This is a unique place to stay. You cannot beat the location right by the sea with the feeling of being over the water and absolutely stunning views. It is also close to a couple of restaurants and right by the bus stop to go further afield. Great communication with the Fraser, Neville and Anita. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for the kind words Ana-Maria. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Most welcome back. All the best Fraser and team
Pros: Best location ever. Fast communication with the owner and always available. Perfect sunset, close to restaurants. Good spot.Cons:Donât use their taxi services (way over priced). The house needs a complete remodeling, external and internal areas. The deck around the pool is gone. The barbecue, toaster are gone, impossible to use. The house deserves better care.

The positive comments are appreciated. A few quick points regarding the âconsâ. The âtaxi serviceâ that is referred to in the review was a commercial taxi that has nothing to do with Annabelleâs, the property. It is not our duty as hosts to books cabs for guests but I encourage house managers to go the extra mile when it comes to taking care of guests, this includes booking taxis. We were especially keen to help given the very late night arrival of the guest who had 3 children. Taxis are expensive in Barbados and typically they charge per passenger, in this case there were six people. Many messages were shared explaining this cost but it seems to no avail.
Regarding the house, it is absolute waterfront, a high saline environment and very high maintenance. however great care is taken to keep it in good order. Each year there is a big overhaul of the house, a full repaint and all items replaced. Small items like toasters and bbqs are easily replaced the main thing is the structure of the house which is absolutely first class and in full working order and as the guest notes, in a works class position.
lovely time with family ,great snorkling right in front of the villa with nice beach . Eateries and bars all walking distance đ

Glad you enjoyed Annabelles, it was a pleasure to have you and thank you for your kind comments. Looking forward to having you back one day!
Property is amazingly right over the water. We loved the open windows and the rushing waves. The property is not fancy but it is clean and the owner - Fraser, Neville - property manager, Olive - the cook, and Kim - cleaner, were all wonderful. We had a great time.
Nice, private retreat. True to its description, it is perched right on the ocean. Steps away from beautiful beaches and some great restaurants. We loved watching the school of blue fish that hang out in the rocks below the cottage, and relaxing in our own private plunge pool. Fraser, the host, and Neville, the house manager, were very responsive all through the process, from booking through check-out. They gave us our privacy, but were always available if we needed anything.

We had a brilliant holiday at the villa. The property is stunning and such a relaxing place to be. It had everything we needed for our stay.
Location is also perfect - we loved being able to get straight into the sea and onto the beach from the villa.
Thereâs some good restaurants and bars within a minute or so walk. Very easy to catch a bus from outside the villa, taxis are also easy to get - and we could walk to Speightstown and Holetown.
Fraser and Neville were great both on the run up and during our stay - very helpful, friendly and made arranging anything so easy.
We would love to stay again if we get the chance to return to Barbados and would absolutely recommend it others.

Annabelles is a sensational property, the entrance is inauspicious but after you pass the gate it was a tropical paradise with mature plants and trees, many sheltered well positioned seating areas and the glorious Caribbean Sea staring right at you. The cabana, plunge pool and terrace deck are wonderful areas to enjoy the view and sunset with a drink. The house has direct beach access to soft golden sand beaches and the snorkelling is awesome. Itâs a traditional timber beach house, not ostentatious, just a local Caribbean feel. The bedrooms are big enough as doubles, but we spent our time outside enjoying the views. A memorable experience and a first-class host and house team who make everything very easy.
We had a great holiday at Annabelleâs and enjoyed the island very much. It is a beautiful gem and we loved experiencing it. We loved watching the sea life immediately surrounding the house every day. Drinking morning coffee while watching the crabs, fish, eels, snails, birds, all was relaxing. I personally loved the open concept of this island cottage and embraced the sound of the sometimes-deafening waves crashing in 24/7, but my boyfriend would have preferred being able to close windows at times. Next vacation will be his choice, I suppose.
We stayed at Annabelles for my birthday. It was the best present I have ever had. The house is true Bajan style with beautiful shutters opening out on to the most stunning views of the ocean. We all felt totally relaxed and Fraser and the house manager Neville were on hand whenever we needed. The location of the house is just perfect ,it is literally right on the sea we spent lots of time snorkelling . A stroll up the beach and you are at Thunder Bay where you can enjoy a rum or two and watch the sunset thatâs if you can drag yourself away from the views from the house . I absolutely loved it and hope to return again

