About this property
Spacious Farmhouse with Private Pool. Ideal for 10 adults.
La Zuzaliere is a 200 year old farmhouse built from local limestone called 'tuffe' with roofs of clay pantiles and slate. Surrounded on all sides by rolling countryside it enjoys lovely views. The main part of the garden is south facing creating a sun trap from breakfast time through to evening. There is also a pretty enclosed courtyard surrounded by old stone barns and a wine press. Richelieu is about 10 minutes drive away and is a small picturesque market town with excellent restaurants, friendly bars and a good supermarket. Chinon is about 30 minutes drive away and is a large medieval town with a partly restored chateau and echo. Further afield are other Loire chateaux including the beautiful Azay-le-Rideau (45 mins) and Usse (of Sleeping Beauty fame). Chambord and Chenonceau make a great day out. Futuroscope is about 30 minutes drive away just north of historic Poitiers. There are also lots of vineyards to visit and wines to taste - try Chinon and Haut Poitou.

This provided our family group with numerous places to visit. Lovely restaurants to eat at and most importantly the privacy to enjoy quality family time! We will be back!
Lovely house in rural France. House was perfect for our needs and the garden and pool was excellent. Shame about the weather but we were able to visit Chinon, Richelieu and Châtellerault instead.

We are both shocked and upset to receive such negative feedback. We pride ourselves on doing everything we can to make our guests’ stays enjoyable and this is the first review we have received that is less than pleasing, in all the 15 years that we have been offering our farmhouse for rental.
To offer a little balance, we would like to make the following comments:
1. Just prior to their arrival, these guests pleaded with us to allow their dog to come as the care they had arranged was now not available. We absolutely don’t allow pets in case they cause problems for future guests, (allergies etc.) but we very reluctantly bent the rules to accommodate them, otherwise their holiday would have been spoilt.
2. On their second day, these guests reported that the kitchen tap was broken, yet the cleaners had used it without problem the previous day. We had the entire sink and tap replaced with brand new ones just 2 years ago. In any case, we dropped everything to quickly contact a local plumber who could come out urgently to this rural property at the weekend. We did not charge them for the damage or call out.
The house is 200 years old with 1 metre thick stone walls and in some rooms exposed oak beams with traditional hazel wattle and lime plastered walls and ceilings, and quarry tiled floors. It is gorgeously rustic and full of French charm, and we have deliberately not over renovated/developed it so as not to lose the precious character. We do, however, invest and work to a rolling maintenance and improvement programme, critical to such an old building.
Access to the first floor is by an old, ornamental, narrow cast iron staircase and this is referred to in the web site description. The description also says that the farmhouse is ideal for 10 adults, (there are 5 bedrooms) but it can sleep up to 17.
We have a very loyal, proud, and hardworking local team of cleaners, gardeners and a pool man.
The pool, large garden, and outside facilities such as the covered outdoor dining area and the large south facing patio make it ideal for relaxing and entertaining. There is also a separate courtyard area. Given the size of the accommodation and the outside space we think that it offers excellent value for money, especially when the cost is shared between 2 families (usually made up of 4-6 adults plus 4-6 children).
We recognise that not everyone will enjoy a rustic, rural farmhouse environment so perhaps these guests would have been happier with a larger and newer style of accommodation.
Great pool and outside areas including an excellent barbecue.
The farmhouse was dated but the thick walls proved to be a godsend in the heat and the ice maker was fantastic! Thank you! We had a lovely time.
Typical French farmhouse with Pool, Quiet good location for trips to Tours, Richelieu and Poitiers. Good sized pool although five feet deep throughout so youngsters have to watched for trying to sneak in. Two Bedrooms downstairs one which is accessed through another or alternatively has a door to outside which the house can be accessed to for the toilet my only main fault is that bed is pretty old springwise and could do with updating apart from that small point thanks to Mike we had a lovely stay and holiday.
We had an amazing week at La Zuzalière. We were with 10 adults and enjoyed our summervacation there a lot. The house is perhaps a little old but has everything you need for a relaxing vacation: a large garden with swimming pool, many places to sit outside and enjoy the sun while reading a book or playing a game. It also has a large and perfectly equipped kitchen (and outside bbq!). We also went canoeing in the beautiful nearby town Chinon and had some Loire wine-tastings. Would definitely recommend!

Vacances agréable entre amis
Globalement satisfaisant.
A wonderful fortnights break with lots of fun in the pool and days out followed by evening BBQs at this great farmhouse .The entire family managed to get there from all over and everyone enjoyed themselves wonderful views all around
Thank you

Great location outdoor space and private
We had s great fortnight in August 2016 with 14 of us staying in the house,
Great location outdoor area and very private.
All 14 people 6 adults and 14 children had a great holiday in la Zuzaliere, my favourite part of the house was the outside eating area and swimming pool.
La Zuzaliere had lots of character and had every thing we required to make our holiday comfortable.

Lovely holiday
My family and I (all 17 of us) had a great time at La Zuzaliere. The house and pool were great, a real home from home. We have stayed in many holiday homes over the years and have to say that this one has been the best in terms of amenities, so many pots and pans and sharp kitchen knives, my wife and mother were very impressed!
We explored as recommended and the grandchildren had great fun imagining the history of the farm.
There was plenty of room for us all and we enjoyed the local walks and area very much.
Also, excellent value for money.
