Villa Anna: Original old stone villa close to Fiskardo with private pool & views

Villa Anna has been in the family for many many years. Originally built sometime before 1922, it eventually fell into disrepair. In 2000 we started on the task to fully renovate our home. After 4 long years of rebuilding, rewiring, plumbing and decorating we finally finished our complete rebuild and sympathetic renovation of our old family stone home. We feel that keeping the stone it has kept its old charm and period features and we have mixed this with some modern amenities to make the villa charming yet comfortable for your stay.
Being built from local stone some 100 years ago the villa is very cool during the Summer unlike modern block built villas. Obviously, in addition, we still have air conditioning for your total comfort.
The Villa has 2 good sized double bedrooms which are bright and airy, a good size living room, dining area with large table, and a large kitchen area again with another small table.
The main bathroom has a shower (with enclosure) and toilet. Additionally next to the pool there is an additional shower room with toilet.
There is also internet access via Wifi and the speed last year was on average around 7Mb and 1Mb upload.
The villa is set in quite substantial gardens for the island set out on different levels, surrounding three sides of the villa as we are on the side of the hill.
We have very old trees, a small lawned area, a vegetable garden, olive and almond trees, a terrace from the lounge overlooking the sea and nearby Assos and Assos castle. And of course the large pool area again with magical views over the sea, Assos and across the bay towards Zola.
We have a cleaner, Vera, who comes in twice a week to clean the villa and change all the towels and linen.
The swimming pool is cleaned and checked twice a week.
We also have a gardener that comes in regularly to water the plants and keep the gardens tidy.

A special place to stay

Anna's villa is quite delightful in a beautiful secluded location. Spectacular views from the terrace and swimming pool to the west allowing you to wash the sunset overt he Ionian Sea -what a way to enjoy a gin and tonic! The pool is totally private, clean and very safe. The villa is really well equipped with plenty of utensils to do as much or as little catering as you want and everything works really well. We will almost certainly be going back!

Breathtaking views, lovely clean villa with wonderful character

We had such a lovely holiday which was made all the more special by Villa Anna. Clean, full of character, a great terrace with breathtaking views. A pool which was perfect for a family. Amazing treats on arrival, well stocked (with basics like salt etc.) and easy to use kitchen appliances. The villa is cleaned several times over the week and the pool is looked after. The host is extremely friendly and happy to help with any questions or requests should they arise. We would recommend!

Fantastic Villa

Ditto all the other reviews. Amazing place. Beautiful villa, large pool, terrace for the sunset as well as large seating areas around the pool. Gardener and cleaner come a couple of times - and leave you a bag of fruit and vegetables from the garden! Anna, the owner, is friendly, helpful and very contactable. You do need a car, but the villa is in a good location in the cooler hills, with privacy and peace. Thanks for a fantastic holiday!

A wonderful villa in an awe-inspiring setting.

We have just returned from two glorious weeks in Villa Anna. Having stayed in numerous villas throughout Europe, we can honestly say that none have been more enjoyable than Villa Anna. The villa itself provides comfortable and stylish accommodation which was surprisingly cool, despite the heat. The house is lovingly presented and is full of interesting mementos of Anna's family's history. Anna herself met us and could not have been more warm and welcoming - even providing us with an authentic Greek meal on arrival as well as plentiful Kefalonian produce -some from her own garden. The true glory of this Villa is the spectacular location over-looking nearby Castle of Assos and the Gulf of Myrtos. Sitting with a glass of wine watching the sun go down from one of the terraces will provide memories for many months to come. The pool provided welcome relief when the heat becomes too much and all of the house and environs are well maintained by staff who are are unobtrusive but efficient. Kefalonia is a truly beautiful island, but the Northern peninsula and Fiskardo in particular are especially breath-taking. We found many wonderful, uncrowded beaches and ate out in some excellent restaurants. Anna's Villa provided the perfect base to explore this very special place. Thank-you Anna - see you again very soon!