A great open air cottage halfway between Holetown and Speightstown that is immediately on the edge of the sea. Watch the fishes and crabs below. The deck garden with plunge pool is very relaxing, especially when watching the sunset.
Depending on if there is a storm swell, the waves breaking at the base of the house can be deafening.
Special note on Neville, the house keeper. He watched out after us on our stay, and made us feel safe and welcome, even when potentially threatened with Hurricane Tammy. đ

Amazing
What a fabulous villa. What else can I say. Itâs in a perfect position, beautifully maintained. You can literally spend hours just gazing out to sea or watching the fish.
A short walk along the road is a fish market that seems to be open all the time and a little stall next to it where you can get your fruit and salad. While your getting that pop into John Mooreâs for a drink đ„
Wandaâs bar is just a few yards away everyone is very friendly.
I canât recommend this villa too highly
SIMPLY STUNNING!!!
We absolutely loved staying at Annabelles. I took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary - they said it was the best holiday of their life.
Waking up to that view every day was wonderful.
Loved watching the tropical fish on the reef from the deck with a coffee first thing in the morning. Perfectly positioned with so much in walking distance. Swimming was outstanding - Thunder Bay to the left, Gibbes beach to the right. A little further was the fish market and John Mooreâs just a few of our favourite places.
House management was outstanding. Fraser always responded quickly and Neville as always on hand to deal with any enquiry.
Totally recommend and will return to this island paradise.

Me and my partner had a great 2 weeks at Annabelleâs. The location is incredible and the place really comes into its own during the day. The decking area is great to chill and it gets the sun the entire day. Great for enjoying the lovely sunsets too. Itâs definitely exposed to the elements but we knew that from the listing. It took us a day or so to adjust but once we did we never looked back. Communication with Fraser was great and would definitely recommend the place (unless you like your creature comforts in which case itâs probably not for you).

This house took our breath away when we first accessed, literally in the water, Neville the house manager picked us up from the airport (there is a fee 120bbds) but straight to the house and no messing⊠we Spend 10 nights here , very open and breezy with a windy day but Barbados is humid so still quite warm at night but fans on the ceilings sorting that out, the plunge pool was bigger than expected and we spend a lot of time in it and had a ball, the garden patio area is a sun trap also, the house may seem a little out the way but the bar is a 5 mins walk down the beach. And u can see it from the house , we went out of season so a lot of restaurants being refurbished ready for July but we still found some beauties , highly recommend the Jamaican jerk bar next to house, and wanders will be open in July, take a trip to the sea shed also!!! Such a nice restaurant and staff are lovely, thank u Neville and Fraser for ll ur help ( Plse thank the cleaner also ) xx
We have spent a fantastic 2 weeks at Annabelles! The house was everything we expected other reviews mention the noise of the waves you are next to a small reef so donât expect the sound of waves lapping on the sand, saying that we all managed to sleep. We used the buses and taxis to have a break from driving( bus stop right outside Annabelles ) all buses are âŹ3.50 bbd per person no matter where you go and taxis were a reasonable price just be aware the ZR buses and taxis squeeze in as many as they can and they drive fast! We went to loads of beaches and Annabelles is next to the best beach. Thunder Bay has 3 bars sun loungers the sea is calm warm and has no stones. The reef next to the house is amazing for snorkelling and for those who donât snorkel you can watch the fish from the house. Right by the house you have The View, Reggieâs and the waffle house all lovely food and reasonably priced. Neville took us to Massyâs in Hole Town the first time, a large supermarket with a pharmacy and a Waitrose section for anyone wanting familiar foods, once we knew where it was we took the bus which stops outside and took a taxi back there are taxis in the car park as you come out of the shop. We went deep sea fishing, monkey feeding, catamaran and a rum tour all booked in advance on Viator and with local pick ups. The dinner show at The Harbour lights is a great night out good, transport, entertainment, food and drink are Included. Annabelles will not disappoint TY

