring your own guns and ammo for target shooting. Varmint hunting requires an AZ hunting license. Big game requires tags must be acquired about a year in advance. No game processing on site. Field dressing only.
Horseback riding is usually available year ‘round at add'l cost, limited by weather and ground conditions (mud/snow). Smooth sole riding/cowboy boots mandatory (we rent boots @ $5 per ride). Other mandatory wear: long sleeve shirt, long pants (no shorts), jeans preferred (no leggings, comfy pants, or sweats), ski clothing OK in Winter, waterproof clothing/rain gear during Summer monsoons (June 20 - Sept 20), well-lined or heated gloves in Winter, thick or heated socks in Winter, sunglasses recommended in Summer and if snow cover is >50%, and long Johns or layers in Winter. Free but mandatory acquainting where you groom, pick hooves, do ground work and ride in small areas to start. Then, we will rate your comfort, confidence and control and set riding limits accordingly: on our roads only, in the 3 acre fenced pasture, our 40 acre fenced property, or off property rides. All rides off our fenced property require a guide.
Hosted, narrated 4WD Tours are also available at extra cost that get you up close and personal with remote terrain in our greater area. Up to 4 guests per ride. Billed hourly with 15 min incremental billing for add'l time.
Ask us about local attractions and other points of interest like Lava River Cave, Out of Africa, Havasupi’s turquoise falls, The Edge of the World, local lakes and more!

Love ranching. Have horses available for riding, eggs from happy chickens and content ducks. $0.50ea for chicken eggs, $1.00 for duck eggs, $3.00 for goose eggs. Goats on site love for you to take them for walks! Our dogs will follow or lead you wherever you go riding or hiking. Cat might join all of you, too! Yes, he’s done that.
We are on-site for your safety and security. No 2-legged varmints have ever dared to broach our property. Not once ever. Skunks, raccoons, porcupines, and other varmints generally stay away because of the presence of our dogs. NO SNAKES, NO SCORPIONS. Almost no mosquitos here at 7,400ft!
We will give you whatever space and privacy you desire. That said, we are far from being anti-social. But the onus is on you to interact with us if you choose. We do not want or need to intrude on your privacy. Do not be shy, however. We are willing to be your concierges for your stay, advising you of any and all local activities and places at which to eat. Interactions are up to you. We love to interact and have literally enjoyed all of our guests with rare exception to date. No joke!

Why they chose this property
Property sits at the Southern tip of the world renowned “Spring Valley.” Views of the meadows from here are awe inspiring for most folks. Elk and deer regularly mingle with horses and other livestock here. Best opportunities for viewing are early mornings and late afternoon/early to sunset.

What makes this property unique
The Wrigley Ranch should probably be designated as an historical site. This property was initially built by a member of the Wrigley family in 1990. Wrigley Field/Chicago Cubs/Wrigley chewing gum. Main house is rumored to be a Frank Lloyd Wight original, bought and built by the Wrigley family as a vacation home(s). This is the last remnant of the once famous, sprawling Wrigley Ranch of Northern Arizona!