A peaceful beautiful setting

The house is located in the favourable north of the island short drives (10-15 mins) from beautiful Assos, Fiskardo & several great beaches, within a tranquil small hamlet of just a few private houses, most of which seemed unoccupied. All one can hear from the house are the soft sounds of nature. A true getaway. Anna is a warm and generous host, and opens her quintessential greek home to guests as though they were friends. Clear instructions for reaching the home, straightforward self access, a full meal presented on the table on arrival, just what we needed after a long day of travel and rumbling tummies. While the interior decor is not cutting edge terence conran design, it is a very clean comfortable well maintained & functional home, with all the privacy you could ask for. But the real jewel is revealed on stepping outside to the pool area with its breathtaking view over the sea and limestone cliffs beyond, as well as eating breakfast on the front terrace with further incredible views, shaded from the morning sun. A few points to note: There's a good wifi connection, but unfortunately the signal doesn't reach the pool area. It does however service the terrace & the house from within. Secondly, there is an aircon unit in the master bedroom, but not elsewhere in the house. That said, there were a couple of portable fans, which were effective & we put them in the 2nd bedroom. Whilst the lack if aircon throughout might bother some, the reality is, between time on the terrace, down at the beach, around the pool & meals out & about, we were hardly inside to really notice. Finally, car hire is essential. If you're not wanting to hire a car, I'd suggest staying in Fiskardo.

Schön aber bedenklich

Das Haus hat eine sehr schöne Lage. Jedoch muss an der Innenausstattung und Einrichtung dringend etwas verändert werden. Der Besitzer hat anscheinend alles was er nirgends wo sonst unterbringt in dem Haus abgelegt. Es ist überladen mit sinnlosen Ramsch. Auch Schränke und Schubkästen waren zur Hälfte gefühlt mit Kleidung und Persönlichem des Besitzers. Wir mussten auch sehr viel Reinigungsarbeiten vornehmen und die Küche ordentlich putzen. Wenn am Besteck noch Speisereste des Vorgängers sind, so ist das schon sehr unangenehm. Der Pool wurde regelmäßig gereinigt und zwar von uns selbst. Gesehen haben wir da keine Servicefirma. Unterm Strich sei gesagt, dass das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht passt.

Anna Villa

Der Ausblick ist fantastisch, leider konnten wir die Zeit die wir im Haus verbracht haben nicht so geniesen. Unterhalb des Hauses verläuft die Staatsstrasse ( Autogeräusche) Auch wenn es gut gemeint ist mit Gärtner, Putzfrau und Poolmann, so war es denoch für mich nervig. Im Haus ist alles vorzufinden, was man so braucht. Auch hier ist mir das Haus zu persönlich eingerichtet, es ist vollgestellt und so richtig platz findet man nicht. Was aber wirklich zu betonen ist, ist der Garten, der ist mit viel liebe zum Detail angelegt. Der Aussenpool ist groß und in einer schönen Terasse versehen. Leider habe ich den Aufenthalt nicht so genossen, den ich habe Ruhe gesucht und die Ruhe nicht gefunden.

It was heaven!

This villa was warm, well furnished, and stocked with fruit, homemade pastries and jams from the garden. It had incredible views with a beautiful pool and terraces for eating, sleeping and playing. It had accomodations for dish and clothes washing and drying. Someone would leave fresh vegatables from the garden outside for us. There was a midweek change of sheets and towels There was wonderful communication with Anna and her caretakers. The location is remote yet close enough to many, many beaches. A car is neccesary and there are ferries from the mainland to the island that is another beautiful journey to our stay at Villa Anna. We will dream about our stay until the next time.

Family Holiday

We’ve just spent two glorious weeks at Villa Anna with our two sons (ages 25 and 23). We all needed to switch off and relax and this was the perfect place! The villa is a real, traditional Greek home, kept beautifully by Anna and her team and it was an absolute joy to be there. The views from all around the garden are truly spectacular and I loved my Meryl Streep moment every morning, opening the bedroom shutters to views over the garden, pool and sea towards Mirtos! You do need a car and the second shower room and toilet outside were a definite bonus!

