About this property

Hill Villa With Private Pool, Landscaped Garden and Exquisite Chef Service

Villa Maddalena is an ideal holiday family house. It is set on a hill on the edge of the thermal town of Acqui Terme, in the heart of Piemontese area renowned for its wines and food. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden, a very comfortable swimming pool area, and many well-equipped outside dining and sitting areas. The house is within short driving distance from 4 main airports: Genoa, Milano Linate, Milano Malpensa and Turin. From the house one can reach the town on foot (15 minutes walk), or on a bicycle, and just at the bottom of the hill (5 minutes walk), there is a grocery shop, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent and ice cream shop, while the town itself offers excellent restaurants, music events, thermal water treatments, local markets. To our guests we offer the possibility to have a Chef Service for lunches or dinners.
The house is on 2 floors: on the ground floor you find a large eat-in kitchen that opens up in front of the dining tables on one end and towards the living room on the other end. The living room has a large sofa, and another 2 smaller sofas, 4/ 5 chairs scattered around and a round table with another chair that we use like a desk. The inside dining room is hardly ever used in the summer, it has a dining table that can be enlarged to seat about 10 people, there is library with some books and VCRs. Further on, on the same floor, there are 2 bedrooms: one is a double bedroom with access to a private garden and the other one is a 3 beds children bedroom, that opens towards the garden. On this floor there are 2 bathrooms: one is ensuite to the double bedroom but it can be also be accessed by the children' s room, the other one is adjacent to the children bedroom and accessible also from the kitchen. Indoor stairs and outdoor stairs lead up to the second floor, where one finds a pleasant smaller living room opening up to a balcony overlooking the garden and the pool and 2 areas: each has a double bedroom and a 2 twin beds bedroom, sometimes the tween beds are put together to make it a double bed. Also there are the 3 bathrooms : one is en-suite to the master bedroom, and 2 bathrooms are for the other 3 bedrooms.
The house is surrounded by a 3.000 sqm beautiful garden, with large relaxing areas with chairs, tables, under tall old trees, a gazebo, swing chairs and sun loungers.
The pool is 14mt long and 6 mt wide, with a "play area", about 1mt deep, and a diving area about 2,5 mt deep with a diving board. Pool has night lights and outdoor shower.
A very efficient wood burning oven is conveniently placed on the side of the garden.
A laundry area with washing and drying machine is in the little pool hut, where the wood oven is placed.
A chef service is available upon request.
A house manager is available for any emergencies or even simple clarifications about the house functioning and for suggestions about the area.

Nice villa with excellent pool
10 of us stayed at Villa Madelena. The Villa itself is an excellent size. All the bedrooms were big and had plenty of room. The villa is a little dated but nothing that would ruin your holiday. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything that we needed. We had lots of bbq’s & used the pizza oven one night. The pool was amazing - really big. We used it everyday and even had an evening swim. One of the reasons we chose the Villa was for the location as we wanted something within walking distance of the town and had a train station as some of the party didn’t want to hire a car. Both of these things were true, however, the Villa is half way up a VERY steep hill. One of our party is unable to walk very far so couldn’t venture out. Taxis are non existent and Uber don’t run in Acqui Terme so there is very little way of getting around other than walking or hiring a car. The centre of town was about a 15 minute walk away but beware of the hill climb on the way home. Some of our party hired a car for a week. I’m really glad we did as we wouldn’t have been able to do much at all. We visited some lovely local villages with Alba being a favourite. Acqui Terme isn’t a touristy place so you get a real feel for Italian culture. I would also take plenty of mosquito repellent, we all got bitten loads! We spent a small fortune on citronella candles which we lit during the evening. Overall we had a pleasant stay but I would 100% hire a car if I was to return.

Wonderful villa with lots of character and an excellent pool!
Our family group of 13 adults loved Villa Maddalena with its extensive gardens and large pool! It felt very peaceful and private but is close enough to walk down the hill into Acqui Terme (charming streets and amazing hot thermal spring in the old town). The beautiful old house is well-equipped with comfortable furniture and all the necessary kitchen equipment to feed a large group – nice big cooker and plenty of fridge and freezer space, large pots and pans etc. We ate all our meals outdoors at the big table and enjoyed the different outside seating areas too. Prior to our holiday we found the owner, Barbara, quick to respond to messages and queries about the accommodation and keen to meet our needs. On arrival, We were greeted by Maie, who was very welcoming and friendly; throughout our stay she was on call and responded immediately to queries. We were all very sorry to leave when our wonderful holiday was over! Thank you Maie and Barbara!

Lovely private villa with a rustic feel and a great pool. Great location for a quiet holiday
The villa has lots of character and the rooms are a good size. The shuttered windows and stone floors give a lovely old, rustic feel to the place. There was plenty of room and equipment for our group of 7( ages from 13 to 57) we didn't use all the bedrooms. There is a pizza oven outside though we didn't get around to using it but I imagine would be fun for a family to try out. The pool is fantastic and we had a great time (we brought our own airbeds with us). However, there isn't much shade around the pool but the ample sun loungers are great, very comfortable with a small canopy attached which can be angled to shade the head. It would have been good to have had a couple of small plastic tables next to the sun beds to put snacks and drinks on. The villa is up a pretty steep hill which made us blow a bit but we managed to walk up daily, some people may find it quite difficult. It takes about 20 minutes to walk into Acqui Terme which is a lovely town with lots of narrow streets and old buildings. The train station is also within walking distance but would be quite a hike with luggage. We found a good size supermarket just before the town itself and we did all our food shopping there. We walked everywhere as we had no car. I would just add that it was a bad year for mosquitoes so I would suggest bringing insect repellent and antihistamine cream but that's just one of those things that can't be helped. We had a great 2 week stay in a beautiful villa with everything we needed. Maie, who manages the home for Barbara was lovely and very helpful and on call for any advice or assistance. We would definitely recommend it and would love to go back again.

Fabulous Villa, Great Vacation!
We stayed in July, with a large group. The house was very spacious, very clean and everything was perfect. The beds were comfortable, and there was a lot of space outside, to play and enjoy the well-kept gardens, with lots of flowers and tall, shady trees. The pool is huge! Beautiful water, and great for the kids. We ate outside al fresco every evening, with great pleasure. Barbara, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, taking time to help us with the smallest of things. Also some great tips for non- touristy, special trips and things to do in the area. Maie managed the house, and we asked her everything! We will definitely go back to this house again - the highlight was the chef Guido, who cooked for us twice. The children loved him, and his cooking was the best Italian food we ever had!

Perfect Family trip
In 2016, we spent our yearly 1 week family trip (4 families) in Villa Maddalena and there was no doubt, that we have to come back in 2017 for the second time. The villa itself with a big living room and the well equipped kitchen as well as the garden with the beautiful pool make this place to a perfect one to be. Kids can play safely in the closed area around the house, the fireplace / oven at the outside was our preferred place to spent the evenings together. Acquiterme with its nice pedestrian zone, restaurants and supermarkets is reachable at walking distance. Maie is taking care of the guests and their needs on site, being available for any question or help needed. Many thanks to her and our host, Barbara, for giving us the opportunity and pleasure to spent some days at Villa Maddalena. See you soon and all the best, Rouven