When we first arrived the care takers family was playing in the very tiny splash pool. Caretaker was very jumpy with blood shot eyes. Gave a very good over view on house. Then left. 3 of the window shutters had no locks. Fan over our bed only had one speed slow. Had to leave shutters open at night. No breeze on that side of the island. So you lay and sweat all night, and thinking on what spiders and snakes might slide in the 5 inch slats. In the one bathroom it had a small light over the sink with 3 bulbs. Only one worked. The ocean sound beating on the house is so deafening you cant even here anyone talk. The idea of just going off the deck steps to play in the ocean, to risky for us. Only a couple hours a day was tide even low enough to think about getting toes wet. After spending one night in the house we did not feel safe. So we had to get a hotel. We tried reaching out to both owner and care taker. No answer. Mid trip we happened to go by the house and seen two cars parked at the house. It was the Caretaker and two other men. Sitting on the deck having a drink. We still have not got any of our money back.

It is always sad when guests do not enjoy their stay. Fortunately this only happened once before in fifteen years of rentals with hundreds of guests.
I will reply to each point of this review:
1. The final payment wasnât made for the booking and when prompted, in 3 words the guest asked to cancel. Despite ongoing requests for clarification it was only the day before arrival the guest confirmed they would be checking in.
2. As with all guests when they ask we conceded to an early check in ( demanded by this guest ) which meant the cleaners were still at the house doing the final touches. The âfamilyâ as the guest labels them, were actually the cleaners preparing the house for his arrival, cleaning the pool which is professionally cleaned once a week and obviously cleaned at each check out. The âtinyâ pool is a plunge pool intended for a small group of people to enjoy the point blank view of the west coast. It is c. 8 foot by 5 foot. Pictures of the pool and its reviews are well
Documented in the description.
3. The guest confirmed he didnât bother to read any reviews or the house description, itâs an authentic carribean house. Open to the elements, no air conditioning or marble in sight and our hundreds of past guests have loved this experience. Itâs perched right on the waterâs edge hence naturally there is sea noise. Whilst the property is built from timber itâs reinforced with steel in the doors and windows has 360 CCTV is heavily fenced, it is elevated c. 10meters from sea level hence very safe.
4. There are 6 steps leading to the sea with direct access from the house. It is quite clear from the pictures that there are steps and rocks and as beautiful as the carribean sea is it can be rough at times. There is sea access within a few meters to the right and left of the steps and never in the past has a guest has any trouble with this access. It is shame that the guest had trouble accessing the sea and was scared of it but he is alone in this experience, and most reviews detail the wonderful snorkeling and sea experience on your doorstep.
5. In terms of insects etc, Annabelleâs is in the carribean, it is a natural
Environment and no one that had done their research would expect anything less. It is also well documented that there are no snakes in Barbados, the house is well equipped with nets and insect spray, the guest has a guided tour by our house manager introducing these features but his companion told us he had hearing problems, this did not preclude him compaining about the sea. We also found it odd when he held a perfectly lucid albeit overly aggressive conversation with the house manager when he barged through the door or the house, unannounced, a few days after leaving.
6. The comment about trying to reach the âcaretaker and ownerâ is incorrect. We work very hard to please guests, are always attentive and go the extra mile. The first we heard from post check was to say heâd left, he omitted to tell us that he left all the doors open on his exit and the next time we heard from him was when he turned up a few days later out of the blue. He barged through the door barking at the house team who were making some repairs, berating them them for having a cool drink and escaping the heat.
7. Regarding maintenance issues, there are approx 60 shutters in the house, itâs a saline environment and there is alwajs a need for repairs. Light bulbs take seconds to replace and this feedback is always noted and generally resolved within a day.
6. All functional elements of the house are kept in good working order with two well
Equipped bathrooms, kitchen, the house was fully rewired 3 years ago, the pool and deck are in great working condition and our house manager doubles as a tradesman, where there is constant ongoing maintenance.