Great Villa

Location is amazing - views are outstanding. Pool and the patio area are a great place to just relax, whilst looking over the bay at Assos and surrounding area. Villa had everything we needed and was really peaceful, only 5mins drive to the nearest taverna and 10mins drive to more, including a supermarket. Definitely recommend Villa Anna. Easy to check-in - Anna sent us instructions and it went super smooth. A great experience overall.

Beautiful villa and brilliant stay, thank you Anna!

We have just returned from a two week stay at Villa Anna and had a really wonderful time there thanks to the amazing hospitality of the owner, Anna B, who could not do enough for us. This was our first holiday with our 15 month old daughter and it totally surpassed expectations. We were welcomed by a huge spread of delicious homemade mousakka, two homemade cakes, cookies, fresh fruit, coffee and homemade jams and a great bottle of local wine, which was perfect after a long day of travelling. The villa itself is a lovely old stone building and has a beautiful position and setting with breathtaking views towards Assos from the pool terrace and the sunny balcony overlooking the substantial gardens. The decor is a traditional Greek style which gives it a really lovely homely feel rather than feeling like a holiday rental. The villa was extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we could possibly need for our stay - fully equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds with good quality linen and fluffy towels changed twice a week by the housekeeper and extra towels for use in and around the amazing pool area. The outside areas were also cleaned regularly and the gardener left us fresh tomatoes and fruit grown in the garden. The owner, Anna, was very responsive if we had any questions or needed anything and provided some great local recommendations of places to visit. The location was absolutely excellent to explore the north of the island - a number of really great beaches all within 15 minutes drive (Alaties, Jerusalem, Emplisi, Foki), some very good tavernas within 5 minutes drive (Hellenic Bistro, Makis and Vegera), and just 15 minutes to the picture perfect fishing village of Fiskardo. This was very convenient for our little one as we were never too far away if we wanted to come back and relax at the villa. Myrtos beach (the famous one!) is also only 15 minutes drive away. Overall, we couldn't be happier that we found Villa Anna and will definitely return. Many thanks to Anna for being such a fantastic host!!

Excellent!

This is our first visit to Kefalonia & Villa Anna and it was fabulous. We felt happy every step of the way - the kefalonian wine, delicious traditional food and desserts at the arrival, pool and the terrace with the fantastic views, room comfort, beautiful garden. A fabulous week

We had a really lovely time in Anna’s home. The villa is delightful, we arrived to find cake, fruit, pie and wine awaiting us which was a lovely surprise! The views from the terrace are spectacular and our two year old daughter became enchanted with the sunsets. The swimming pool is great and we had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday in this beautiful part of Kefalonia..

Very nice Villa

The Villa was very nice and we enjoyed our time a lot. The view and sunset is amazing. It is very quiet around the house.. almost no cars, no neighbor and just nature. Sometimes the cute cats were coming to say "Hello". Anna was a really nice host and took care about everything. Even when we had to handle some issues with luggage etc. she was very flexible and supportive. :-) We really appreciated it and would come back.

Amazing views

The place is beautiful. When we arrived we found in the fridge, wine and moussaka. The table was dressed , the cakes were fabulous, the figues in the garden excellent. It’s not common to be received like that with the table dressed and the food prepared. The gardens , the terrace with the pool , the views....etc. A very nice place

