About the host
Hosted by Sam Milford
Lyme Cottage has been in my family for three generations but was in a fairly poor state of repair when I first came down to stay. The simplest option would have been to sell up - but I have never been tempted. Lyme Regis is endlessly gorgeous and I felt that the cottage had the potential to be something very special...
It took around three years of work to get the cottage in shape for guests and I can't wait to hear what you think!
Why they chose this property
Lyme Cottage was built in 1860 and is an important part of Lyme's heritage. The terrace was initially built to house the town's coastguards and later became home to fishermen. Lyme Cottage was Grade 2 listed in the 1970s.
The area is absolutely stunning. Coming down Cobb Road towards the cottage takes your breath away - with a view that is never the same twice.
You don't have to love dinosaurs to be staggered by the local geology... the Jurassic rocks are exposed along the beaches and we're actively encouraged top collect 200 million year old fossils before they are eaten away by the sea!
What makes this property unique
I've really tried to make sure that Lyme Cottage is something special.
In planning for the renovations I used heritage architects to ensure that the charm of the house wasn't lost, whilst bringing it all right up to date so that it's a gorgeous, comfortable place to stay. I've tried to think of everything!
Although this a relatively small coastguard cottage the photos should give you an idea of the sense of space that we've created by not trying to cram too much in, and by leaving you space to fill when you arrive!