A few further notes on this guest, he was difficult from the start, arrogant, confrontational, unpleasant, clearly didnât want to make the trip in the first place and used any points of baseless leverage to get his money back whilst actually confirming he didnât even read the description.
At Annabelleâs we cherish the hundreds of wonderful guest experiences over two decades and relish in the gratitude and praise that these guests give us. The house is full 300 days a year with blocks of two weeks twice a year set aside for dedciated maintenance. We have a long list of loyal regulars who love the place and treat it as a home away from
Home. We would encourage guests reading this review to check the plethora of other reviews all of which are glorious, this is a one off from a person who didnât bother to take the time to read and understand what Annabelleâs stands for.
My partner, son and I stayed at Annabelleâs and had an absolutely fabulous time! The property is literally on the beach, you walk down the outside steps and you are right in the sea - the snorkelling was amazing! We brought our own masks and snorkels with us (although there were some already in the villa) and we saw every kind of tropical fish you can imagine. O noir first morning we took a walk along the beach and saw tons of turtle eggs and even a baby turtle trying to get back into the sea. We loved the fact that all the shutters to the house opened up completely - the sunsets were jaw droppingly spectacular and at night the sound of the waves crashing against the house was for us incredible - we all slept so well! For water sports and reasonably priced drinks we went to Mullins beach, just a short walk away. My 15 year old son really loved the jet skis and the cushion rides that drag you behind the speed boats. We also did a guided day tour of the island which was really fun and informative, deep sea fishing (sadly we didnât catch anything but it was a spectacular day), the submarine (would not recommend this as it was mega expensive, the water was murky and we couldnât see anything), and twice we went on a 4 hour catamaran trip with Good Times Catamaran company as it was just such a wonderful day each time - the crew were fantastic and the lunch and drinks provided were delicious!. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, right next door was a local Jerk Chicken place that was great - have the goat curry, you wonât regret it. Other really good restaurants that we went to included The Beachshed, Local & Co., La Cabane and Nishi to name but a few. Neville who looks after the property picked us up from the airport and we arranged for him to get some groceries in for us as our flight arrived late in the afternoon. He was always on hand with any queries or needs we had. Fraser who owns the property was fantastic with his communication from start to finish. The villa has a wonderful bookshelf stacked with books and the terrace outside is a perfect place to read them. The plunge pool
was also great for cooling off in the day. We even had a cheeky monkey come visit us a couple of times which thrilled all of us. We really did not want to leave and hope to come back again!

About the host
Hosted by Fraser Brown
Annabelles has been family owned now for over 20 years, and was rebuilt from the ground up in 1999. Being a traditional wooden Barbadian house in the sea it requires regular upkeep. Working and living predominantly in Singapore means we don't get to visit as much as we would like to, so we have put together a team of people to help you while you are there.
We still hold lots of amazing memories from years gone by with friends and family, and decided in 2012 to open up the house to others, and we hope you enjoy Annabelles as much as we have over the years!!
Why they chose this property
The villa is completely open to the sea which is perfect for snorkelling with an enchanting scenery underwater. It also comes with a huge deck with an ocean-facing pool and a neat, well-maintained garden where you can sit back and relax, escape from the afternoon hot sun.
Annabelles sits perched on the famous Caribbean Sea, on the west coast of the island, famous for its tranquil beaches. It has about 900 square foot of living space with flowing inside to outside themes. Just the place to be.
What makes this property unique
You will love the space where every corner of the house opens to unsurpassed views of the Caribbean Sea. The favourite amongst our visitors is the huge veranda at the back of Annabelles which is perfect to escape the afternoon sun. There, sits a huge deck with an ocean-facing pool and neat, well-maintained gardens. You have to experience it yourself to believe it.