Villa Anna

We booked Villa Anna for two weeks in June this year, having never visited Cephalonia before. Anna kept in touch with us to provide information before our trip and it was very easy to find with her directions. Villa Anna is a traditional Greek house and home - it is well-equipped and clean. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The views from the pool area and the front veranda are truly breathtaking - we spend many happy peaceful moments gazing at the views and enjoying the absolute quiet and calm of nature. It is very easy to get from the villa to the north and east of the island - and lots of lovely beaches and tavernas all around. We visited the south of the island only once - to see Xi beach - but we were not that impressed and so spent most of our time in the area around the villa which is really the most beautiful part of the island. The house is comfortable and easily has enough space - we were only two adults but a family of four or five would be equally comfortable. The cleaner comes every 3 days, the same with the pool cleaners and the gardeners come and take care of the lovely gardens. So everything is well looked after and maintained. We had a lovely visit - we loved Anna's house, the location, the easy and stunning drives to places like Myrtos, Assos, Sami and Antisamos. Our favourite beaches were the tiny and perfect quiet beaches of Jerusalem and Alaties, both within about 10 minutes of Anna's house - where the waters are so clear and beautiful they hardly seem real. Assos is a very pretty village/town nearby with a fantastic walk up to the castle ruins - it is a long walk, but simply wonderful on a fantastic path under the cool of the pines and the eucalyptus trees and break taking views all the way - well worth it. Lots of little places there to have lunch and also to swim. All in all, we were very happy and pleased to have chosen Villa Anna for our holiday. We have visited several Greek Islands and would definitely count Cephalonia amongst our favourites. We will definitely return.

Amazing place to stay. Perched up on the hill side with overlooking Asos castle and the bay with the other side of the island a backdrop what more could you ask for. A delightful enormous garden and grounds and so private and quiet you will soon fall asleep and relax in the tranquillity, peacefulness and privacy of Villa Anna. So many local beaches which are quiet and within easy reach along with numerous tavernas and restaurants, some walk-able and others in nearby Asos or Fiskardo. Villa Anna itself is a soulful place, as it is actually Anna's home and has been in the family for many years. Plenty of places to sit out and enjoy the sun at different times of the day or indeed keep out of the sun, depending on what you prefer. And the people. So so friendly. Nothing it too much trouble for anyone. If I wasn't already committed to a move to Sicily I think I'd move here....

Idyllic Villa, Generous Host, Perfect Location

We've stayed in many quality villas on many Greek Islands, and Anna and her lovely Villa epitomise everything we love about Greece and the Greek people. Firstly Anna's amazing generosity and hospitality, not just in providing a delicious meal on our arrival (with a candle lit table already laid out - such a thoughtful touch) and so many wonderful provisions , including an excellent bottle of the local wine; but also in the many ways she offered to help with our travel schedule and accommodated our requirements. Then the Villa itself, traditionally and tastefully decorated, and a proper home with every utensil and convenience you could want for an enjoyable stay, set in a magnificent country garden with flowers, fruit trees, vines and vegetables; and with a very large pool area offering total privacy and magical views. And finally the perfectly peaceful location, set high on the hills on the west coast, overlooking Assos and its castle, and with outstanding sunset views, yet only a minute from the main coast road, 3-4 minutes from "Vegera" Taverna which serves excellent food and has music on Tuesday and Saturday, and an easy 20 minutes drive to Kefalonia's prettiest and best resort Fiskardo, where "Elli's" Restaurant offers high quality dining on the waters edge An outstanding experience, and very highly recommended.

A beautifully maintained property, set in a lush garden. Amazing views of the sea and coast.

Anna was an attentive owner, who was careful to ensure we had a great holiday. On arriving, we were presented with delicious homemade creatons: a chocolate orange cake; a huge walnut fruit cake; traditional greek cheese dish; biscuits; honey and jams; and a full fruit bowl. During our stay, we had free use of the produce growing in the garden, which included figs, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc. The pool was cleaned and checked each week of our stay; the gardens watered by George every day; bed sheets and towels changed, beds made and property cleaned, three times over our 14 day stay. Stunning sunset views from the pool and balcony. The property is in a great location for Assos, Fiscardo and Agia Efimia and we ate at Rosie's, Taverna Veggera and fantastic new restaurant B&B in Agia Efimia(serving great pizza, pasta,cakes,ice cream). A restful and stress free stay. Brilliant.

Idyllic situation, lovely villa and wonderful welcome

Villa Anna has a magical situation, quiet and peaceful with fantastic views. The villa is a home from home, everything you could need. Lovely gardens and pool. Although sadly we did not meet the owner Anna, her cousin George looked after us very well, and Anna had left us a welcome the like of which we have never experienced before. Delicious moussaka, honey cake, fruit etc. awaited us, and an invitation to help ourselves to whatever we found in the house and garden, including delicious home made jams. We had a wonderful holiday, and would love to return to Villa Anna. This part of Kefalonia is very beautiful, but what remains in the memory is the welcome, and the feeling of being a guest in Anna's home, not just a number on a Travel company's books.

Welcomed by amazing spread of homemade treats, cakes, pie made by Anna plus wine to wash it all down with was a beginning of a wonderful stay at Anna’s Villa. The villa itself had a lovely homely feel. It was clean, sheets and towels changed twice a week, lovely good size pool also cleaned twice a week and views to die for! Sun-downers whilst watching the sunset and almost no light pollution so star gazing was incredible. Anna, although not based on the island, was very helpful and a fantastic hostess, excellent communication, could not do enough to make everything perfect for us, I left the villa feeling like I have gained a friend. The location is fantastic, based on the North of the island it was only short drive to Assos, Fiskardo, many good local shops, tavernas/restaurants and beaches. Perfect quiet spot to relax. Car is a must as lots to explore. Thank you, Anna, I am hoping to come back soon! Iwona xx

A stunning place to stay, and so much more than just a villa

We searched for a long time to find somewhere in Kefalonia, and luckily we eventually found Villa Anna. As other reveiwers have mentioned, it is a beautiful villa set on a huge plot with extensive gardens and orchards, and fantastic views out over the bay and the picturesque town of Assos. Kothreas itself is a small village near Fiscardo, and Villa Anna is in an idyllic setting. The pictures on the website are great, but being here is much more special. The house and gardens are extremely well maintained, and Anna encourages everyone to help themselves to the figs, grapes and other produce from the gardens and orchards. Ann also very kindly made a host of food to welcome us - a delicious moussaka, traditional cheese pie, cake and savoury biscuits, and also asked that we help ourselves to the homemade honey and jams in the fridge. Everyone we met was extremely kind, generous and helpful. The house itself is a beautiful home, not another bland holiday rental; very welcoming and very well equipped. As soon as you arrive you feel at home, and can relax into your vacation. We spent many hours in the pool, or chilling on the terrace looking out over the bay, as well as travelling around the island to see some other beautfiul ports like Fiscardo, Assos and Agia Efemia. There are many great tavernas on the island, and Anna has been very helpful in suggesting places to go and to eat. Tassia in Fiscardo is excellent, and one of our favourite tavernas, Vegera, is only 2 minutes drive away - fantastic food, live entertainment and a warm welcome. It is not often you find reviews which are all '5 star' - Villa Anna is a superb place to stay, a beautiful home from home and the welcome you get from Anna herself and Stayros and Vera will make your holiday that bit more special. It is a real gem and I would recommend it to anyone.

Hi, I am Anna. I was born in the village where our villa is located, Kothreas (Kefalonia). Our family moved to Athens however where I grew up. I studied law at Athens University and made a career in the Ministry of Finance (a director of Import and Export Trade)

Why they chose this property

Villa Anna is my family home which my parents originally owned. We totally renovated the property in 2000 to bring it up to date with everything you would expect of a modern property. The large pool is relatively new.
This property is 12 min from Fiskardo (by car), you can also find perfect beaches near the villa like "Myrtos beach" "emblisi beach" etc.

What makes this property unique

There are many unique points to staying at Villa Anna. The fact it is an old stone building of character is quite unusual on the island. It is located in a very quiet and tranquil position with spectacular views of the Ionian sea and some breathtaking sunsets. There are gardens all around the house at different levels with lawn, flowers beds, olive trees, almond trees and other and old trees. The grounds in total are nearly 4 acres so you are not overlooked and the pool and gardens are very private.
